French energy company ENGIE has commissioned two solar projects with a cumulative capacity of 450 MW in Rajasthan and Gujarat.

The two projects include the 250 MW Khaba solar project in Barmer, Rajasthan, which was developed through Khaba Renewable Energy, a wholly owned subsidiary of ENGIE.

The project is expected to generate approximately 650 GWh of electricity annually. ENGIE India secured approximately ₹9.82 billion (~$102.29 million) in financing for the project in July 2026.

The other project is the 200 MW Khavda solar project is located within the Khavda Renewable Energy Park in the Rann of Kutch, Gujarat.

Developed through Enren II Energy, the project will supply electricity to Gujarat Urja Vikas Nigam under a 25-year power purchase agreement.

The Khavda project is expected to generate approximately 350 GWh of electricity annually. ENGIE India achieved financial closure for its Khavda solar power project last May.

The commissioning of the two projects follows ENGIE’s recent expansion into battery energy storage and hybrid renewable energy projects in India.

ENGIE India has a renewable energy capacity of 2.3 GW. Of this, 1.1 GW is operational across seven states and 1.25 GW is under construction. The company plans to develop 7 GW of renewable energy capacity in India by 2030. The company has eight solar projects in Rajasthan with a total capacity of 825 MW and four solar and wind projects in Gujarat with a cumulative capacity of 830 GW.

In November 2025, the company secured its first battery energy storage project in India, with a capacity of 280 MW/560 MWh. Engie secured this capacity at a tariff of ₹187,000 (~$2,109.66)/MW/month

Earlier in January this year, ENGIE secured a hybrid renewable energy project comprising 200 MW of solar capacity and a 100 MW/600 MWh battery energy storage system. Engie Energy India secured this capacity at a quoted tariff of ₹3.12 (~$0.0346)/kWh.

In September, ENGIE Zielona Energia, a subsidiary of ENGIE that produces renewable energy in Poland, acquired a special purpose vehicle developing a 438 MW/876 MWh battery energy storage project.
