Andhra Pradesh Approves ₹1.72 Trillion Investments in Renewables and Data Centers

The Andhra Pradesh government has approved investments totaling ₹1.72 trillion (~$18.21 billion) across three renewable and data center projects at the 17th State Investment Promotion Board (SIPB) meeting chaired by Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu.

The approvals were part of 25 projects approved by the state government during the meeting, with investments totaling ₹2.01 trillion (~$21.22 billion).

Reliance Industries received approval for a data center cluster in Visakhapatnam, with an investment of ₹1.08 trillion (~$12.98 billion).

The state government said the project would include artificial intelligence, data center ecosystems, and digital infrastructure development.

The company also secured approval for a solar power project integrated with battery energy storage systems in the Sri Sathya Sai district. The project involves investments of ₹513 billion (~$5.43 billion).

Adani Group received approval for a pumped-storage hydro project in Kadapa district, with planned investments of ₹122.97 billion (~$1.31 billion).

The government said the project is intended to support grid stability and the integration of renewable energy.

The state government said the approved projects align with its focus sectors, including data centers, renewable energy, advanced manufacturing, electric vehicle ecosystems, and green hydrogen.

Recently, ReNew Energy Global announced plans to set up a 6.5 GW solar ingot-wafer manufacturing facility in Anakapalli, Andhra Pradesh, with an investment of ₹42 billion (~$443.41 million). Through this manufacturing facility, ReNew aims to enable backward integration of its solar module and cell manufacturing processes.

In January this year, the Andhra Pradesh government greenlighted renewable energy projects totaling ₹158 billion (~$1.67 billion) at the 14th SIPB meeting. The approvals for renewable energy projects were part of the ₹193.91 billion (~$2.05 billion) in investments approved at the meeting.

Earlier, the state government had announced the Andhra Pradesh Integrated Clean Energy Policy 2024 to transform the state into a global clean energy hub. The state aims to add over 160 GW of renewable energy capacity and attract approximately ₹10 trillion (~$105.57 billion) in investment by 2029.
