Suzlon Energy has secured a wind turbine order with a capacity of 838 MW from Tata Power Renewable Energy. The project is part of Tata Power’s firm and dispatchable renewable energy (FDRE) initiative and represents Suzlon’s second-largest order ever, following the 1,544 MW order from NTPC Green Energy.
The 838 MW project will involve the supply of 266 of Suzlon’s S144 wind turbines, each with a rated capacity of 3.15 MW. The turbines will be deployed across three states — 302 MW in Karnataka, 271 MW in Maharashtra, and 265 MW in Tamil Nadu.
These locations are part of the FDRE bids awarded to SJVN and NTPC, which focus on creating hybrid renewable power systems capable of delivering continuous and reliable clean energy.
Suzlon stated that its S144 turbine platform has been designed to maximize efficiency and output in different wind conditions while meeting requirements for large-scale projects.
FDRE projects combine wind and other renewable sources with storage and grid integration technologies to ensure round-the-clock availability of renewable power, addressing intermittency challenges traditionally associated with renewables.
Suzlon Energy recorded a net profit of ₹3.24 billion(~$37.01 million) in the first quarter of the financial year 2026, increasing 7.3% year-over-year from ₹3.02 billion (~$34.5 million).
In June this year, Suzlon secured an order from AMPIN Energy Transition to supply 54 of its S144 wind turbine generators for a 170.1 MW project in Kurnool, Andhra Pradesh.
In May this year, Suzlon Energy and Integrum Energy won Bharat Petroleum Corporation’s tender to set up 100 MW wind power projects in Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra. The tender was floated in December 2023.
Tata Power Renewable Energy has a wind energy portfolio of over 3.9 GW. Last December, it secured a contract to develop a 400 MW wind-solar hybrid project with the Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company.
