Kolkata-based solar module manufacturer Vikram Solar has signed an agreement with Avaada Electro to procure 1 GW of domestically manufactured solar cells.

Avaada Electro will supply Vikram Solar with half-cut N-type G12R tunnel oxide passivated contact solar cells. The cells will comply with the Approved List of Models and Manufacturers (ALMM) requirements.

The agreement is valued at approximately ₹12.5 billion (~$131 million). The deliveries are scheduled to begin in September 2026.

Vikram Solar said the agreement is intended to support its participation in India’s domestic content requirement market and diversify its solar cell supply chain.

The development also comes as Vikram Solar pursues backward integration into solar cell manufacturing. The company said its planned 9 GW high-efficiency solar cell manufacturing facility is scheduled to be commissioned in the fourth quarter of fiscal year 2027.

Gyanesh Chaudhary, Chairman and Managing Director, said the agreement would widen the company’s supplier base and support its DCR business.

“The next phase of India’s solar growth will be won or lost on supply chain depth, not just manufacturing scale,” Chaudhary said.

In February 2026, Vikram Solar entered into an agreement with Jupiter International to procure 2 GW of crystalline solar cells compliant with the ALMM framework.

The rush to secure solar cells comes as India’s solar industry  complies with the ALMM framework after it came into effect from June 2026.  India currently faces a solar module and cell capacity mismatch, forcing standalone manufacturers to secure cells from ALMM-listed companies.

In September 2026, Vikram Solar secured an order to supply 124 MW of modules to Capital Energy for a project in Anantapur, Andhra Pradesh.

As of the first quarter of the financial year 2027, Vikram Solar’s module manufacturing capacity stood at 15.5 GW. Its 6 GW module manufacturing facility at Gangaikondan, Tamil Nadu, began operations in June 2026, with the first module produced that month.
