The solar industry is rapidly evolving, with larger solar modules that generate over 600 W+ becoming the new standard. Project designs are being upgraded to harness the increased power of these larger modules, which necessitates the upgradation of all the associated equipment, especially inverters.

It becomes imperative for inverters with higher input capacities to work efficiently with these high-power modules. As a result, there is a growing demand for powerful string inverters with capacities ranging from 250 kW to 350 kW. These high-capacity inverters are essential for controlling costs across various aspects of solar projects, including the balance of system components, labor, and overall project expenses.

Another advantage of using these high-capacity inverters is that they reduce the need for maintenance. This, in turn, is expected to lead to lower operational costs over the life of solar projects.

Mercom’s webinar ‘Cutting Edge PV Inverters Optimizing Generation from Advanced Technology Modules’ will shed light on the technical and financial implications for solar PV projects on September 26, 2023, at 11 AM.

The webinar will bring together experts to understand the technological challenges and new solutions in the market. They will discuss ways to maximize power generation from high-power modules with the latest inverter technology.

Goutam Samanta, Head of PV Technology at Juniper Green Energy; Sunil Panigrahi, Country Manager- India at Hopewind; Anuj Mathur, Regional Manager- North at Hopewind, and Shiv Mishra, Head – OE & C at Sterling & Wilson, Ex CGM(RE) NTPC will be among the panelists.

Priya Sanjay, Managing Director, Mercom India, will moderate the session.

India boasts an impressive pipeline of utility-scale solar projects exceeding 67 GW and an additional 62 GW of projects that are tendered and awaiting auction, according to Mercom India Research’s Q2 2023 India Solar Market Update.

In this dynamic landscape, the harmonious pairing of inverters and modules will go a long way in realizing several critical objectives within the solar industry. It can lead to a tangible reduction in the levelized cost of electricity, elevate power and energy density, trim capital expenditure, and ultimately elevate the overall efficiency of solar endeavors.

Crucially, selecting the most suitable inverters hinges on various considerations. These include prioritizing safety, optimizing efficiency, ensuring durability, and establishing compatibility. These considerations converge under the goal of minimizing mismatch and clipping losses, driving the industry toward greater efficiency and cost-effectiveness.
