Coal India (CIL) has floated an engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) tender to set up 3,000 MW grid-connected solar projects anywhere in India on a turnkey basis.
The projects are proposed in Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Rajasthan, and Madhya Pradesh.
Bids must be submitted by September 16, 2025. Bids will be opened on the same date.
Bidders can quote for any capacity between 200 MW and 3,000 MW.
The scope of work entails the design, engineering, supply and procurement, construction, erection, testing, and commissioning of the solar projects. It also involves providing operation and maintenance services.
Selected bidders must supply solar modules, balance of systems, and obtain the land for the project. The solar projects must be designed for interconnection with nearby interstate transmission (ISTS) networks.
The projects must have a minimum capacity utilization factor of 25%.
Coal India plans to achieve up to 9.5 GW of renewable energy capacity by 2029-30. It has installed 210 MW capacity, comprising rooftop and ground-mounted projects.
During the financial year 2024-25, the company implemented a 300 MW solar project at Gujarat’s Khavda. It also commissioned 114 MW ground-mounted solar projects across its facilities. This capacity includes 20 MW in Piparwar, 4 MW in Giridih, and 20 MW at Dudga in Jharkhand, 50 MW at Patnagarh in Odisha, and 20 MW at Bishrampur. Additionally, it has commissioned 12.11 MW rooftop solar projects at its subsidiaries.
In July this year, CIL invited bids to set up an 875 MW solar power project at Rajasthan Rajya Vidyut Utpadan Nigam’s (RVUNL) 2,000 MW Solar Park at Pugal.
In May, CIL invited expressions of interest from potential buyers to purchase power at a fixed tariff from its 4.5 GW renewable energy projects, with delivery at the nearest interconnection point of the ISTS network.
