Saatvik Commissions 2 GW Encapsulation Film Facility in Haryana

The company hopes the plant will reduce material handling costs and waste generation

Haryana-based solar module manufacturer Saatvik Green Energy (SGEL) has operationalized a 2 GW encapsulation polyolefin elastomer (EPE) film manufacturing facility at its campus in Ambala, Haryana.

EPE films ensure strong adhesion between solar cell layers to maintain electrical insulation and enable long-term durability under varied operating conditions.

With the new in-house EPE manufacturing facility, SGEL will have direct oversight over material formulation, optical properties, and lamination performance. The company stated that this will ensure consistent quality across its solar module portfolio, including its M10 and G12 high-wattage module formats.

The EPE facility will eliminate external transportation, freight, insurance, and heavy-duty packaging requirements associated with long-distance procurement. This will reduce the overall material handling costs and waste generation.

Saatvil Green said these efficiencies will help lower module production costs, reinforce the company’s sustainability commitments, and strengthen the supply chain resilience.

Prashant Mathur, CEO at Saatvik Green Energy, said that by localizing critical components and deepening vertical integration, the company continues to build a robust domestic value chain that supports India’s clean-energy transition and long-term energy security.

In September, the Directorate General of Trade Remedies initiated an investigation into the alleged dumping of solar encapsulants exported from and originating in South Korea, Thailand, and Vietnam. The investigation is in response to a complaint that the encapsulants dumped into India from the three countries are identical to those produced by the domestic industry.

Indian solar ancillary component manufacturers had urged the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy last year to mandate the use of domestically manufactured solar components, including encapsulants, in government projects to create a robust local supply chain and reduce the reliance on imports.

India’s solar cell and module manufacturing has been growing rapidly, but the components ecosystem comprising encapsulants, backsheets, glass, junction boxes, aluminum frames, and mounting structures continues to rely heavily on imports.
