Exus Renewables North America, a utility-scale renewable energy project developer, <a href="https://mercomcapital.com/exus-secures-over-300-million-financing-for-solar-and-wind-portfolio/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">announced</a> the closing of $308.2 million financing for a portfolio of solar and wind energy projects in the U.S. The portfolio comprises the 185 MW Zia Solar Power solar portfolio, located in New Mexico, and the 169 MW Keystone wind project portfolio in Pennsylvania.
ENGIE North America, a Texas-based electric utility, has <a href="https://mercomcapital.com/engie-acquires-over-70-mw-net-energy-metered-solar-projects/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">announced</a> the acquisition of a portfolio of 22 net energy metered solar projects, totaling over 70 MW in Pennsylvania, from Prospect14, a Pennsylvania-based solar project developer. With the acquisition of these projects, ENGIE continues to expand its renewable energy portfolio in the region.
BayWa r.e., a renewable energy project developer, announced the <a href="https://mercomcapital.com/baywa-r-e-sells-60-mw-solar-project-portfolio-in-spain/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">sale</a> of a 60 MWp solar project portfolio in Spain to KGAL Investment Management, an asset manager. The portfolio includes the 50 MWp Gerena II and 10 MWp Chamorro ground-mounted solar projects, both located in the municipality of Guillena, Seville. Both projects have reached commercial operation in the second quarter of 2025 and are expected to generate approximately 125 GWh of clean electricity annually.
Renalfa IPP, a renewable energy independent power producer, <a href="https://mercomcapital.com/renalfa-ipp-secures-over-369-million-holdco-financing-led-by-ebrd/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">closed</a> €315 million (~$369.95 million) Holdco financing from a consortium of lenders, including the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development. <a href="https://www.cambridgepower.co.uk/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Cambridge Power</a>, a U.K.-based grid-scale energy storage and renewable energy projects developer, announced the sale of a 70 MW solar and 100 MW Battery Energy Storage System project located near Eaton Socon in Bedfordshire to <a href="https://www.agr-group.co.uk/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">AGR Renewables</a>, a renewable energy project developer.
The projects comprise a 70 MWp solar with a 50 MW co-located battery energy storage system, and a standalone 50 MW battery storage system.
The solar project will export up to 49.9 MW of clean electricity, alongside 100 MW of grid balancing capacity from the battery storage system, ensuring grid network stability.
The battery storage system secured planning permission in 2023, while the solar project got approval in early 2025. The construction on the project is expected to commence in August 2025.
The company did not disclose financial details of the transaction.
This deal follows the sale of the fully consented 29.9 MW battery storage project at Rutherglen in Scotland in November 2024 to FTSE-250 investor NextEnergy.
Oliver Breidt, Founder of AGR, commented: “The acquisition of Eaton Socon marks a significant milestone in AGR’s growth story. The assets complement AGR’s existing pipeline and further consolidate the company’s position as one of the fastest-growing renewable energy developers in the country. AGR is planning to deliver the projects in line with its target of delivering 500MW of operational solar and 1GWh of BESS assets by the end of 2026. AGR worked closely with Cambridge Power, the developers of the scheme, in what was a fruitful transaction for both parties.”
According to Mercom&#8217;s 1H and Q2 2025 Solar Funding and M&amp;A <a href="https://mercomcapital.com/product/1h-and-q2-2025-solar-funding-and-ma-report/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">report</a>, approximately 19.9 GW of solar projects were acquired in the first half of 2025, compared to 18.5 GW in the first half of 2024.
Earlier this month, SUNOTEC, a renewable energy development and construction company, announced the <a href="https://mercomcapital.com/sunotec-acquires-400mw-solar-600mwh-battery-storage-project/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">acquisition</a> of a 100% stake in SIA DSE Lazas Solar from Danish Sun Energy, a renewable project developer, to build a 400 MWp solar project with a 600 MWh battery energy storage system.
