Industries that run 24X7 have a high power demand. With rising grid tariffs, power costs place a heavy burden on businesses. Installing rooftop solar systems can significantly mitigate the problem.

One such example is that of a snacks manufacturer, Morano Namkeen, which is saving ₹8 million (~$88,728) annually from an 850-kW rooftop solar project installed at its facility in Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh.

The rooftop system helps Morano meet 30% of its power consumption.

Before the installation of the rooftop project, Morano was incurring a power expenditure of ₹30 million (~$332,730) annually.

Speaking to Mercom, Nitin Aswani, Director at Morano Namkeen, said the company decided to install rooftop solar due to the significant savings.

The rooftop project is expected to pay for itself within three years.

Uttar Pradesh-based installer Sun Moon Power set up the rooftop system under the behind-the-meter system.

The rooftop system utilizes Waaree Energie’s 585 Wp TopCon N-type and is coupled with Luminous’ 100 kWp. It generates 2,700 units per day and 80,000 units per month.

Sun Moon Power stated that the Morano chose to go solar due to ample rooftop space and the potential for a high return on investment. Nearly 70% of the project is installed on a single roof.

India added 4.9 GW of rooftop solar capacity in the first nine months (9M) of the calendar year 2025, compared to 1.9 GW in the previous year, a 161% year-over-year (YoY) increase, according to Mercom India’s 3 2025 India Rooftop Solar Market Report.

The industrial segment contributed 413.5 MW, accounting for 19.8% of the quarter’s additions, followed by the commercial segment with 123.4 MW (5.9%).

In another instance of a snacks manufacturer saving through a rooftop system, Prabhuji Pure Food, a vertical of Haldiram’s, saved nearly ₹4.38 million (~$51,214) annually over the past three years. The solar energy is utilized to power its snacks manufacturing plants in Kolkata.

To raise awareness among businesses about the benefits of shifting to solar, the financial benefits, new approaches, and the nuances of adding battery energy storage systems, Mercom India hosts a pan-India ‘C&I Clean Energy Meet’. The next event will be held in Nashik on January 9, 2026, and in Coimbatore on February 5, 2026.
