The Tamil Nadu Green Energy Corporation (TNGECL) has invited bids to set up a 15 MW solar power project with 15 MW/45 MWh battery energy storage system (BESS) in Karur, Tamil Nadu.

Bids must be submitted by December 26, 2025. Bids will be opened on the next day.

Bidders must submit an earnest money deposit of ₹10 million (~$112,738).

The selected bidder must furnish a performance bank guarantee of ₹50 million (~$563,743) within 30 days of the issuance of the letter of award.

TNGECL will provide 53.72 acres of land in K. Pitchampatti village, Karur, on a lease of ₹1 (~$0.011)/site/year. The designated interconnection point is the 110/11 kV Velliyanai substation, located 13 kilometers from the proposed project site.

A railway line crosses between the existing 110/11 kV Velliyanai substation and the proposed project site. Hence, necessary approval must be obtained from the Southern Railway to lay the 33 kV underground cable for the railway crossing.

The developer must maintain an annual capacity utilization factor of 21% for the solar power project.

The BESS should maintain an AC-to-AC round-trip efficiency of 85% for the system on a monthly basis. The BESS should be operational for a single 3-hour discharge cycle.

The scheduled commissioning of the full project capacity will be 12 months from the effective date of the power purchase agreement.

The developer will also be responsible for the project’s operations and maintenance for 25 years.

The net worth of the bidders for the financial year ended on the last day of the previous financial year, or at least seven days before the bid submission deadline, should be at least ₹270 million (~$3.04 million).

Bidders should have a minimum annual turnover of ₹300 million (~$3.38 million) for the previous three financial years.

Tamil Nadu has announced it will reduce reliance on high-cost private power by developing 20,000 MW of solar and 10,000 MW of BESS over the next decade, beginning with a first phase of 4,000 MW of solar and 2,000 MW of BESS, subject to feasibility.

Recently, TNGECL invited bids to set up 40 MW grid-connected rooftop solar power projects on government buildings under the renewable service company model.
