MENA Weekly Round-Up: Yellow Door, ACWA Bid for Bahrain 100 MW Solar Project

Yellow Door Energy Projects and ACWA Power, submitted bids for Bahrain’s Electricity and Water Authority’s (EWA) 100 MW Bilaj Al Jazayer solar independent power producer (IPP) project. Yellow Door Energy quoted BHD11.398 million (~$30.31 million), while ACWA Power submitted BHD15.440 million (~$41.08 million). Once commissioned, the Bilaj Al Jazayer Solar IPP is expected to support Bahrain’s clean energy transition and contribute to the country’s goal of sourcing 20% of its electricity generation from renewable energy by 2035.
ACWA Maroc received official approval to expand its Khalladi Wind Farm near Tangier, Morocco, by 40 MW, increasing the project’s total installed capacity from 120 MW to 160 MW. Located at Djebel Sendouq, around 50 km from Tangier, the existing wind farm has been operational since 2018 with 40 Vestas V90-3.0 MW turbines. The facility generates approximately 397 GWh of power annually.
China’s SANY Group signed a memorandum of understanding with the Egyptian Electricity Transmission Company and the New and Renewable Energy Authority to establish Egypt’s first wind turbine manufacturing plant and develop a 2,000 MW wind power project in the North Gulf of Suez region. The manufacturing facility, to be built in the Suez Canal Economic Zone, will produce wind turbines and components for domestic projects while exporting surplus production to regional markets.
Sterling and Wilson Renewable Energy, in a 50:50 joint venture with Hassan Allam Construction, secured a letter of award for the West Minya solar-storage project in Egypt, valued at approximately $560 million. Located in the Minya Governorate, the project will comprise a 1,000 MW solar project integrated with a 600 MWh battery energy storage system. The joint venture will undertake the complete engineering, procurement, and construction of the project, including the installation of solar facilities, battery storage systems, grid interconnection infrastructure, transmission facilities, and all associated balance-of-project works.
