					</table><p>As solar systems proliferate on India’s rooftops, a silent crisis is <a href="https://www.mercomindia.com/monsoon-winds-weak-links-rooftop-solar" target="_blank" rel="noopener">unfolding</a>. The promise of clean energy and cost savings is being increasingly undercut by poor engineering practices and subpar installations, many of which cannot withstand the monsoon winds and cyclonic conditions common in several parts of the country. Recent weather incidents in cities like Bhilwara, Gwalior, Indore, Mira Road, Kanpur, and Lucknow have highlighted this issue. These were not extreme weather events but typical pre-monsoon storms. Yet, many rooftop solar systems could not survive even 120 kmph winds. Experts warn that if systems fail under such common wind conditions, they will be destroyed in stronger cyclonic winds that often reach up to 200 kmph. Weak mounting structures, inferior materials, and rushed installations are creating a trail of damaged rooftops, uprooted systems, and broken modules.</p>
<p>Madhya Pradesh Urja Vikas Nigam <a href="https://www.mercomindia.com/madhya-pradesh-tenders-1-2-gw-solar-projects-for-agricultural-feeders" target="_blank" rel="noopener">invited</a> bids to develop 1,200 MW of grid-connected solar projects under the feeder solarization component of the Surya Mitra Krishi Feeders program. The power generated will be sold to the Madhya Pradesh Power Management Company. Bids must be submitted by June 25, 2025. Bids will be opened on June 30. Bidders can submit only one bid for each substation. All feeders connected to the same substation will be treated as a single project, and the total capacity at that substation will be counted as one project. The eligibility criteria are divided into two categories: self-development mode and developer mode.</p>
<p>Climate technology-focused asset financing company Stride Green <a href="https://www.mercomindia.com/climate-tech-asset-financing-firm-stride-green-raises-3-5-million-in-seed-funding" target="_blank" rel="noopener">raised</a> $3.5 million as part of its seed funding round led by Micelio Technology Fund, Incubate Fund Asia, and other strategic investors. These funds will be utilized to provide innovative, tech-enabled financing and leasing solutions for India’s clean energy transition sectors, such as renewable energy, electric mobility, and battery storage. The funds will also be used to expand the company’s team, bringing in critical expertise to strengthen capabilities and support future growth. Stride Green plans to expand its presence into new regions and diversify into emerging verticals within the climate technology sector. According to the company, India’s cleantech sector witnessed a surge in investments, surpassing China in clean technology funding during the third quarter of 2024, with deals worth approximately $2.4 billion.</p>
<p>Jindal Stainless will <a href="https://www.mercomindia.com/jindal-stainless-to-procure-700-mu-of-hybrid-renewable-power-from-oyster" target="_blank" rel="noopener">procure</a> approximately 700 million units of renewable energy annually from Oyster Renewable Energy’s 282 MW interstate wind-solar hybrid power projects, which are under development. The projects are being implemented by Oyster’s special purpose vehicle, Oyster Green Hybrid One. Jindal has acquired a 33.64% stake in Oyster Green Hybrid One. The wind-solar hybrid projects comprise an 82 MW wind project and a 135 MW solar project in Agar, Madhya Pradesh, and a 99 MW wind project in Bhuj, Gujarat. The company will invest approximately ₹1.32 billion (~$15.4 million), with ₹792 million (~$9.25 million) allocated to the current tranche upon achieving a milestone. The projects are backed by a ₹15.17 billion (~$176.65 million) loan sanctioned by the Indian Renewable Energy Development Agency.</p>

<p>The wind-solar hybrid projects comprise an 82 MW wind project and a 135 MW solar project in Agar, Madhya Pradesh, and a 99 MW wind project in Bhuj, Gujarat.</p>
<p>The company will invest approximately ₹1.32 billion (~$15.4 million), with ₹792 million (~$9.25 million) allocated to the current tranche upon achieving a milestone.</p>
<p>The projects are backed by a ₹15.17 billion (~$176.65 million) loan sanctioned by the Indian Renewable Energy Development Agency.</p>
<p>The projects are likely to be commissioned by the third quarter of the financial year (FY) 2026.</p>
<p>According to its 2023-24 annual report, Jindal Stainless aims to achieve net-zero carbon emissions by 2050.</p>
<p>In FY 2024, Jindal Stainless installed a 7.3 MW floating solar project in Jaipur. A 23 MW rooftop solar power project is also under construction for its Jaipur unit.</p>
<p>Jindal Stainless has set up a 6.54 MW rooftop solar project for its Hisar unit in Haryana.  Another 28 MW rooftop solar project is under construction and is expected to be commissioned in FY 2025.</p>
<p>For its Hisar unit, Jindal Stainless also completed a green hydrogen project in conjunction with a 2.8 MW solar project, which generates 90 Nm³ of green hydrogen per hour.</p>
<p>The company plans 18.5 MW of rooftop solar power projects across various locations.</p>
<p>It has signed a memorandum of understanding with Renew Power to procure 100 MW of round-the-clock (RTC) renewable energy for its Jaipur unit. Jindal Stainless invested ₹1.38 billion (~$16.1 million) for a 26% stake in Renew Power’s SPV, Renew Green.</p>
<p>It has also signed an MoU for the supply of 100 MW of RTC power for its Hisar unit. The company is also planning to procure an additional 100 MW to meet its expansion requirements.</p>
<p>In FY 2024, Jindal Stainless consumed 33,890 MWh of renewable energy.</p>
<p>During forced outages and high load demand periods, Jindal Stainless leveraged the Indian Energy Exchange’s green day-ahead market and green term-ahead market to meet its intensive demand. It purchased 68% of its renewable energy from open access.</p>
<p>In April 2025, Jindal Stainless’s subsidiary, JSL Super Steel, <a href="https://mercomindia.com/jsl-super-steel-to-procure-11-mw-solar-power-from-sunsures-project" target="_blank" rel="noopener">announced</a> it would procure 11 MW of power from Sunsure Energy’s 49 MW solar project in Augasi, Uttar Pradesh.</p>

					</table><p>India’s first green hydrogen project in the stainless steel sector was inaugurated by Union Minister for Steel Jyotiraditya Scindia at <a href="https://www.jindalstainless.com/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Jindal Stainless</a> in Hisar, Haryana.</p>
<p>The green hydrogen plant was set up by <a href="https://www.hygenco.in/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Hygenco Green Energies</a> for Jindal Stainless, an OP Jindal Group company.</p>
<p>Claimed to be the world’s first off-grid green hydrogen plant for the stainless steel industry and the world’s first green hydrogen plant with rooftop and floating solar, the facility aims to reduce carbon emissions by around 2,700 metric tons per annum and 54,000 tons of CO<sub>2</sub> emissions over the next two decades.</p>
<p>“The project not only aligns with the government&#8217;s vision but also creates valuable employment opportunities, showcasing the potential of responsible industrial practices,” Scindia said.</p>
<p>The minister urged other industry stakeholders to enthusiastically adopt clean technologies, actively participating in India&#8217;s transformative journey towards a greener economy and fostering a conscientious industrial landscape.</p>
<p>Scindia highlighted India&#8217;s progress in the steel sector, evolving from a net importer to a net exporter and aiming to become the world&#8217;s largest producer of crude steel. One key initiative in this journey is the National Green Hydrogen Mission, launched last year with an outlay of  ₹197.44 billion (~$2.3 billion) with the aim to make India a global hub for production, usage, and export of green hydrogen and its derivatives.</p>
<p>The mission is also <a href="https://www.mercomindia.com/mnre-pilot-implement-hydrogen-steel" target="_blank" rel="noopener">supporting</a> green hydrogen pilot projects in the steel sector with a budget of around ₹4.55 billion (~$54.8 million) until the financial year 2029-30. The program aims to gradually substitute fossil fuels to use 100% hydrogen in the Direct Reduced Iron process of steelmaking.</p>
<p>The minister <a href="https://www.mercomindia.com/deploying-renewable-energy-indias-steel-industry" target="_blank" rel="noopener">referred</a> to the 13 task forces set up to identify action points for each aspect of green steel production and implementation of the steel scrap recycling policy to enhance the availability of domestically generated scrap.</p>
