REC Power Development and Consultancy (RECPDCL) has invited proposals to set up an intrastate transmission system to establish a 400 kV substation and associated transmission lines in Karnataka’s Belagavi district on a build, own, operate basis.

Bids must be submitted by July 4, 2025. Bids will be opened on the same date.

Selected bidders must furnish a performance guarantee of ₹409.8 million (~$4.8 million).

The scope of work entails the design, engineering, construction, erection, testing, and commissioning of the project. It also includes supplying the project’s equipment and material and providing operation and maintenance services.

It also involves site survey, detailed project report formulation, finance arrangement, project management, obtaining necessary consents, clearances, and permits, and providing the project land.

Most of the 220kV substations of Belagavi and Bagalkot districts are fed from the 2X500MVA, 400/ 220kV Narendra substation. A new 400/220kV substation has been proposed to relieve the 400/220kV Narendra substation and its surrounding lines and to ensure reliable evacuation of the existing and proposed wind, solar, and cogeneration energy.

Successful bidders must establish a 2X500 MVA, 400/220/33 kV air-insulated substation at Mekhali village. They must also obtain a transmission license from the state regulatory commission.

Bidders must fulfill any of the following technical requirements:

  • They must have developed projects in the infrastructure sector with a minimum aggregate capital expenditure of ₹8.19 billion (~$97.46 million) in the last five years. The capital expenditure of each project must be at least ₹1.6 billion (~$19,041,441)
  • They must have constructed projects in the infrastructure sector, receiving minimum aggregate payments of ₹8.19 billion (~$97.6 million). Each project must have received a minimum payment of ₹1.6 billion (~$19 million)

Bidders must have a net worth of at least ₹3.2 billion (~$38.1 million).

Recently, RECPDCL invited bids to develop an interstate transmission system to evacuate power from pumped storage projects in Sonbhadra district, Uttar Pradesh, under a build, own, operate, and transfer model.
