<p>Malaysia’s 460 MW solar tender has been oversubscribed almost four times. The Energy Commission received technical bids from 116 bidders totaling 1,632 MW.</p>
<p>The solar projects will be developed in Peninsular Malaysia and the Sabah/Labuan region. In Peninsular Malaysia, developers bid for project sizes in the range of 1 MW to 30 MW, and in the Sabah/Labuan region, bids were for projects in the range of 1 MW to 10 MW.</p>
<p>The tariffs quoted ranges between a high of RM 0.5300 (~$0.12) and a low of RM 0.3398 (~$0.08). The lowest price quoted was for a 30 MW solar project.</p>
<p>Mercom’s source at Suruhanjaya Tenaga said, “Most of the low bidders are companies who were successful in the March 2016 tender; they are the ones driving this tender.” The projects must be linked to the grid by end of FY 2019-20, added the source. The names of bidders were not <a href="http://www.st.gov.my/images/article/industry/2017/LSS/Large_Scale_Solar_LSS_Photovoltaic_Plant_for_2019-2020_-_Opening_Bid_Price_v1.pdf" target="_blank" rel="noopener">disclosed</a>.</p>
