Independent power producer Vedanta Power has invited expressions of interest from Indian and global engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) contractors and renewable energy solutions providers to set up 25-40 MW solar projects at its 1,200 MW thermal power plant in Sakti district, Chhattisgarh.

The last date to submit bids is February 25, 2026.

The projects will be developed under a non-equity power purchase agreement framework, comprising either a renewable energy service company model or a build-own-operate model.

The solar projects can be ground-mounted, floating, and/or rooftop.

The company intends to enhance renewable energy integration, reduce the plant’s carbon footprint, and strengthen sustainable power generation through this tender.

According to the company’s Sustainability Report FY 2025, the Vedanta Group produces 12,000 MW of thermal power. Its power generation arm, Vedanta Power, operates a 1,980 MW thermal power plant in Mansa, Punjab; Nellore, Andhra Pradesh; and Jharsuguda, Odisha, cumulating to 4,780 MW.

In FY  2025, the Vedanta Group consumed 896,742 MWh of renewable energy through direct means and 1.9 million MWh through indirect means.

In an interview with Mercom India, Vedanata Aluminium, part of the Vedanta Group, announced plans to source 1,500 MW of renewable power by 2030. The company has set a target to reach net zero by 2050.

In FY 2025, Vedanta saw a significant reduction in Scope 2 emissions compared to FY 2024, due to increased procurement of renewable energy from the grid.

Vedanta plans to meet 70% of its group company Hindustan Zinc’s power requirements through renewables by FY 2026. At the same facility, Vedanta is partnering with Serentica Renewables to develop 530 MW of solar and wind projects, supported by battery storage to deliver 450 MW of round-the-clock power. The project will ensure a 315 MW continuous supply of clean power for the company.

According to Mercom India’s  Q4 and Annual 2025 India Solar Market Update Report, India recorded its highest-ever annual solar capacity addition in the calendar year 2025, installing 36.6 GW, a 43% increase over the 25.6 GW added in 2024.
