Hyderabad-based integrated solar cell and module manufacturer Premier Energies and RCT India, part of Germany’s RCT Group, have entered into a binding term sheet to form a joint venture to establish a 12 GWh battery energy storage manufacturing facility in Telangana.

Premier Energies’ subsidiary, Premier Battery Technologies, will develop the proposed facility. The first phase will have a manufacturing capacity of 6 GWh.

The companies plan to develop the facility as an export-oriented manufacturing platform serving international markets. Premier Energies will contribute its manufacturing capabilities, while RCT will bring its engineering expertise, international supply chain network, and energy-sector experience.

Premier Energies said the joint venture marks its expansion beyond solar cell and module manufacturing into battery storage.

Chiranjeev Saluja, Managing Director at Premier Energies, said energy storage would help support the power system as India adds renewable energy generation capacity. He added that the company plans to manufacture battery storage products for domestic and international markets through the proposed facility.

The proposed manufacturing facility is expected to address battery storage requirements from renewable power developers, commercial and industrial consumers, and utility-scale projects in India and overseas.

Premier Energies operates advanced manufacturing facilities across Telangana and Andhra Pradesh. The company is expanding its manufacturing footprint across the clean energy value chain, including investments in ingot and wafer manufacturing, battery energy storage systems, inverters, transformers, and aluminum components.

As of this April, Premier Energies has commissioned a 1.4 GW TOPCon module manufacturing line and has set a target to achieve 10 GW of integrated capacity across ingots, wafers, cells, and modules by the financial year (FY) 2028.

In July, Premier Energies inaugurated a 5.6 GW zero-busbar solar module manufacturing facility in Seetharampur, Telangana.

Earlier in January, Premier Energies announced the commissioning of a 400 MW Mono PERC cell manufacturing facility at Maheshwaram, Telangana, through its wholly owned subsidiary, Premier Energies Photovoltaic.
