NTPC has commissioned 167 MW out of a total 245 MW solar capacity at its Nokh Solar project in Rajasthan (CPSU Program Phase-II, Tranche -III), 25 MW out of 37.5 MW (solar) in Bhuj, Gujarat, and 9.9 MW out of a total 92.4 MW capacity at its wind energy project in the same location.

The wind capacity was commissioned by NTPC’s subsidiary, NTPC Green Energy (NGEL).

The solar capacity additions will increase NTPC’s overall installed and commercial capacity on a standalone and group basis to 60,705 MW and 83,888 MW, respectively.

The wind and the solar projects are owned by Ayana Renewable Power Four, a subsidiary of Ayana Renewable Power, which in turn is a wholly owned subsidiary of NGEL’s joint venture, ONGC NTPC Green. With the new additions, NGEL’s total installed capacity rose to 7,407.47 MW.

Recently, NGEL commissioned 100 MW of renewable energy capacity of IRCON Renewable Power’s (IRPL) 500 MW project at the Pavagada Solar Park in Karnataka. IRPL’s parent company, Ircon International, had won the 500 MW capacity at the Indian Renewable Energy Development Agency’s 2021 auction to set up 5 GW grid-connected solar projects.

In August this year, NTPC Green awarded VSL Renewable Services an operation and maintenance (O&M) contract for 810 MW of its 1,864 MW solar project capacity in Andhra Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, and Rajasthan.

India added solar projects totaling 18 GW in the first half of 2025, a 31% year-over-year  (YoY) increase from the same period last year, according to Mercom India Research’s newly released Q2 2025 India Solar Market Update.

In the second quarter (Q2) of 2025, India added 11.3 GW of solar capacity, a 145.4% YoY increase from 4.6 GW and a 66.9% increase from Q1 2025. Solar accounted for 64% of new power capacity additions in Q2 2025.

India added 1.6 GW of wind energy capacity in Q2 2025, a 113% YoY increase from 769 MW in Q2 2024, according to Mercom India Research.
