Utex New Energy, a Pagariya Group company, has signed an agreement with its parent company to establish a 20 GWh battery energy storage system assembly plant in Nagpur, Maharashtra, with ENcore Systems as the technology partner.

The project will be set up in two phases. The first phase will include an assembly capacity of 5.5 GWh and will be expanded to 20 GWh within the next one to two years.

The facility will feature a fully automated production line equipped with robots supplied by Germany-based KUKA. The production line will be designed to handle battery cells with capacities of up to 628 Ah.

Utex said it plans to implement quality checks throughout the manufacturing process, covering incoming materials, inspections during production, and final product testing.

The plant’s production operations will be managed through a Manufacturing Execution System (MES) integrated with systems, applications, and products systems. The MES system will provide real-time information on production output, quality, traceability, and operational performance.

The partnership with ENcore Systems will focus on establishing an automated manufacturing facility with systems for quality control, production monitoring, and planned capacity expansion.

India’s energy storage pipeline crossed 110 GWh across the under-development and pre-construction stages, according to data from the Mercom India Renewable Energy Project Tracker.

In the first (IH) of 2026, India added 8.2 GWh of battery energy storage, nearly 84 times the 98.4 MWh installed during the same period last year, according to Mercom India Research’s Q2 and 1H 2026 India’s Energy Storage Landscape Report.

Cumulative installed battery energy storage capacity reached 9.3 GWh at the end of June 2026, indicating a sharp acceleration in deployments as utilities increasingly turn to storage for grid balancing, peak demand management, and renewable energy integration.

Rajasthan led cumulative installed battery storage capacity with a 36% share, followed by Gujarat at 20% and Maharashtra at 5%. Together, the three states accounted for more than 60% of the country’s installed capacity.
