The Indian Energy Exchange (IEX) traded 11,233 million units (MU) of electricity in October 2025, representing a 16.5% year-over-year (YoY) increase.
According to the government data published in September 2025, India’s energy consumption reached 132 billion units (BU), declining 6% YoY. Enhanced wind, solar, and hydropower generation, combined with a steady supply from coal-based generation, resulted in higher liquidity on the exchange platform, leading to a decline in Day Ahead Market (DAM) and Real Time Electricity Market (RTM) prices. The demand was also subdued due to prolonged monsoons.
The market-clearing price in DAM at ₹2.67 (~$0.030)/kWh during October 2025 declined 32% from the same month of the previous year. Similarly, the market-clearing price in RTM at ₹2.73 (~$0.031)/kWh during October 2025 declined 27.8% YoY.
A total of 619,000 renewable energy certificates (REC) were traded in the sessions held on October 8 and 29, at clearing prices of ₹370 (~$4.18)/REC. REC traded volume in October increased by 39.4% YoY.
The next REC trading sessions at the Exchange are scheduled on November 12 and 26.

IEX Green Market, comprising the green day-ahead and green term-ahead market segments, achieved 1,055 MU volume during October, compared to 872 MU in October 2024, registering an increase of 21% YoY.
