Before allotting the remaining capacity, MHI has announced a stakeholders’ consultation on July 24, 2023, at Jacaranda Hall, New Delhi. The stakeholders are invited to provide written comments and feedback by July 20, 2023. Organizations must RSVP by July 21 to confirm their attendance at the stakeholders’ consultation.</p>
<p><a href="https://www.mercomindia.com/gmr-bags-contract-for-smart-meter-uttar-pradesh" target="_blank" rel="noopener"><strong>GMR Smart Electricity Distribution, a subsidiary of GMR Power and Urban Infra, won the order to install, integrate and maintain 7.57 million smart meters across different regions in Uttar Pradesh.</strong></a> Two state DISCOMs floated a total of three tenders for the smart meter projects in April this year, Purvanchal Vidyut Vitran Nigam for Varanasi, Azamgarh zone, and Prayagraj, Mirzapur zone and Dakshinanchal Vidyut Vitran Nigam for Agra and Aligarh zone.</p>
<p><a href="https://www.mercomindia.com/olectra-%e2%82%b93-95-billion-contract-ev-manufacturing-unit" target="_blank" rel="noopener"><strong>Electric bus manufacturer Olectra Greentech awarded the contract for the construction of its new greenfield electric vehicle manufacturing facility at Seetharampur in Hyderabad to Megha Engineering and Infrastructures.</strong></a> The proposed value of the contract is ₹3.95 billion (~$48.12 million). As per the contract, the facility will be developed on 150 acres of land at Seetharampur and completed within 12 months from the shareholders’ final approval date, i.e., July 19, 2023.</p>
<p><a href="https://www.mercomindia.com/teslas-q2-net-income-up-20-yoy-due-to-higher-ev-sales" target="_blank" rel="noopener"><strong>U.S.-based electric vehicle maker Tesla reported a net income of $2.7 billion in the second quarter of the financial year 2023, a 20% year-over-year increase.</strong></a> The company attributed it to increased vehicle deliveries and other parts of the business, which include energy storage and solar project deployments. The gross profit from the storage and solar segments stood at $278 million compared to ₹97 million YoY.</p>
<p><a href="https://www.mercomindia.com/levelized-cost-of-green-hydrogen" target="_blank" rel="noopener"><strong>A substantial increase in hydrogen production capacities, particularly for green hydrogen, is imperative if climate goals are to be achieved, says a recent report by Agora Industry.</strong></a> The report highlights that using electrolyzers powered by renewable electricity is essential to generate hydrogen without any greenhouse gas emissions. The report illustrates the potential disparities in calculating the Levelized Cost of Hydrogen (LCOH). It also aims to elucidate why real-world projects may exhibit significantly different LCOH values compared to estimates from high-level studies.</p>
<p><a href="https://www.mercomindia.com/iit-researchers-self-healing-coating-solution-solar-cells" target="_blank" rel="noopener"><strong>Researchers at the Indian Institute of Technology, Bhilai, have developed an innovative self-healing polymeric coating material for photovoltaic applications,</strong></a> which demonstrates the ability to heal cracks spontaneously and offers an accessible and cost-effective solution for self-healing coating materials. The researchers said the self-healing coating is designed to repair cracks within solar cells in only five minutes.</p>
<p><a href="https://www.mercomindia.com/advanced-economies-electricity-global-demand" target="_blank" rel="noopener"><strong>Electricity demand in the European Union is expected to reach its lowest level in two decades, marking a significant decline of 3% in 2023, according to the latest “Electricity Market Report” by the International Energy Agency.</strong></a> The report attributes this drop to the ongoing effects of the global energy crisis and an economic slowdown impacting advanced economies. However, while electricity demand is expected to ease worldwide in 2023, overall global electricity demand growth is predicted to increase strongly in 2024.</p>

<p><a href="https://www.vikramsolar.com/" target="_blank" rel="noopener"><strong>Vikram Solar</strong></a><strong> was awarded a 350 MW solar module supply order from a U.S.-based Independent Power Producer (IPP).</strong> The project will be located in Arizona. Vikram Solar’s consolidated export portfolio in the U.S. now stands at approximately 700 MW across Arizona, Texas, and the West Coast. The company did not disclose the financial details of the deal and the IPP.</p>
<p><strong>The consortium of Olectra Greentech and Evey Trans </strong><a href="https://www.bseindia.com/xml-data/corpfiling/AttachLive/cbbbf3ab-9fa9-4e62-817e-4e9edb594160.pdf" target="_blank" rel="noopener"><strong>received</strong></a><strong> a letter of award from one of the state transport corporations for 123 electric buses.</strong> This order is on a gross cost contract/OPEX model basis for 15 years, and its value is approximately ₹1.85 billion (~$23.20 million). EVEY will procure these buses from Olectra, which will then be delivered over nine months. Olectra will also undertake maintenance of these buses during the contract period.</p>
<p><strong>Mercedes-Benz </strong><a href="https://group-media.mercedes-benz.com/marsMediaSite/en/instance/ko.xhtml?oid=54134101&amp;ls=L3NlYXJjaHJlc3VsdC9zZWFyY2hyZXN1bHQueGh0bWw_c2VhcmNoVHlwZT1mbGV4JnNlYXJjaFN0cmluZz1OTVNfRmxleFNlYXJjaF9OZXdzT25seUNvbXBhbnkmcmVzdWx0SW5mb1R5cGVJZD00MDYyNiZmbGV4SW5mb1R5cGVzPTQwNjI2JTJDNDA2MzA!&amp;rs=1" target="_blank" rel="noopener"><strong>announced</strong></a><strong> that it plans to build a 100 MW wind farm at its test track in Papenburg, northern Germany, to cover more than 15% of the annual electricity demand of Mercedes-Benz Group</strong> in Germany. As part of its effort to erect a double-digit number of wind turbines by the middle of the decade, Mercedes-Benz is also planning a long-term power purchase agreement with a partner, equivalent to a triple-digit million euros amount. The large-scale installation of photovoltaic systems on the test site is also under examination. The project plans and an ecological impact review will be closely coordinated with the local authorities and stakeholders.</p>
<p><strong>Goldwind, a China-based wind power solutions company, </strong><a href="https://www.goldwind.com/en/news/focus-article/?id=755472528843109376" target="_blank" rel="noopener"><strong>secured</strong></a><strong> a deal with Masdar, Abu Dhabi Future Energy Company, to supply 111 units of GW155-4.5MW turbines to the Zarafshan wind farm</strong> in the Navoi region in central Uzbekistan. The project delivery is scheduled to be started in the third quarter of 2022 and completed by the end of 2024. Once built and in operation, it will significantly improve the local power mix, powering 500,000 Uzbekistan households and displacing 1.1 million tons of carbon dioxide annually. The project will help Uzbekistan achieve the goal of increasing the proportion of green electricity to 25% by 2030.</p>
<p><strong>TES, a sustainable technology services company, </strong><a href="https://www.tes-amm.com/press-release/tes-and-strides-sign-memorandum-of-understanding-on-ev-batteries" target="_blank" rel="noopener"><strong>signed</strong></a><strong> a memorandum of understanding with a Singapore-based transportation company, Strides Mobility, to collaborate on lithium-ion battery recycling</strong> and electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure expansion in Singapore. Under the agreement, the two companies will work on EV battery recycling and charging and energy storage initiatives. The agreement involves sharing information on numerous aspects of e-mobility, with TES providing services such as battery life cycle assessment, safe handling and recycling of end-of-life EV batteries, and using TES’s 2nd Life Energy Storage System technology in Stride Mobility’s growing charging station infrastructure.</p>
<p><strong>Nordex Group </strong><a href="https://www.nordex-online.com/en/2022/09/nordex-se-nordex-group-receives-order-from-wpd-for-31-5-mw-in-germany/" target="_blank" rel="noopener"><strong>received</strong></a><strong> an order for 31.5 MW wind turbines in Germany from wpd, which includes seven N149/4.X turbines of the Delta4000 series for the Kantow wind farm.</strong> The order also includes a premium service contract for the maintenance of the turbines over 15 years with an extension option for a further five years. The 31.5 MW Kantow wind farm is built in Brandenburg, about 90 kilometers northwest of Berlin. The turbines with a rated output of 4.5 MW will be installed on hybrid towers with a hub height of 164 meters in summer 2023.</p>
