					</table><p>A team of researchers at the  U.S. Department of Energy’s National Renewable Energy Laboratory (<a href="https://www.nrel.gov/about/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">NREL</a>) has claimed to achieve 91%-93% of bifaciality on a newly developed bifacial perovskite solar cell.</p>
<p>The researchers designed a perovskite bifacial solar cell with a modified thickness and achieved efficiencies under illumination from both sides, which were very close together.</p>
<p>They utilized optical and electrical simulations to determine the necessary thickness to be constructed into the cell.</p>
<p>The perovskite layer on the front of the bifacial solar cell had to be thick enough to absorb most of the photons from a certain part of the solar spectrum but not too thick that it would block them. The team also determined the ideal thickness of the rear electrode to minimize resistive loss.</p>
<p>The simulations guided the team to design the bifacial cell with an accurate thickness of 850 nanometers.</p>
<p>The researchers placed the cell between two solar simulators to evaluate the efficiency gained through bifacial illumination. The direct light was aimed at the front side, while the rear received the reflected light.</p>
<p>The efficiency of the perovskite cell increased as the ratio of the reflected light to the front illumination increased.</p>
<p>The researchers claimed that the lab-measured efficiency of the front illumination crossed 23%, and from the back illumination, the efficiency was about 91%-93% of the front side.</p>
<p>The study “Highly efficient bifacial single-junction perovskite solar cells” was published in the journal <a href="https://www.cell.com/joule/home" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Joule</a>.</p>
<p>In the past, bifacial perovskite solar cell research developed devices not competent enough compared to monofacial cells with a record efficiency of ~26%.</p>
<p>The dual nature of bifacial solar cells enables them to capture direct sunlight on the front and reflected sunlight on the back, allowing them to outperform their monofacial counterparts.</p>
<p>Bifacial perovskite solar modules are known to cost more to manufacture than the widely used monofacial modules. However, the researchers estimate that bifacial modules could become better financial investments because of the 10-20% higher power generation.</p>
<p>The U.S. Department of Energy Solar Energy Technologies Office funded the research.</p>
<p>Recently another team of researchers at NREL and Northern Illinois University <a href="https://www.mercomindia.com/gold-layer-substitute-perovskite-market-potential" target="_blank" rel="noopener">developed</a> a layer made of nickel-doped graphite combined with a bismuth-indium alloy as a cost-effective alternative to the gold layer used on perovskite solar cells.</p>
<p>In March this year, NREL <a href="https://www.mercomindia.com/one-step-perovskite-solar-cells-commercially-viable" target="_blank" rel="noopener">devised</a> a new way to produce perovskite solar cells that could speed its commercialization. After 1,200 hours of continuous operation, the team created a high-efficiency solar cell that maintained over 90% of its initial efficiency.</p>

Researchers Develop Perovskite Solar Cells with ~93% Bifaciality

					</table><p><a href="https://ntpcrel.co.in/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">NTPC Renewable Energy</a>, a wholly-owned subsidiary of <a href="https://www.ntpc.co.in/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">NTPC</a>, has invited bids for the supply of solar modules for the Shajapur solar project (458.25 MW), Bhuj solar project (375 MW), and Bhadla solar project (625 MW).</p>
<p>The scope of work includes manufacturing, supply, packing, forwarding, and transportation of open category crystalline solar modules as per the wattage and dimensions mentioned in the tender.</p>
<p>The last date to submit the bids is July 6, 2023. Bids will be opened on the same day.</p>
<p>Bidders can quote for different packages.</p>
<p>The Shajapur Unit 1, with a total capacity of 149.53 MW, comes under Package A. The Shajapur Unit 2, with a total capacity of 313.3 MW, comes under Package B. The select contractor must supply the Monofacial modules for both packages.</p>
<p>The Bhuj solar project in Gujarat, with a total capacity of 378.75 MW, comes under Package C. The Bhadla project, with a total capacity of 631.2 5 MW, comes under Package D. The contractor must supply Bifacial modules for these two packages.</p>
<p>The bid security deposit as per the bid capacities is given below:</p>

<p>Bidders should have supplied solar modules or solar cells for a cumulative capacity of 40 MW or above, out of which at least one such supply order should have been 10 MW or above capacity before the bid opening date.</p>
<p>The average annual turnover of the bidder should be at least ₹1 billion (~$12.13 million) for bid capacity up to 315 MW, and for bid capacity greater than 315 MW and up to 630 MW, the average annual turnover should be ₹3 billion (~$36.39 million).</p>
<p>For a quoted bid capacity greater than 630 MW and up to 945 MW, the turnover should be at least ₹7 billion (~$84.93 million), and for a bid capacity greater than 945 MW and up to 1,260 MW, the turnover should be at least ₹13 billion (~$157.73 million).</p>
<p>For a capacity greater than 1,260 MW and up to 1,575 MW, the turnover should be at least ₹19 billion (~$230.53 million).</p>
<p>The net worth of the bidders as of the last day of the preceding financial year should not be less than 100% of their paid-up share capital.</p>
<p>In November last year, NTPC Renewable Energy <a href="https://www.mercomindia.com/ntpc-bids-supply-modules-325-mw-madhya-pradesh" target="_blank" rel="noopener">invited</a> bids for the supply of solar modules for 325 MW of solar projects in Shajapur Solar Park, Madhya Pradesh.</p>
<p>Earlier, NTPC had<a href="https://www.mercomindia.com/ntpc-tender-to-supply-bifacial-modules-735-mw-solar" target="_blank" rel="noopener"> invited</a> bids for a solar photovoltaic module package for the 735 MW (3*245MW) Nokh Solar Project in Rajasthan.</p>
