Adani Green Energy (AGEL) has commissioned a cumulative 3.37 GWh battery energy storage system at Khavda, Gujarat.
The battery storage system is designed to support grid reliability, peak-hour supply, and the delivery of round-the-clock renewable power. AGEL said BESS helps address variability in renewable energy generation, which changes with time, climate, season, and location, by storing surplus energy and supplying it during peak demand.
According to the company, the 3.37 GWh system can store enough energy to power nearly 1 million homes for a day and support peak electricity demand equivalent to cities such as Indore and Chandigarh, or the state of Goa.
The 3.37 GWh capacity includes 1.37 GWh commissioned in March 2026.
Adani Green Energy had also commercially operationalized 1,990 MWh of battery storage projects and a 50 MW solar project at Khavda.
The newly operationalized battery storage projects are held by Adani Renewable Energy Thirty Six, Adani Renewable Energy Thirty Seven, and Adani Renewable Energy Forty Three. Their respective battery storage capacities are 642 MWh, 1,042 MWh, and 306 MWh, for a total of 1,990 MWh.
Adani Green Energy Twenty Four holds the 50 MW solar project.
The company’s total operational renewable generation capacity has increased to 19,785.8 MW, while its total operational battery storage capacity has increased to 3,366 MWh with these additions.
The company plans to add more than 10 GWh of battery storage capacity in the 2027 financial year and scale this to 50 GWh over the next five years. It is also developing a 30 GW renewable energy project in Khavda, with 9.9 GW operational.
In April this year, Adani Green Energy Twenty Six A (AGE26AL), a wholly owned step-down subsidiary of AGEL, operationalized a 292 MW solar project in Khavda, Gujarat.
In the same month, AGEL, through its step-down subsidiaries, commissioned 360.5 MW of renewable energy projects in Bandha, Rajasthan, and Khavda, Gujarat.
