NTPC Green Energy (NGEL) has commissioned 95.75 MW out of the 1,255 MW Khavda-I Solar Project in Gujarat.
The project was set up under Phase II of the Central Public Sector Undertaking (CPSU) program.
With the latest commissioning, NTPC Green’s commissioned capacity has increased from 7,419.98 MW to 7515.7 MW.
Recently, NGEL commissioned 37.95 MW of its 300 MW solar project in Khavda, bringing the total operational capacity to 262 MW. In the first phase, a capacity of 142.2 MW was commissioned on June 28, 2025. It was followed by the commissioning of 32.8 MW and 49.125 MW in June and August.
In October this year, NGEL announced the commencement of commercial operations of a 12.5 MW solar capacity at Bhuj, Gujarat. This capacity is part of a total 37.5 MW solar project being developed by Ayana Renewable Power Four, a subsidiary of Ayana Renewable Power.
In September 2025, NTPC commissioned 25 MW out of 37.5 MW solar project in Bhuj and 9.9 MW out of a total 92.4 MW wind energy project in the same location.
In August 2025, NTPC Renewable Energy awarded Sterling and Wilson Renewable Energy, the engineering, procurement, and construction contract to set up a 245 MW solar project in Khavda Renewable Energy Park.
In September this year, NGEL commissioned 100 MW of renewable energy capacity of IRCON Renewable Power’s 500 MW project at the Pavagada Solar Park in Karnataka. IRCON had won the 500 MW capacity at the Indian Renewable Energy Development Agency’s 2021 auction to set up 5 GW grid-connected solar projects.
In July 2025, as part of a major clean energy push, the central government allowed NTPC to invest up to ₹200 billion (~$2.32 billion) in NGEL, NTPC Renewable Energy, and its other joint ventures. The earlier investment cap was ₹75 billion (~$873.38 million).
