					</table><p>Hydrogen fuel cell manufacturer <a href="https://umagine.co.in/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Umagine Hydrogen</a> has secured $850,000 (~₹74.78 million) funding in a seed round from <a href="https://venturecatalysts.in/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Venture Catalysts</a>.</p>
<p>Apart from Venture Catalysts, the funding saw participation from <a href="https://www.faad.in/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Faad Networks</a>.</p>
<p>The funding will be utilized to build a gigawatt-scale factory dedicated to hydrogen fuel cells.</p>
<p>Umagine also aims to replace diesel generators across telecom towers, data-centers, remote micro-grids, and defense outposts, and provide long-duration energy storage solutions.</p>
<p>Santosh Gurunath, CEO and Co-Founder at Umagine Hydrogen, stated that the company will intensify its efforts to deploy hydrogen fuel cells across various applications, aiming to render diesel generators obsolete within a few years.</p>
<p>Umagine Hydrogen designs and manufactures fuel cell systems ranging from sub-kilowatt modules for defense equipment to multi-megawatt blocks for grid-scale, long-duration storage.</p>
<p>Apoorva Ranjan Sharma, Co-founder at Venture Catalysts, said that Umagine Hydrogen’s 100% indigenous technology converts green hydrogen into electricity while emitting nothing but water, giving businesses the reliability of diesel without the carbon, the noise, or the particulate pollution.</p>
<p>Umagine Hydrogen’s proprietary system architecture allows customers to integrate hydrogen, battery, and solar assets in a plug-and-play fashion, slashing installation times and total cost of ownership.</p>
<p>In July 2025, the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) <a href="https://www.mercomindia.com/mnre-invites-second-round-of-rd-proposals-under-green-hydrogen-mission" target="_blank" rel="noopener">issued</a> the second call for Research and Development (R&amp;D) proposals under the National Green Hydrogen Mission. The R&amp;D program aims to accelerate the development of indigenous and cost-effective green hydrogen technologies across the production, storage, transportation, and utilization segments.</p>
<p>Earlier this year, the government of India <a href="https://www.mercomindia.com/government-launches-pilot-project-for-hydrogen-fueled-buses-and-trucks" target="_blank" rel="noopener">launched</a> five pilot projects under the National Green Hydrogen Mission to introduce hydrogen-fueled buses and trucks. These projects involve 37 hydrogen-powered vehicles and nine hydrogen refueling stations. The vehicles comprise 15 hydrogen fuel cell-based vehicles and 22 hydrogen internal combustion engine-based vehicles.</p>

					</table><p>Bengaluru-based climate tech startup <a href="https://www.newtrace.io/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Newtrace</a>, which builds electrolyzers, has raised $5.65 million in a seed round led by<a href="https://www.sequoiacap.com/india/" target="_blank" rel="noopener"> Sequoia Capital India</a> and <a href="https://aavishkaarcapital.in/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Aavishkaar Capital</a>.</p>
<p>The round also saw the participation from investors <a href="https://www.specialeinvest.com/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Speciale Invest</a> and <a href="https://micelio.com/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Micelio Fund</a> along with Ashish Goel, Founder-CEO of <a href="https://www.urbanladder.com/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Urban Ladder</a> and <a href="https://www.ikpknowledgepark.com/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">IKP Knowledge Park</a>.</p>
<p>The funds will be used to expand Newtrace&#8217;s electrolyzer manufacturing and deployment capabilities.</p>
<p>&#8220;We are thrilled to secure this round of funding, which will enable us to scale our operations and meet the growing demand for our innovative electrolyzers,&#8221; said Prasanta Sarkar, CEO and co-founder, Newtrace.</p>
<p>&#8220;With this investment, we can further accelerate the global transition to green hydrogen, making sustainability an industry-scale mindset,&#8221; he added.</p>
<p>Founded in 2021, Newtrace develops and manufactures electrolyzers to reduce the cost of green hydrogen production by over 60%.</p>
<p>The company claims it reduces the green hydrogen production cost by combining its pioneering fluid engineering technology with an enhanced electrocatalyst that utilizes no rare earth metals. Its use of advanced manufacturing and a real-time analytics platform makes its electrolyzers a lucrative option for quick deployment and integration across industries.</p>
<p>Newtrace aims to deploy its electrolyzers to refineries, fertilizers, chemicals, steel and cement, and transportation sectors. It is also looking to expand its solution into providing technology for long-term storage and converting green hydrogen and ammonia.</p>
<p>The green hydrogen pathway can be a crucial enabler for India&#8217;s aspirations of building a low-carbon and self-reliant economy. The government <a href="https://www.mercomindia.com/cabinet-approves-%e2%82%b9197-billion-hydrogen-mission" target="_blank" rel="noopener">launched</a> the Green Hydrogen Mission in January this year and allocated ₹197.44 billion (~$2.3 billion) for capacity development.</p>
<p>Union Minister of Renewable Energy and Power R. K. Singh <a href="https://www.mercomindia.com/green-hydrogen-india-save-%e2%82%b91-trillion-fuel-imports-2030" target="_blank" rel="noopener">informed</a> the Rajya Sabha that the government aims to reduce a total of ₹1 trillion (~$12 billion) worth of fossil fuel imports by 2030, following the targets set under the National Green Hydrogen mission.</p>
<p>Earlier this year, Singh <a href="https://mercomindia.com/green-hydrogen-governments-renewable-plans/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">said</a> green hydrogen will play a central role in the country&#8217;s target to reach 500 GW of non-fossil capacity by 2030 and in developing energy storage solutions that could potentially replace lithium-ion-based batteries.</p>


Climate Tech Startup Newtrace Raises $5.65 Million in Seed Round

					</table><p><a href="https://www.cleanelectric.in/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Clean Electric</a> raised $2.2 million in a seed round led by a Bengaluru-based early-stage venture capital firm <a href="https://www.kalaari.com/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Kalaari Capital</a>, to produce 5,000 electric vehicles (EV) battery packs monthly from a proposed manufacturing facility in Pune.</p>
<p>The other participants in the round involved Climate Angels, LV Fund, 7Square Ventures, and CIIE Regional Innovation Foundation.</p>
<p>Clean Electric said it would direct the funds raised to study safety and performance issues like EV fires,  long charging times, and frequent battery replacement.</p>
<p>A part of the funds will be used to develop improved products related to fast charging, renewable energy storage, battery swapping technology, and research and development.</p>
<p>Clean Electric said its new production line of battery packs is aligned with the guidelines of the AIS-156 Phase-II EV battery testing standard, which the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways said would be <a href="https://mercomindia.com/implementation-of-revisions-to-ev-battery-testing-standards-postponed/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">implemented</a> from March 2023. The new products will likely be ready for certification tests before the year-end.</p>
<p>In September, the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways <a href="https://mercomindia.com/electric-vehicle-battery-standards-enhanced-safety/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">issued</a> amendments providing for additional safety requirements related to battery cells, battery management systems, onboard chargers, battery pack design, and thermal propagation due to internal cell short circuits leading to fires.</p>
<p>Founded in 2020, Clean Electric manufactures liquid-cooled battery solutions for two and three-wheelers. It manufactures, designs, develops, markets, supplies, and provides after-sales of advanced energy storage solutions for mobility and stationary storage applications and related energy infrastructure and services.</p>
<p>Co-Founder and CTO at Clean Electric Abhinav Roy said, “Our aim is to enable mankind’s shift from fossil fuels, and batteries have been the hardest part of this transformation. By providing dependable, safe, and performant Energy Storage Solutions, we believe we can add immense value to the EV and RE ecosystems.”</p>
