MENA Weekly Round-Up: Abu Dhabi to Top Solar Capacity Additions by 2035

According to the Emirates Water and Electricity Company, Abu Dhabi will lead solar capacity additions in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) in 2035. Abu Dhabi’s solar capacity additions are expected to increase by almost 2,000% between 2020 and 2030, with 17.5 GW of installed capacity forecasted. By 2035, this capacity is projected to exceed 30 GW, at which point solar is expected to provide approximately 40% of Abu Dhabi’s total power generation. Aligned with this goal, EWEC has already commissioned the development of Noor Abu Dhabi, Al Dhafra, Al Ajban, Khazna, and Zarraf Solar Photovoltaic projects.
Oman’s power and water offtaker Nama Power and Water Procurement Company (Nama PWP) announced plans to initiate the procurement of power from a round-the-clock (RTC) renewable energy project. Nama PWP announced the project in its annual report in 2025. The project will deliver 1 GW of RTC power and have an annual capacity factor exceeding 70% on par with traditional gas-fired generation. Nama PWP has also planned for 280 MW solar independent power project to support the decarbonization of the Marsa LNG project which is under construction at SOHAR Port and Freezone.
Gurgaon-based Vrinda Nano Technologies increased its solar footprint in Saudi Arabia by securing multiple orders totaling 4 GW for the supply of string-monitoring boxes. These orders are expected to be completed in 2026. So far, Vrinda has completed string-monitoring box solutions of more than 5 GW.
Envision Energy partnered with Menderes Tekstil, an Akca Holding company, to develop a 120 MW Begendik Wind power project in Edirne province in Türkiye. The facility will feature 15 units of Envision’s EN-182/8 MW wind turbines and is expected to generate approximately 360 million kWh of clean electricity annually. Under the agreement, Envision Energy will provide integrated lifecycle services, including long-term operations and maintenance support for the wind projects for 15 years.
