The Appellate Tribunal for Electricity (APTEL) set aside the Delhi Electricity Regulatory Commission’s (DERC) decision to appoint the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) to audit Delhi’s power distribution companies (DISCOMs), holding that the move violated statutory provisions under the CAG Act. The Tribunal also rejected DERC’s request to delay the liquidation of regulatory assets and directed that recovery begin within three weeks.
India’s average solar irradiance ranges from 3.5–5.5 kWh/m²/day across the country, with nearly every state offering significant potential for solar energy generation. However, several states with high irradiance and ample wasteland have failed to tap into the opportunity. Last September, the National Institute of Solar Energy estimated a total feasible ground-mounted solar energy potential of a staggering 3,343 GWp, building on a 2014 figure of 748.98 GWp.
Mumbai-headquartered renewable energy solutions provider Clean Max Enviro Energy Solutions (CleanMax) will supply wind-solar hybrid energy to Shell India’s assets across Gujarat and Karnataka from its 30 MW of projects. CleanMax is developing a 16.83 MW hybrid renewable energy project in Gujarat under a group captive model, comprising 6.93 MW of solar and 9.9 MW of wind capacity.
The Competition Commission of India approved the proposed merger of the renewable energy business of Gujarat-based solar components manufacturer Vishakha Renewables (VRPL) with its solar glass manufacturing division, Vishakha Glass. The proposed restructuring entails the transfer and vesting of VRPL’s pipes and moldings divisions to Progressive Pipes on a slump sale basis.
MAHAGENCO Renewable Energy invited bids to prepare a pre-feasibility study, technical bid specification, review and approval of detailed design engineering, and project management for a green hydrogen and ammonia project at Uran in Maharashtra’s Raigad district. Bids must be submitted by May 19, 2026. Bids will be opened on May 21, 2026.
Independent power producer Juniper Green Energy began commissioning India’s first firm and dispatchable renewable energy project, which integrates 259 MW of solar, 280 MW of wind, and 200 MWh of battery storage across Rajasthan and Gujarat. The solar component became operational in March, and the battery storage system in April this year, with the project being commissioned ahead of schedule to meet rising summer electricity demand in Haryana.
Perovskite-based solar panel developer Tandem PV opened a 40 MW commercial demonstration factory in Fremont, California, marking a step toward scaling up next-generation perovskite-silicon solar manufacturing in the U.S. The 65,000-square-foot facility is designed to transition the company’s technology from laboratory-scale development to commercial production for utility-scale applications.
Germany added a total of 3.5 GW of solar capacity during the first quarter of 2026, according to data from the Federal Network Agency. The country’s cumulative solar capacity now stands at 121 GW. The country also added 1.05 GW of onshore wind, with approximately 30,343 turbines deployed; 468 MW of offshore wind, with 1,714 units; and 39 MW of biomass, with 22,022 installations.
