Masdar and Emirates Water and Electricity Company (EWEC) have broken ground on a solar-plus-storage project capable of delivering round-the-clock baseload energy. The project will integrate a 5.2 GW solar power project with a 19 GWh battery energy storage system (BESS). It will also include AI-enhanced forecasting and intelligent dispatch, along with an AI-ready infrastructure for predictive analysis and system optimization. Once operational, the project will deliver 1 GW of baseload power annually. The project is expected to be operational by 2027.

The Egyptian cabinet has approved the signing of two power purchase agreements (PPAs) between the Egyptian Electricity Transmission Company and a consortium, comprising Abu Dhabi’s Masdar, Infinity Power, and Hassan Allam Utilities, to generate 1.2 GW of solar power. The projects will include a BESS with a capacity of 720 MWh and will be located in Benban and Wahat.

Abunayyan Holding and U.S.-based solar solutions provider Nextracker have formed a joint venture to expand solar manufacturing and deployment in Saudi Arabia, the Middle East, and North Africa. The joint venture will support Saudi Arabia’s clean energy target of installing 130 GW of renewable capacity by 2030. The venture will integrate sales, engineering, manufacturing, and operations, and assume control of Nextracker’s existing solar manufacturing facility. The joint venture will focus on producing solar trackers, mechanical infrastructure, and control systems for utility-scale and distributed generation projects across the region.

Bahrain’s Electricity and Water Authority announced the launch of a tender to develop a 150 MW solar power project in collaboration with the private sector. A consortium of international and local consultancy firms has been appointed to oversee the project. KPMG Fakhro will serve as the financial advisor, WSP Parsons Brinckerhoff as the technical advisor, and Trowers & Hamlins as the legal advisor for the project. Once operational, the solar project is expected to provide electricity for around 6,300 homes.
