MENA Weekly Round-Up: UAE Renewable Energy Capacity Hits 8.2 GW in Decade

The United Arab Emirates’ (UAE) renewable energy capacity increased more than 63-fold over the past decade, rising from 129 MW in 2015 to over 8.2 GW in 2025. Clean energy accounted for 32.4% of the country’s electricity generation in 2025, with the UAE targeting a 35% share by 2031. Clean energy generation exceeded 62.4 GWh during the year, while installed clean energy capacity reached 13.8 GW, comprising nuclear, photovoltaic and concentrated solar power, wind, and waste-to-energy projects.

Saudi Arabia’s Red Sea Utility Infrastructure Project entered full commercial operation. The development includes 340 MW of solar capacity and a 1.227 GWh battery energy storage system. SEPCOIII executed the project under an engineering, procurement, and construction contract covering solar generation, energy storage, grid infrastructure, desalination, water and wastewater networks, waste treatment, communications, and district cooling. The infrastructure will support hotels, an international airport, a marina, and other facilities within the state-owned real estate and tourism developer Red Sea Global’s tourism project.

Egypt’s Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy Mahmoud Esmat met with a delegation from Abu Dhabi Future Energy Company (Masdar), led by CEO Mohamed Jameel Al Ramahi, to review the progress of jointly developed solar, wind, and battery energy storage projects. Projects reviewed included a 200 MW wind project in the Gulf of Suez, which is scheduled for grid connection by December 2027. The meeting also covered projects involving the Infinity-Hassan Allam consortium, including a 1 GW wind project at Ras Shukeir and a 1 GW solar project in Minya paired with 600 MWh of battery storage. A separate 200 MW solar project at Benban, coupled with 120 MWh of battery storage, is expected to be connected to the grid by the end of 2026.

Wind turbine manufacturer Goldwind signed turbine supply and service availability agreements with Fiba Yenilenebilir Enerji Holding for the Tayakadin and Karadere wind projects in Türkiye. The projects will deploy Goldwind’s GW165-6.0 MW permanent magnet direct drive turbine platform. Goldwind will also support turbine delivery, installation, and commissioning. The agreements mark the sixth collaboration between Goldwind and Fiba Renewables in the Turkish market.
