<p><a href="http://www.serenticaglobal.com/" target="_blank" rel="noopener"><strong>Serentica Renewables</strong></a><strong> will source 1,500 MWh of energy storage capacity through Greenko Group&#8217;s pumped storage projects in India.</strong> Serentica will leverage Greenko&#8217;s energy storage capacity from its upcoming off-stream closed-loop pumped storage projects in Andhra Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh. The arrangement will enable Serentica to deliver round-the-clock, firm, and dispatchable renewable energy to its various industrial clients. Serentica&#8217;s medium-term goal is to install 5,000 MW of carbon-free generation capacity coupled with different storage technologies, supply over 16 billion units of clean energy annually, and displace 20 million tons of CO2 emissions.</p>
<p><strong>India&#8217;s National Grid Operator Power System Operation Corporation (</strong><a href="https://posoco.in/en/" target="_blank" rel="noopener"><strong>POSOCO</strong></a><strong>) has been renamed Grid Controller of India Limited (Grid-India). The name was changed to reflect the </strong>functions performed by the grid managers in the country at national and regional levels. Grid-India operates the national load despatch center and five regional load despatch centers in the country.</p>
<p><strong>The Emerging Market Climate Action Fund </strong><a href="https://www.eib.org/en/press/all/2022-482-cop27-eib-global-and-allianzgi-announce-usd100-million-for-renewable-energy-projects" target="_blank" rel="noopener"><strong>announced</strong></a><strong> a $25 million investment in Alcazar Energy Partners II to develop, construct and operate renewable energy projects</strong> in the Middle East, North Africa, Eastern Europe, and Central Asia. This commitment is in parallel to European Investment Bank (EIB) Global, the dedicated arm outside the EU of the EIB Group, which provides $75 million to the fund. Alcazar Energy Partners II has a target size of $500 million and will invest in onshore wind and solar. The fund is expected to contribute to installing over 2 GW of new clean energy capacity, saving 3.2 million tons of greenhouse gas emissions annually.</p>
<p><strong>Fortescue Future Industries and Windlab will </strong><a href="https://www.fmgl.com.au/in-the-news/media-releases/2022/11/14/game-changing-north-queenland-super-hub-to-power-green-hydrogen-with-wind-solar" target="_blank" rel="noopener"><strong>partner</strong></a><strong> on a 10 GW of wind and solar power farm and underpin the industrial-scale production of green hydrogen from purpose-built facilities</strong> within Queensland. The first stage of the proposed project includes the 800 MW Prairie Wind Farm and the 1 GW Wongalee project. Subject to approvals, construction on the first stage is expected to commence in 2025, with the projects anticipated to begin to produce power by 2027. Energy generated from the project stands to produce green hydrogen and feed renewable power to the grid.</p>
<p><strong>Eiffel Investment Group and the European Investment Fund (EIF) have </strong><a href="https://ec.europa.eu/commission/presscorner/detail/en/IP_22_6746" target="_blank" rel="noopener"><strong>launched</strong></a><strong> Eiffel Transition Infrastructure, an innovative fund designed to provide equity bridge financing </strong>for European renewable energy infrastructure assets.  The fund targets up to €500 million (~$514 million) and expects to facilitate the installation of up to 7 GW of renewable electricity capacity. It will help renewable energy developers and independent power producers accelerate their development pipelines, delivering more clean energy in the EU in line with its RePowerEU plan. The EIF is sponsoring the initiative committing €75 million (~$77.2 million) to the new fund.</p>

<p><strong>NTPC </strong><a href="https://www.bseindia.com/xml-data/corpfiling/AttachLive/d2c972d6-0f4f-46c0-a262-5e585e1a0179.pdf" target="_blank" rel="noopener"><strong>announced</strong></a><strong> that the last 20 MW capacity out of the 100 MW Ramagundam floating solar project had been commissioned.</strong> With this, the standalone installed and commercial capacity of NTPC has grown to 54.77 GW. The NTPC group’s installed and commercial capacity is now 69.13 GW.</p>
<p><strong>ReNew Power, in partnership with the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) and Self-Employed Women’s Association of India (SEWA), </strong><a href="https://renewpower.in/wp-content/uploads/2022/06/FINAL_ReNew-SEWA-UNEP-Salt-pan-project-launch-Press-Release_30062022.pdf" target="_blank" rel="noopener"><strong>launched</strong></a><strong> a transformative initiative named ‘Project Surya’</strong> to train low-income women salt pan workers to work in the renewable industry. Under the program, women salt pan workers, who work in the physically challenging and extreme temperatures of the remote Rann of Kutch marshes in Gujarat, will be trained as solar panel and solar pump technicians. This unique and inclusive project will address multiple sustainable development goals under one umbrella, including no poverty, gender equality, affordable and clean energy, decent work, economic growth, and climate action.</p>
<p><strong>Impact Clean Power Technology has </strong><a href="https://icpt.pl/en/impact-will-build-gigafactoryx-it-will-become-one-of-the-largest-producers-of-battery-systems-for-transportation-in-europe/" target="_blank" rel="noopener"><strong>started</strong></a><strong> the construction of a modern battery systems factory – GigafactoryX – for the public transport, railroad sector, and stationary energy storage for both the energy sector and individual users</strong>. The investment will multiply the company’s production capacity up to 5 GWh per year. The GigafactoryX project assumes the construction of a giant battery factory for electric vehicles. The start of production has been planned for 2024 and will guarantee the security of the supply of battery systems for the world’s largest brands. The new production lines will be highly automated, affecting not only production efficiency and the quality of produced batteries but also reducing carbon dioxide emissions.</p>
<p><strong>Dutch Minister for Climate and Energy Rob Jetten </strong><a href="https://www.gasunie.nl/en/news/gasunie-starts-construction-of-national-hydrogen-network-in-the-netherlands" target="_blank" rel="noopener">announced</a><strong> plans for the construction of a national transport network for hydrogen. Gasunie will develop the hydrogen network in the Netherlands in the coming years, after which it will assume the role of </strong>a t<strong>ransmission system operator. </strong>Gasunie will also play an important role in the storage and import of hydrogen. Due to the expected growth in offshore hydrogen production in the North Sea, the minister will investigate whether Gasunie can also fulfill the role of grid operator at sea.</p>
<p><strong>Voltalia, an international player in renewable energies, has </strong><a href="https://www.voltalia.com/news-releases/news-release-details/albania-voltalia-launches-construction-karavasta-project-largest" target="_blank" rel="noopener">launched</a><strong> the construction of the Karavasta site, a 140 MW photovoltaic project. </strong>The 140 MW project was awarded to Voltalia by the Albanian Council of Ministers in 2020, following the competitive bidding process launched by the Ministry of Infrastructure and Energy with the support of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development. According to the terms of the tender, Karavasta will sell 50% of the electricity through a 15-year sales contract to the Albanian public operator, while the remaining will be sold through long-term contracts to private operators. The project is expected to be commissioned in the second half of 2023.</p>

<p><a href="https://www.lg.com/global" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer"><strong>LG Electronics</strong></a><strong> </strong><a href="http://www.lgnewsroom.com/2020/12/lg-and-magna-enter-joint-venture-agreement-to-expand-in-powertrain-electrification-market/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer"><strong>announced</strong></a><strong> its plans to set up a joint venture (JV) with Canada-based automotive supplier </strong><a href="https://www.magna.com/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer"><strong>Magna International</strong></a><strong> to manufacture electric motors, inverters, and on-board chargers.</strong> It also plans to manufacture related electronic drive systems to support the growing global shift toward vehicle electrification for specific automakers. The JV will be tentatively called ‘LG Magna e-Powertrain’ and aims to capture the market for these components, which is expected to grow significantly before 2030.</p>
<p><strong>Government-owned Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (</strong><a href="https://www.bhel.com/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer"><strong>BHEL</strong></a><strong>) said it has </strong><a href="https://www.bseindia.com/xml-data/corpfiling/AttachLive/4b69a3d8-0196-4090-812f-c0752eadf712.pdf" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer"><strong>secured</strong></a><strong> electro-mechanical (E&amp;M) work orders worth ₹32 billion (~$437.4 million)</strong>. The orders are for a hydroelectric project in Andhra Pradesh, and E&amp;M works for pump-motor sets for lift irrigation programs in Telangana. The E&amp;M order in Andhra Pradesh is for manufacturing and supplying Kaplan hydro turbines – the country’s largest unit-rated turbines. BHEL received these work orders from engineering, procurement, and construction contractors of the projects &#8211; Megha Engineering and Infrastructure.</p>
<p><a href="https://www.filatex.com/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer"><strong>Filatex India Limited</strong></a><strong>, a polyester filament yarn manufacturer, </strong><a href="https://www.bseindia.com/xml-data/corpfiling/AttachLive/97f69a89-b446-4e1d-a4fe-3f41969f1327.pdf" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer"><strong>announced</strong></a><strong> that it completed and commenced commercial operation of its captive rooftop solar power projects</strong> at Dahej and Dadra on December 30, 2020. The Dahej project was rated at 1 MW in capacity, while the one in Dadra was rated at 400 kW.</p>
<p><strong>The Ministry of Finance of the People’s Republic of China (</strong><a href="http://www.mof.gov.cn/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer"><strong>MOFPRC</strong></a><strong>) </strong><a href="http://jjs.mof.gov.cn/zhengcefagui/202012/t20201231_3638812.htm" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer"><strong>issued</strong></a><strong> a notice aimed at improving the financial subsidy policy for the promotion and application of new energy vehicles</strong>. It said that the current framework for purchase subsidies would remain unchanged in 2021 to help create a stable policy environment. It also proposed to improve the methods and standards for new energy vehicle testing.  It plans to instill a sense of responsibility in manufacturers to encourage them to voluntarily carry out defect investigations and recalls. The ministry said the notice would come into effect starting January 1, 2021.</p>

<p><strong>Canadian Solar Inc.</strong><strong> announced that it has decided to list its business on Chinese Capital Markets. </strong>According to its <a href="https://www.prnewswire.com/news-releases/canadian-solar-announces-strategic-decision-to-extend-access-to-chinas-capital-markets-301100045.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">press statement</a>, the company said it would pursue a listing of its Module and System Solutions (MSS) business either on the Shanghai Stock Exchange&#8217;s Science and Technology Innovation Board (STAR market) or the Shenzhen Stock Exchange&#8217;s ChiNext market. Based on the precedents in the China IPO market, the listing process is estimated to take 18-24 months.</p>
<p><strong>Fujikura</strong><strong>, a Japan-based electric equipment manufacturing company, <a href="https://www.businesswire.com/news/home/20200727005840/en/Fujikura-Releases-Thin-Dye-Sensitized-Solar-Cell-Module" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">announced</a> that it had broadened its product lineup of Thin Dye-Sensitized Solar Cell (DSSC) module panel.</strong> The increase in the module range is likely to lead to easier designing and installation of the panels into IoT (Internet of Things) devices. In line with the increase in IoT device usages and diversification of their sizes, the new product lineup recognizes the growth in customer needs for solar cells of various shapes and sizes.</p>
<p><strong>Schneider Electric Solar has announced the launch of <a href="https://solar.schneider-electric.com/product/insight/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Insight</a>, its new energy management platform for residential and commercial users</strong> as a solution to the COVID-19 crisis accelerating the needs of digitalization in the renewable energy industry. It is available through their local, cloud, and mobile interfaces. Insight is a part of Schneider Electric&#8217;s residential and commercial solar &amp; storage ecosystem, providing intuitive mobile and web-browser based interfaces for consumers and installers.</p>
<p><strong><a href="https://freyrenergy.com/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Freyr Energy</a></strong><strong>, a Hyderabad-based rooftop solar company, has announced the launch of SunPro+ mobile application </strong>for an easy transition to solar for homeowners and business developers. The company said that the consumers could use the mobile application to learn about solar, order a system, track the installation process, and monitor system performance independently. The company added that the artificial intelligence-enabled technology in the SunPro+ application would enable the users to get information according to their needs, and the addition of the chat feature will be used to address queries instantly.</p>
<p><strong>Maxeon Solar Technologies, the planned spin-off from SunPower Corp, has </strong><strong><a href="https://www.global.sunpower.com/solar-panel-products/sunpower-performance-solar-panels" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">launched</a> </strong><strong>its new line of bifacial SunPower® Performance 5 panels</strong>, the fifth-generation performance solar panels designed specifically for large-scale power plant applications. Among the first products to utilize bifacial mono-PERC solar cells made on large format eight-inch G12 wafers, the new Performance 5 panels offer industry-leading efficiency of over 21 percent along with enhanced shade tolerance with power ratings of up to 625 watts.</p>

Weekly News Wrap-Up: Canadian Solar Soon on Chinese Capital Markets, Freyr Energy Launches App

<p>Here are some noteworthy company announcements from the week:<strong> </strong></p>
<p><strong>Qatar General Electricity and Water Corporation (KAHRAMAA) has </strong><a href="https://www.km.qa/MediaCenter/pages/NewsDetails.aspx?ItemID=357" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer"><strong>announced</strong></a><strong> the successful financial closure for the 800 MW solar project Siraj-1.</strong> According to its company, Japan Bank for International Cooperation and Mizuho Corporate Bank provided a senior loan to finance the project. The company also announced to set the levelized electricity cost (LEC) at 5.281 Dirham (~$1.44)/kWh. The project will be installed in the Al Kharsaah area, west of Doha. In the first phase, 350 MW will be connected to the grid in the second quarter of 2021. The commercial commissioning for the total capacity is expected in the first quarter of 2022.</p>
<p><strong>Hexagon Peak, Foxconn Vietnam, and Inpos </strong><a href="https://www.businesswire.com/news/home/20200722006022/en" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer"><strong>teamed up</strong></a><strong> to build and operate the largest rooftop solar project in Vietnam</strong>. Hexagon Peak, the project development arm of Hexagon Holdings Singapore, announced that it had signed a long-term power purchase agreement with The New Wing Interconnect Technology, a fully-owned subsidiary of Foxconn Group. Inops will build the project with a nominal power output of 6 MW at New Wing’s manufacturing facility near Hanoi, Vietnam.  The company said that the project will generate sufficient electricity to cover 25% of its manufacturing operations, and would help avoid 113,520 tons of carbon emission.</p>
<p><strong>Jinko Solar, a Chinese solar cell and module manufacturer, </strong><strong>announced</strong><strong> that its large-area- N-type mono-crystalline silicon solar cell reached up to its maximum solar efficiency of 24.79%.</strong> The company said that the product had set the world record for large-sized contact-passivated solar cells. JinkoSolar said that the solar cell was fabricated on a high-quality CZ mono-Si substrate, with a practical size of 267.72cm2 and included passivated contact technologies, advanced diffusion, and surface passivation.  The Institute for Solar Energy Research in Hamelin (IFSH), Germany, confirmed this result independently, according to the company’s press statement. The record-breaking mono-crystalline silicon solar cell will be gradually applied for production.</p>
<p><strong>Greenko, a renewable developer, announced that it has teamed up with ONYX InSight</strong>, global analytics and engineering firm, to modernize 500 wind turbines in India. England-Based ONYX InSight will help upgrade the data-quality of wind turbine drivetrain to empower the adoption of the latest predictive analytics.</p>

According to the company, this new offering allows users to manage their energy throughout the home or opt for even higher efficiency and choose pre-selected loads for backing up. The 9.8 kWh LG RESU10H battery uses LG Chem’s lithium-ion battery technology to boost efficiency while maintaining energy density. With this new offering, the companies believe that the homeowners can optimize their battery energy with a 90.8% combined system efficiency and 200% DC oversizing.</p>
