					</table><p>Mercom India is set to host its second event in the &#8216;<a href="https://www.mercomindia.com/event/c-and-i-clean-energy-meet-2024-lucknow" target="_blank" rel="noopener">C&amp;I Clean Energy Meet 2024</a>&#8216; series in Uttar Pradesh&#8217;s capital city, Lucknow, on March 1, 2024.</p>
<p>The Lucknow event titled &#8216;Green Energy Business Conclave&#8217; will be co-hosted by the Uttar Pradesh New and Renewable Energy Development Agency (<a href="https://www.upneda.in/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">UPNEDA</a>) and the Indian Industries Association (<a href="https://www.iiaonline.in/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">IIA</a>).</p>
<p>Lucknow boasts the second-largest concentration of businesses in the state, emerging as a prominent hub for industry and logistics in Northern India. It is home to information technology, chemicals, machine tools, furniture, agro-based, and textile industries.</p>
<p>The state government aims to transition the region&#8217;s industries to solar, providing a cost-effective and environmentally friendly option.</p>
<p>Uttar Pradesh, the largest state in India, is undergoing a shift from primarily relying on agriculture to emerging as a flourishing industrial center. The state&#8217;s recent efforts in the industrial sector have resulted in a surge in the demand for power.</p>
<p>Due to its attractive incentive package, Uttar Pradesh has become increasingly appealing to solar open access developers and consumers, garnering heightened interest in the region.</p>
<p>The event aims to bring together large power consumers in the commercial &amp; industry segment and clean energy solution providers to discuss the transition process and options.</p>
<p>Registration for the event begins at 9:45 am, followed by the inaugural session. The first panel discussion, titled <strong>&#8220;Clean Energy-Harnessing the Green Route to Reducing Electricity Bills,&#8221;</strong> will be led by Dr. Sunit Tyagi, MD of <a href="https://insolare.com/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Insolare</a>, Bharath Singh, Director – Sales Marketing and Operations (India &amp; MENA) at <a href="https://www.deyeinverter.com/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Deye Inverters</a>, and Shah Masood Jafar, Regional Sales Head – North, Rooftops <a href="https://www.tatapowerrenewables.com/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Tata Power Renewable Energy</a>.</p>
<p>The second panel discussion will explore <strong>&#8220;Clean Power Purchase- Switching to Renewable Energy through Open Access and Maximizing ROI,&#8221;</strong> featuring Deepika Mathur from <a href="https://www.ampyrenergy.com/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Ampyr Energy</a>, Arvind Datt Semwal from <a href="https://www.adanisolar.com/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Adani Solar</a>, and Prabhajit Kumar Sarkar, Founder and CEO of <a href="https://amperaenergy.in/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Ampera Energy</a>.</p>
<p>Following the two discussions, Deye Inverter will present a case study to discuss the market realities and present state policy dynamics to the audience.</p>
<p>This will be followed by a session on <strong>&#8220;Attractive Financing Options – Easy and Affordable Green Loans&#8221;</strong> with financial experts, including Vikas Agarwal, Co-founder and CBO of <a href="https://creditfair.in/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Credit Fair</a>, and Avinash Dwivedi, Deputy Zonal Head Lucknow at <a href="https://www.idbibank.in/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">IDBI Bank</a>.</p>
<p>The event will conclude with a session on bioenergy and biocoal conducted by IIA.</p>
<p>Commercial and industrial consumers seeking clean energy solutions at a lower cost, equipment manufacturers, lenders, facility and plant managers, c-level executives, engineers, procurement managers, and decision-makers are expected to attend.</p>
<p>The event will facilitate discussions about the cost benefits of solar, challenges, opportunities, and solutions, providing insights into the evolving energy market and aiding a seamless transition towards clean energy amidst technological and financial challenges.</p>
<p>The first event in the C&amp;I Clean Energy Meet 2024 was held in Bengaluru in January.</p>

					</table><p><a href="https://cms.mercomindia.com/mercoms-second-series-begins-in-bengaluru/" target="_blank" rel="noopener"><strong>Mercom India held the first event of the “C&amp;I Clean Energy Meet 2023” series in Bengaluru.</strong></a> The event was hosted in partnership with the Federation of Karnataka Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FKCCI). FKCCI is an apex organization for industry, trade, and service sectors in Karnataka and has been in operation for over a century. The Clean Energy Meet series, hosted across major cities in India, focuses on C&amp;I businesses transitioning to renewables for their energy needs. These events provide an unique single platform for consumers to come face to face with renewable energy stakeholders to understand and implement the benefits of the renewable transition.</p>
<p><a href="https://www.mercomindia.com/government-ntpc-invest-30-net-worth-green-arm" target="_blank" rel="noopener"><strong>The government has allowed NTPC to invest in its subsidiary, NTPC Green Energy (NGEL), beyond the limit allowed for a ‘maharatna’ central public sector enterprise (CPSE). </strong></a> The extant guidelines prescribe a ceiling of 30% of a CPSE’s net worth for making such investments. The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, also exempted NGEL’s investment in NTPC Renewable Energy and its other joint ventures and subsidiaries, subject to a ceiling of 15% of its net worth beyond the monetary ceiling of ₹50 billion (~$605 million) to ₹75 billion (~$1 billion).</p>
<p><a href="https://cms.mercomindia.com/brookfield-aquire-kkrs-stake-x-elio/" target="_blank" rel="noopener"><strong>Global investment firm Kohlberg Kravis Roberts (KKR) has agreed to sell 50% of its stake in renewable developer X-ELIO to its joint venture partner Brookfield Renewable</strong></a>. Financial details were not disclosed. Since KKR’s initial investment in 2015, followed by Brookfield’s acquisition of a 50% stake in 2019, X-ELIO has benefitted from over $2 billion of investment. X-ELIO has constructed or developed 3 GW of renewable energy projects globally.</p>
<p><strong><a href="https://www.mercomindia.com/maharashtra-tariffs-8-7-mw-solar-power-under-kusum" target="_blank" rel="noopener">The Maharashtra Electricity Regulatory Commission (MERC) has adopted tariffs of ₹3.28 ($0.039)/kWh, ₹3.29 ($0.039)/kWh, and ₹3.30 (~$0.040)/kWh for the procurement of 8.7 MW of solar power on a long-term basis.</a></strong> The Commission noted that the solar power procured from the projects would be eligible to fulfill the solar renewable purchase obligation (RPO) of the Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company (MSEDCL).</p>
<p><a href="https://cms.mercomindia.com/iit-mandi-solar-cell-metal-oxide-layers/" target="_blank" rel="noopener"><strong>Researchers at the Indian Institute of Technology Mandi (IIT Mandi) have claimed a breakthrough in producing metal oxide layers for use in advanced architecture silicon solar cells using a cost-effective</strong></a> method. This innovative process could pave the way for the commercial production of advanced solar cells with improved efficiency and lower costs, contributing to the widespread adoption of renewable energy sources.</p>
<p><a href="https://www.mercomindia.com/indian-oil-om-8-mw-solar-project-ahmedabad" target="_blank" rel="noopener"><strong>Indian Oil Corporation (IOCL) has invited bids for the operation and maintenance (O&amp;M) of an existing 8 MW solar power project at the LPG bottling plant at Sanand in Ahmedabad for five years.</strong></a> The last date to submit the bids is April 15, 2023. Bids will be opened on April 17. The project’s estimated cost is ₹40.9 million (~$494,921). Bidders need not submit any earnest money deposit to participate in bidding. The successful bidder must submit an amount equivalent to 3% of the total contract value as a security deposit.</p>
<p><a href="https://www.mercomindia.com/sterling-and-wilson-bos-package-solar" target="_blank" rel="noopener"><strong>Sterling and Wilson Renewable Energy, the solar engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) arm of Shapoorji Pallonji Group</strong></a>, won NTPC’s tender for the balance of system (BOS) package to develop 1.2 GW (4*300 MW) of solar power projects at Khavda renewable park in Gujarat. The aggregate capacity of the project is approximately 1.5 GW. The total bid value, including the operation and maintenance for 3 years, is ₹21 billion (~$254 million).</p>
<p><a href="https://www.mercomindia.com/jsw-greenko-win-karnatakas-1-gw-pumped-storage-projects" target="_blank" rel="noopener"><strong>JSW Neo Energy (JSW Energy) and Greenko KA 01 IREP (Greenko) have won the Power Company of Karnataka’s (PCKL) auction to supply 1 GW of energy for 8 hours daily from pumped hydro storage</strong></a> projects providing continuous 5-hour discharge. JSW Neo Energy won 300 MW by quoting ₹14.75 million (~$178,661), and Greenko bagged 700 MW by quoting ₹14.76 million (~$178,782) under the bucket-filling method. Greenko had quoted for 960 MW. The starting price for the e-reverse auction was set as ₹14.88 million (~$180,235).</p>
<p><a href="https://cms.mercomindia.com/india-voices-concern-over-europes-carbon-tariff-measure-at-wto/" target="_blank" rel="noopener"><strong>India has expressed concern about the carbon border measures proposed by the European Union (EU) at a recent meeting of the World Trade Organization’s (WTO) Committee on Trade and Environment</strong></a>. Presenting a paper on the increasing use of environmental measures as protectionist non-tariff barriers, India said it was concerned about the proposed Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM), which seeks to impose a carbon tariff on carbon-intensive products imported into Europe.</p>
<p><a href="https://cms.mercomindia.com/constant-climate-centric-funding-can-limit-global-temperature-under-1-5c/" target="_blank" rel="noopener"><strong>Financial support from developed economies to developing nations which is a critical enabler of climate action has been inadequate, said scientists in the latest Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC)</strong></a> report highlighting that the promised mobilization of $100 billion under the Paris Climate Accord hasn’t materialized for the developing countries. India welcomed the much-needed financial support to provide developing countries with the required technology to help cut greenhouse gas emissions. The report emphasized that India has consistently held the position that development is our first defense against climate change.</p>
<p><a href="https://cms.mercomindia.com/ntpcs-subsidiary-projects-for-indianoil-refineries/" target="_blank" rel="noopener"><strong>NTPC Limited’s wholly owned subsidiary, NGEL, has entered into a joint venture agreement with Indian Oil Corporation (IOCL) to develop renewable energy projects</strong></a> that can meet round-the-clock power requirements to meet the electricity demands of IOCL refineries. The signing of the joint venture agreement between NTPC Limited and IOCL is expected to facilitate the two companies in achieving the Clean Energy Targets set by the Government of India in their respective core businesses, an official statement said.</p>

<p>H J Ramesh inaugurated the event, Director Technical at <a href="https://bescom.karnataka.gov.in/english" target="_blank" rel="noopener">BESCOM</a>, in the presence of B V Gopal Reddy, President of FKCCI; M G Balakrishna, Vice-President at FKCCI; Ramesh Shivanna, Chairman of Energy Committee at FKCCI; and Priyadarshini Sanjay, Managing Director at Mercom India.</p>
<p>The event was attended by enthusiastic C&amp;I business executives keen on understanding how to transition to clean energy and the steps involved in making the investments.</p>
<p>In her welcome address, Priyadarshini Sanjay highlighted that India pledged to install a non-fossil-fuel target of 500 GW by 2030 to combat climate change at the United Nations Climate Summit. India has installed a renewable energy capacity, including large hydro, of about 167 GW. However,  much more remains to be done.</p>
<p>The C&amp;I sector could help India achieve its target if it adopts renewable energy quickly. Switching to renewables would result in cost savings for the industry, besides ensuring the security and sustainability of businesses.</p>
<p>Priya added how the Clean Energy Meet series, since the last year, has attempted to underline the advantage of on-site renewable power generation and ways to procure over 1 MW of power through innovative long-term plans at competitive prices. The events have also brought in experts from the financial community to provide insights into innovative solutions.</p>
<p>Shivanna said, “The commercial and industrial segment together consumes 49% of electricity generated in India, but currently, less than 5% of the total power procured by this C&amp;I segment comes from sustainable or renewable energy.”</p>
<p>He added that the Indian MSME sector is the backbone of the national economy, with over 64 million businesses providing employment to over 12 billion people and contributing to a third of the GDP.</p>
<p>Shivanna said most manufacturing units are power-hungry, with the MSME sector consuming energy equivalent to about 50 million tons of oil annually.</p>
<p>As a major energy consumer, it becomes imperative to take measures to reduce emissions and use clean energy. This can be done by adopting sustainable practices, and eco-friendly technologies, which help achieve a sustainable environment.</p>
<p>The current policies permit even small consumers with 100 kW capacity onwards to purchase green energy open access. Many industries have a good surface area where rooftop solar can also be installed, Shivanna added.</p>
<p>He also pointed out that the importance for MSME entrepreneurs to integrate sustainability principles into their business strategy is not only to create a green environment but also to gain an edge over global competition.</p>
<p>Reddy said, “Karnataka is a blessed state with natural resources and holds the potential of 20 GW of solar energy annually.”</p>
<p>“The state is working towards achieving an ambitious plan to provide 24-hour uninterrupted power supply to all the households. Karnataka’s net metering will enable individual households to install solar panels on their rooftops and sell the surplus power generated to BESCOM. This is well received among stakeholders.”</p>
<p>H J Ramesh, Director Technical at BESCOM, said, “BESCOM is currently implementing utility-scale solar and rooftop solar projects. It has also developed a dedicated portal for facilitating installations and also a dedicated helpline.”</p>
<p>“BESCOM is also a nodal agency for creating infrastructure for EV charging stations across Karnataka. The EV Mitra app was developed to provide information about the EV charging stations,” Ramesh added.</p>
<p>The inaugural session was followed by panel discussions with industry stakeholders on various lucrative ways of procuring clean energy and innovative financing options available.</p>
<p>Bengaluru’s event was the seventh Clean Energy Meet since Mercom began hosting them last year. Mercom India plans to host more industry-focused C&amp;I <a href="https://mercomindia.com/event/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">events</a> in the major cities of Mumbai, Pune, Chennai, and Coimbatore over the year.</p>

					</table><p>Companies in the commercial and Industrial (C&amp;I) segment have significantly turned to renewable energy to meet their energy needs and save money on electricity costs. In many states currently, the cost of solar energy is less than the retail electricity tariffs.</p>
<p>The C&amp;I segment has driven the demand for renewables over the past few quarters, mainly rooftop solar and open access installations, which are the most viable options.</p>
<p>Since rooftop solar is easy to install and does not involve transmission or distribution losses, it has become increasingly popular among C&amp;I consumers. Open access has also been on the rise because of its ability to provide consumers with offsite power from projects within and outside their state.</p>
<p>India <a href="https://mercomindia.com/india-rooftop-solar-1h-2022/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">installed</a> over 845 MW of rooftop solar capacity in the first half of 2022. About 35% of installations were in the industrial segment, and 39% in the commercial segment.</p>
<p>Mercom is hosting a <a href="https://mercomindia.com/event/ci-clean-energy-meet-2022-pune/agenda/" target="_blank" rel="noopener"><strong>C&amp;I Clean Energy Meet</strong></a><strong> in Pune on August 26, 2022,</strong> bringing together solar sector stakeholders and C&amp;I entities on the same platform to discuss the benefits of renewable energy and practical solutions to help lower power costs.</p>
<p>The Meet will include multiple sessions with industry experts to discuss the benefits, real-world installations, and processes of rooftop solar and open access. Experts will share their views on what consumers should look for while opting for rooftop and open access. They will also shed light on costs, choice of developers, financing options, and return on investment of the projects.</p>
<p>Mercom India recently held the C&amp;I Clean Energy Meet 2022 in Bengaluru.
