The state government of Haryana has exempted solar materials and equipment from value added tax (VAT) in the state. The order was issued by the Excise and Taxation department, Government of Haryana, with immediate effect on May 8, 2017.

With this order, solar lantern, solar home system, standalone street lighting system, solar water heating system, solar water pumping system, solar cooker (box as well as dish type), solar charger/inverter, solar photovoltaic (PV) modules, solar collectors, solar dishes, its inverters or PCUs (Power Conditioning Units), energy meters and alternators purchased for the installation of solar power generation projects (both rooftop and ground mounted) are exempt from VAT.

This action has been taken in public interest, according to a Haryana government release. Mercom reported last month that Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) exempted solar rooftop materials and equipment utilized for rooftop solar projects (grid-connected) from customs and excise duty.
