Independent power producer Juniper Green Energy has fully commissioned a merchant battery energy storage system (BESS) with a total capacity of 100 MWh at Bikaner in Rajasthan.

The project has been developed through Juniper Green Cosmic, its wholly owned subsidiary.

Of the total capacity, 60 MWh was commissioned in December 2025, while the remaining 40 MWh was commissioned on January 23, 2026. The entire project has completed trial operations and has received approval from the Northern Regional Load Dispatch Centre (NRLDC).

With this commissioning, the Bikaner project is designed to generate revenue through multiple market-linked streams, including peak power arbitrage, grid balancing services, and participation in ancillary services markets.

The commissioning positions Juniper Green Energy as an early mover in India’s merchant energy storage segment, at a time when battery storage is increasingly seen as essential to support renewable energy integration and grid reliability.

Juniper Green Energy partnered with Envision Energy to supply and install energy storage systems at the Bikaner project. The BESS project is connected to the grid and is expected to support system operations in the northern region.

As part of its long-term growth strategy, Juniper plans to deploy BESS  across all its solar project sites that are connected to the interstate transmission system. This approach aims to build a scalable renewables-plus-storage platform that can support both contracted and merchant revenue opportunities over time.

Along with the Bikaner project, the company has already installed an additional 400 MWh of BESS capacity at Fatehgarh in Rajasthan. This larger storage installation is expected to be commissioned by the first quarter of 2026.

Juniper Green has a total portfolio comprising approximately 10 GW of utility-scale solar, wind, and hybrid projects across India, with an operational capacity of approximately 1.66 GW as of January 14, 2026, 3.8 GW of contracted projects under construction, and 4.8 GW of awarded projects under construction.

Recently, the company secured ₹20.39 billion (~$245.7 million) in debt financing from a consortium of domestic and global financial institutions to fund the development of its upcoming renewable energy projects.

In October 2025, Juniper announced the commissioning of 64 MW of renewable energy capacity across two projects in Gujarat and Maharashtra.
