Q ENERGY, a solar, energy storage, and wind project developer, <a href="https://cms.mercomindia.com/q-energy-sells-33-mw-solar-project-in-england/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">announced</a> the sale of a 33 MW Whinfield Solar Project near Darlington in Northeast England to AlphaReal, an assets investment manager. The project, currently under construction, will have around 60,000 ground-mounted solar modules. Once operational, Q Energy expects the Whinfield project to generate clean electricity enough to power over 8,700 households in the UK.
BayWa r.e., a renewable energy service provider, developer, and distributor, <a href="https://cms.mercomindia.com/baywa-r-e-acquires-46-mw-solar-project-in-romania/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">announced</a> the acquisition of the 46 MW White Gate solar project in Constanța county in Southeastern Romania. Romanian-based law firm Filip &amp; Company advised the company. Financial details about the transaction were not disclosed.
Recurrent Energy, a solar and energy storage project developer and a wholly owned subsidiary of Canadian Solar, announced that it <a href="https://cms.mercomindia.com/recurrent-energy-secures-103-million-tax-credit-transfer-agreement-for-solar-project/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">signed</a> a $103 million tax credit facilitation agreement with Bank of America for the 160 MW North Fork Solar Project. The already operational project is located southwest of Oklahoma City. NordLB and Rabobank provided financing for the project. CRC-IB and Latham &amp; Watkins advised Recurrent Energy on the tax credit transfer transaction.

Located near Beardstown, Illinois, and spanning about 1,700 acres, the construction of the solar project began in June 2023 and is anticipated to be completed by the end of 2024. Up to 330,000 solar modules are expected to be utilized in the project. Once operational, the project will supply electricity to the Midcontinent Independent System Operator power grid.
Renewable energy solutions provider KPI Green Energy has <a href="https://www.mercomindia.com/kpi-green-secures-mw-solar-project" target="_blank" rel="noopener">secured</a> a credit facility of ₹6.86 billion (~$82.1 million) to develop a 200 MW solar photovoltaic power project in Khavda, Kutch District. The credit facility comes after the company recently raised ₹3 billion (~$36.08 million) through qualified institutions placement.

<a href="https://savionenergy.com/about-us/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Savion</a>, a utility-scale solar and energy storage project developer, announced the completion of the 150 MW Cass County Solar Project sale to Ameren Missouri, an electric power utility company.
Located near Beardstown, Illinois, and spanning about 1,700 acres, the construction of the solar project began in June 2023 and is anticipated to be completed by the end of 2024. Up to 330,000 solar modules are expected to be utilized in the project.
Once operational, the project will supply electricity to the Midcontinent Independent System Operator (MISO) power grid. Savion expects to generate enough clean energy to power approximately 27,500 households annually.
Savion obtained permit approval for the project in 2020. Ameren Missouri received approval for the transaction from the Missouri Public Service Commission in June 2024.
“We extend congratulations and gratitude to our partner, Ameren Missouri, for the dedication to making Cass County Solar Project a reality,” said Nick Lincon, president of Savion. “It has been an exciting journey that required focused collaboration across both organizations to complete development on Savion’s first utility-scale solar project in Illinois. According to Mercom’s Q1 2024 Solar Funding and M&amp;A <a href="https://cms.mercomindia.com/product/q1-2024-solar-funding-ma-report/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Report</a>, almost 10.8 GW of solar projects were acquired in Q1 2024 compared to 11.9 GW in Q1 2023. In a quarter-over-quarter comparison, 13.7 GW of solar projects were acquired in Q4 2023.

Savion Sells 150 MW Solar Project to Ameren Missouri

<a href="https://www.shell.com/energy-and-innovation/new-energies.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Shell New Energies</a>, a subsidiary of Royal Dutch Shell, has signed an agreement to buy a 100% stake in Savion, a utility-scale solar and energy storage developer in the U.S., from Macquarie&#8217;s Green Investment Group.
Savion has a pipeline of more than 18 GW of solar and energy storage projects, with over 100 projects under development in 26 states.
The acquisition is expected to close by year-end. Subject to the satisfaction of closing conditions, Savion will be a wholly-owned subsidiary of Shell, operating under its existing brand within Shell&#8217;s Renewables and Energy Solutions Integrated Power business.
Shell said the acquisition will bolster its strategy to develop an integrated power business as it aims to become a net-zero business by 2050. As part of this strategy, Shell aims to sell more than 560 TWh of power globally per year by 2030. This is twice as much electricity as the company sells currently.
&#8220;Savion&#8217;s significant asset pipeline, highly experienced team, and proven success as a renewable energy project developer make it a compelling fit for Shell&#8217;s growing integrated power business. As one of the fastest-growing, lowest-cost renewable energy sources, solar power is a critical element of our renewables portfolio as we accelerate our drive to net zero,&#8221; said Wael Sawan, Integrated Gas, Renewables and Energy Solutions Director, Shell.
Savion&#8217;s acquisition will expand Shell&#8217;s existing solar and energy storage portfolio. Shell currently interests developers such as Silicon Ranch Corporation in the U.S., Cleantech Solar in Singapore, and ESCO Pacific in Australia. It also owns Sonnen, a smart energy storage company in Germany, and EOLFI, wind and solar developer in France.
Shell had <a href="https://mercomindia.com/shell-develop-utility-scale-solar-projects/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">signed</a> a framework agreement with the renewable energy developer Island Green Power to develop solar photovoltaic projects with co-located battery storage potential in the U.K. The initial collaboration is expected to generate over 700 MW.
Shell partnered with Clearstone Energy to develop several utility-scale solar PV projects in England. The Clearstone Energy projects have a combined export capacity of 100 MW with co-located battery storage potential.
In August, Shell <a href="https://mercomindia.com/funding-and-ma-roundup-shell-to-buy/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">signed</a> an agreement to buy 100% of the equity interests of Inspire Energy Capital, a renewable energy residential retailer.
A growing number of oil and gas companies have been acquiring energy storage companies and expanding their investments in clean energy technologies. According to a <a href="https://mercomcapital.com/product/9m-q3-2021-funding-ma-report-storage-grid-efficiency/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">report</a> by Mercom Capital Group, in the first nine months of 2021, seven oil and gas and utility majors have acquired battery storage companies and projects.
