					</table><p><a href="https://indianrailways.gov.in/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Indian Railways</a> has initiated the process of building a hydrogen production and refueling station in Jind, Haryana, to supply the country’s first-ever hydrogen train under the Hydrogen for Heritage initiative.</p>
<p>The pilot project will involve retrofitting the Diesel Electric Multiple Unit rake on the Sonipat-Jind section from a diesel to a hydrogen-powered train.</p>
<p>Under the initiative, Indian Railways plans to operate 35 hydrogen trains, the first of which will operate on the 89-kilometer stretch between Jind and Sonipat, with an expected flag-off date in 2024.</p>
<p>The project is expected to save Indian Railways ₹23 million (~$275,829) per year.</p>
<p>The tender for the project was first <a href="https://www.mercomindia.com/daily-news-wrap-up-indian-railways-hydrogen-fuel" target="_blank" rel="noopener">issued</a> in October 2021.</p>
<p><a href="https://medha.com/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Medha Servo Drives</a>, a rail system integrator awarded the work for the pilot project by Indian Railways, has contracted <a href="https://www.greenh.in/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">GreenH Electrolysis</a> to provide the engineering, procurement, and construction services for the hydrogen production and refueling station.</p>
<p>The equipment for the project will be supplied from GreenH’s newly constructed Proton exchange membrane (PEM) electrolyzer manufacturing plant in the Jhajjar district of Haryana.</p>
<p>The station is expected to implement a comprehensive system to produce hydrogen and refuel the trains on a daily basis. The refueling infrastructure will integrate 3,000 kg hydrogen storage, hydrogen compressors, and two hydrogen dispensers with pre-cooler integration, allowing for quick refueling of the trains.</p>
<p>The company will operate round the clock with an expected capacity of 420 kg of hydrogen per day to achieve the project&#8217;s first milestone at 1 MW electrolyzer capacity.</p>
<p>GreenH would extend operation and maintenance services for the turnkey project under a long-term service agreement.</p>

<p>In September 2022, Medha Servo Drives <a href="https://www.mercomindia.com/ballard-supply-fuel-cell-indias-hydrogen-trains" target="_blank" rel="noopener">awarded</a> the hydrogen fuel cell module order to Ballard Power Systems to develop two retrofitted diesel-electric commuter trains with eight integrated units of 100 kW FCmoveTM-HD+.</p>

<p><a href="https://www.mercomindia.com/suzlon-net-profit-1-billion-q1-fy24" target="_blank" rel="noopener"><strong>Wind turbine manufacturer Suzlon Energy posted a net profit of ₹1.01 billion (~$12.3 million) during the first quarter (Q1) of the financial year (FY) 2024, a decrease of 96% year-on-year (YoY).</strong></a> The drop in net profit can be attributed to the exceptionally high net profit recorded in Q1 23, primarily due to exceptional gains from converting financial instruments as part of the company’s refinancing efforts.</p>
<p><strong><a href="https://www.mercomindia.com/distributed-solar-projects-chhattisgarh-exempted-transmission-charges" target="_blank" rel="noopener">The Chhattisgarh State Electricity Regulatory Commission has issued amendments to the Grid-Interactive Distributed Renewable Energy Sources Regulations, 2019.</a></strong> As per the amendments, the first 500 MW of open access solar projects will be exempted from transmission charges, cross-subsidy surcharge, wheeling charges, and state load despatch center charges for the entire life of the project. The amendment would apply to the first 500 MW capacity that achieved or would achieve commercial operation by December 27, 2023.</p>
<p><a href="https://www.mercomindia.com/rajasthan-bids-75-mw-solar-projects-under-kusum" target="_blank" rel="noopener"><strong>The Jodhpur Vidyut Vitran Nigam has invited bids to install and commission 29 grid-connected solar projects with a total capacity of 74.8 MW under Component C of the Pradhan</strong></a> Mantri Kisan Urja Suraksha evam Utthaan Mahabhiyan program for feeder level solarisation. The projects will be located in Sri Ganganagar, Kesrisungpura, Lalgarh, Sri Ganganagar (Rural), and Sadulsahar subdivisions of Sri Ganganagr Circle in Jodhpur and developed under the renewable energy service company model.</p>

<p>This facility will be located at the Reliance MET Industrial Park in Jhajjar District, Haryana, with its first phase currently underway, and operations are expected to commence in October this year.</p>
<p>The joint venture brings together the technical expertise of H2B2 Electrolysis Technologies, a global player in the hydrogen sector through electrolysis, and the project development and engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) experience of GR Group, an infrastructure company in India.</p>
<p>The technology for the plant is provided by the Spanish parent company, H2B2 Electrolysis Technologies. The plant&#8217;s initial capacity will be 100 MW, and GreenH plans to scale it up to 500 MW in two years rapidly.</p>
<p>The long-term vision includes expanding the capacity further to reach 1 GW in Phase 2.</p>
<p>Ashwin Agarwal, Director of GR Promoter Group, said GreenH&#8217;s facility will help meet the rising demand for electrolyzers, especially in the commercial and industrial segments.</p>
<p>The green hydrogen market in India is poised for exponential growth, with hydrogen demand expected to increase fourfold by 2050, primarily driven by the steel industry and heavy-duty transportation.</p>
<p>As India currently spends over $160 billion annually on energy imports, a figure that could double in the next 15 years, the shift towards green hydrogen presents an opportunity to reduce dependence on fossil fuels and bolster energy security, the company said.</p>
<p>In January this year, the Union Cabinet <a href="https://www.mercomindia.com/cabinet-approves-%E2%82%B9197-billion-hydrogen-mission" target="_blank" rel="noopener">approved</a> the National Green Hydrogen Mission to facilitate demand creation, production, utilization, and export of green hydrogen with an initial outlay of ₹197.44 billion (~$2.3 billion).</p>
<p>The National Hydrogen Mission aims to accelerate green hydrogen production in India and align the nation&#8217;s energy transition efforts with global best practices in technology, policy, and regulation.</p>
<p>Recently, the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy <a href="https://www.mercomindia.com/ministry-175-billion-program-green-hydrogen" target="_blank" rel="noopener">released</a> a framework document outlining incentive programs for the manufacturing of electrolyzers and the production of green hydrogen, with a financial outlay of ₹174.9 billion (~$2.1 billion).</p>
