Sonnedix, an independent renewable energy power producer, has secured $1.3 billion through a refinancing transaction covering renewable energy assets in Chile.

The transaction refinances 1 GW of operational solar and wind capacity across the country and provides financing for 117 MW of battery energy storage projects under construction.

According to the company, the financing will also support the development of its renewable energy pipeline in Chile, including energy storage and hybrid projects.

BNP Paribas, Bank of America, Crédit Agricole Corporate and Investment Bank, and Santander acted as joint lead arrangers and joint bookrunners. BBVA, Goldman Sachs, and MUFG participated as mandated lead arrangers.

Crédit Agricole Corporate and Investment Bank also served as hedging coordinator. BNP Paribas acted as financial adviser, while Centrus served as hedging adviser.

Axel Thiemann, CEO of Sonnedix, said, “This record refinancing demonstrates the ongoing confidence our partners have in our ability to execute at scale, and in our commitment to driving sustainable, long-term solutions that support the energy transition. This milestone is a testament to the hard work and exceptional commitment of our Chilean teams, our partners, and our global network.”

White & Case provided New York law counsel to Sonnedix, while Morales y Besa advised the company on Chilean law. A&O Shearman provided New York law counsel to the lenders, while Guerrero Olivos advised them on Chilean law.

Aurora Chile served as market adviser, and Enertis acted as technical adviser. EY provided tax and financial model services, while Marsh served as insurance adviser.

According to Sonnedix, this revenue structure provides visibility into the portfolio’s future cash flows and supports further development of its renewable energy projects in the country.

In July, the company announced the acquisition of a 260 MW battery storage portfolio in Tuscania, Italy, from Sphera Energy. The portfolio includes two units, one with 160 MW of power capacity and a four-hour duration, and the other with 100 MW and the same duration.

Announced large-scale solar project funding increased by 71% in the first half of 2026 compared with the funding raised in the same period in 2025, according to Mercom’s recently released 1H and Q2 2026 Solar Funding and M&A report.
