Power equipment manufacturer Transformers and Rectifiers (TARIL) has announced an investment of ₹12.5 billion (~$131.45 million) to develop three greenfield projects to manufacture transformer components at its Chiyada complex in Gujarat.

The facilities will manufacture bushings, pressboard and insulation materials, and continuously transposed conductors (CTC) used in high-voltage transformers.

The investment aims to reduce the company’s dependence on imported transformer components and improve equipment availability for India’s transmission and distribution network.

The construction of the facilities began in December 2025. The company expects commercial operations to begin in the first quarter of the financial year 2028.

TARIL expects the facilities to generate approximately ₹20 billion (~$210.32 million) in annual revenue once fully operational.

The bushing facility will manufacture oil-impregnated paper, resin-impregnated paper, and resin-impregnated fiber bushings rated up to 800 kV for extra-high-voltage transformers.

The other facilities will manufacture pressboard and insulation materials and CTC.

The company expects in-house manufacturing to improve control over quality, lead times, and operational efficiency.

The facilities will operate under a wholly owned subsidiary of TARIL, giving the company control over manufacturing quality, technology, and procurement.

TARIL manufactures power, distribution, and specialty transformers ranging from 5 MVA to 1,000 MVA and up to the 1,200 kV class.

In July, TARIL secured an order worth over ₹10 billion (~$105.83 million) from POWERGRID to manufacture and supply transformers of various ratings and undertake associated works. The company is scheduled to execute the order over 30 months.

In December 2025, TARIL secured an order worth ₹533.3 million (~$5.93 million) from POWERGRID to repair, erect, test, and commission a 397 MVA high-voltage direct current converter transformer.

India’s renewable energy expansion and transmission infrastructure investments are driving demand for transformers and grid equipment. The industry faces manufacturing capacity constraints, supply chain challenges, and longer delivery timelines. Annual transformer demand could reach 150 GVA by 2030, underscoring the need to expand domestic capacity and investment.
