Renewable energy solutions provider Sunsure Energy has commissioned an 82.5 MW group captive solar project in Erach, Jhansi, in Uttar Pradesh.
The project will supply solar power to Haldiram’s, APL Apollo, and to one of the country’s largest data centers.
The captive power project is expected to generate 128 million units of power annually.
The project is Sunsure’s 10th open access project in Uttar Pradesh.
With the completion of the captive project in Jhansi, Sunsure has an operational capacity of 260 MW open access projects in Uttar Pradesh across Agra, Banda, Mahoba, Jhansi, and Chitrakoot.
According to Shashank Sharma, Founder, Chairman & CEO at Sunsure Energy, progressive banking provisions and waivers on electricity duty, transmission, and wheeling charges in the state have encouraged independent power to invest in large-scale projects and storage-backed solutions.
The company has 600 MW of operational assets and 7.5 GW of projects under various stages of development in Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Rajasthan, and Karnataka. It has set a target of achieving 10 GW capacity by 2030. It said it is on track to achieve 500 MW by the end of the financial year 2026.
In July 2025, Sunsure Energy won NTPC Vidyut Vyapar Nigam’s auction to set up an interstate transmission system-connected 250 MW/1,000 MWh standalone battery energy storage systems under the build-own-operate model. It won 125 MW/500 MWh at a tariff of ₹6.64 (~$0.0768)/kWh.
In April 2025, Nagpur-headquartered Sunflag Iron and Steel announced its decision to procure power from an 11 MW solar project being set up by Sunsure Energy’s special purpose vehicle Sunsure Solarpark Thirty Seven in Dhule, Maharashtra.
The company secured ₹4.16 billion (~$48.07 million) in long-term debt financing from Aseem Infrastructure Finance to develop a 150 MW open access solar park in Solapur, Maharashtra. The project’s first phase is operational, supplying clean energy to industrial customers. The project is expected to be fully commissioned by March 2025.
