India recorded its highest-ever annual solar capacity addition in the calendar year 2025, installing 36.6 GW, a 43% increase over the 25.6 GW added in 2024, according to Mercom India’s newly released Q4 and Annual 2025 India Solar Market Update Report. This milestone underscores the sector’s strong growth momentum, supported by favorable policies, faster project execution, and improved market conditions. Large-scale solar projects, including open access installations, accounted for the bulk of capacity additions in 2025, contributing nearly 81%, while rooftop solar accounted for over 19%.
Advait Energy Transitions, Equentia Natural Resources DMCC, and Sun Drops Energia (KP Group) won Gujarat Urja Vikas Nigam’s (GUVNL) auction to set up 335 MW/670 MWh of standalone battery energy storage systems (BESS) in Gujarat (Phase VIII). Advait Energy Transitions won 150 MW/300 MWh at a tariff of ₹210,000 (~$2,319.67)/MW/month, and Equentia Natural Resources won 65 MW/130 MWh at a tariff of ₹211,999 (~2,341.75)/MW/month. Sun Drops Energia secured 120 MW/240 MWh under the bucket-filling method, at a tariff of ₹212,000 (~$2,341.77)/MW/month.
The Bihar Electricity Regulatory Commission approved a tariff of ₹6.74 (~$0.074)/kWh for the Bihar State Power Holding Company (BSPHCL) to procure 450 MW/1,800 MWh of assured peak-hour power from SJVN’s 1,500 MW/6,000 MWh interstate transmission system(ISTS)-connected firm and dispatchable renewable energy (FDRE) projects. The Commission also approved a trading margin of ₹0.07 (~$0.001)/kWh.
IOC-GPS Renewables, an Indian Oil Corporation and GPS Renewables joint venture, invited bids to procure long-term open access solar power under the group captive model for its compressed biogas plants. The sites are located in Haryana (4), Uttar Pradesh (3), Chhattisgarh (1), and Andhra Pradesh (1). The power purchase agreement (PPA) will be valid for 25 years from the project’s commissioning date.
Lucknow Solar Power Development Corporation, a joint venture company of the Solar Energy Corporation of India and Uttar Pradesh New and Renewable Energy Development Agency, invited bids to secure a term loan of ₹300 million (~$3.31 million) from scheduled commercial banks or financial institutions. The loan proceeds will be used to meet CAPEX requirements for developing infrastructure at solar power parks in Kanpur Dehat and Kanpur Nagar, Uttar Pradesh.
Hartek Group’s Power Systems business unit secured cumulative substation and transmission infrastructure orders worth ₹7.35 billion (~$80.85 million) across the utility, independent power producer and industrial segments. The projects are spread across Jammu, Punjab, Haryana, Gujarat, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Karnataka, and Andhra Pradesh, and cover voltage levels ranging from 66 kV to 765 kV.
Battery manufacturer Amara Raja Energy and Mobility announced plans to incorporate a wholly owned subsidiary in the U.S., to be named “ARE&M US Inc.” The entity is proposed to be incorporated in three to six months and will operate in the energy and mobility segment, including battery and components distribution. The company has approved an investment of up to $5 million in the proposed subsidiary.
Government-owned power generation company SJVN’s revenue rose to ₹10.81 billion (~$119.22 million) in the third quarter (Q3) of the financial year (FY) 2026, a 61.3% year-over-year (YoY) increase from ₹6.71 billion (~$74.01 million). Revenue from solar and wind energy stood at ₹1.18 billion (~$13.01 million) for Q3 FY 2026, up 122.5% YoY from ₹530.2 million (~$5.85 million) in Q3 FY 2025. The company’s net profit increased to ₹2.24 billion (~$24.71 million), up by 50.8% from ₹1.48 billion (~$16.32 million) in the corresponding quarter last year.
