Sion Power Corporation, a developer of batteries for electric vehicles, <a href="https://cms.mercomindia.com/sion-power-raises-75-million-in-series-a-funding/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">secured</a> $75 million in Series A funding. The round was led by LG Energy Solution (the investment to be executed through LG Technology Ventures and Bricks Capital Management) and repeat participation from mathematician Jim Simons’ Euclidean Capital. Sion Power will use this new capital for technical and market validation of its technology.
Switzerland-based responsAbility, an impact-investment firm with over $4.7 billion in assets under management, said it would <a href="https://www.mercomindia.com/responsability-injects-25-million-blusmart" target="_blank" rel="noopener">invest</a> up to $25 million in BluSmart, an electric vehicle (EV) ride-hailing service in India. The investment, part of responsAbility’s broader $500 million climate strategy aimed at reducing carbon emissions in Asia through investments in low-emission technologies, will help BluSmart expand its EV charging infrastructure to enable large-scale adoption of electric mobility.
Non-banking financial company Ecofy has <a href="https://www.mercomindia.com/solar-ev-financing-firm-ecofy-secures-900-million" target="_blank" rel="noopener">secured</a> an investment of ₹900 million (~$10.83 million) from FMO, a Dutch entrepreneurial development bank, to facilitate product diversification and support its expansion across India. The company provides loans to electric vehicles, rooftop solar projects, and small and medium enterprises providing E2E digital experience. The investment will be divided into two equal tranches.
Trilantic Europe, a European private equity firm, has <a href="https://www.trilanticeurope.com/news/trilantic-europe-acquires-stake-in-aerocompact-group.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">announced</a> the acquisition of a 60% stake in AEROCOMPACT Group, a provider of solar mounting solutions for photovoltaic modules. The deal, which is subject to approval by the relevant authorities, will enable AEROCOMPACT to accelerate its international expansion. The company has a global presence with subsidiaries in Austria, Germany, the US, India, and Bulgaria.
China-based robotic solar module cleaning solutions firm Sunpure <a href="https://www.mercomindia.com/robotic-solar-module-million-in-series-a-funding" target="_blank" rel="noopener">announced</a> that it has completed its Series A funding round of ¥100 million (~$676,221) led by Hengxu Capital. The funds raised in this round will be directed towards the research and development of intelligent robots for solar projects, as well as the optimization and upgrading of comprehensive cleaning solutions across various scenarios.

<a href="https://monta.com/uk/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Monta</a>, an EV charging solutions provider, announced the close of an €80 million (~$87 million) Series B financing round, bringing the company’s total funding to €130 million (~$142 million) in three years.
Energize Capital co-led the round with GreenPoint Partners and Denmark’s state-backed Export and Investment Fund. The Series B also included participation from returning investors Headline, byFounders, AENU, Creandum, and new investor Quantum Light.
Monta will leverage this investment to strengthen product R&amp;D, expanding its partner network across all markets.
Monta’s platform assists hardware manufacturers in optimizing their products by enabling them to benchmark charge point brands, provide insights into usage and performance, and speed up troubleshooting and maintenance time.

According to Mercom’s recently released Annual and Q4 2023 Funding and M&amp;A <a href="https://cms.mercomindia.com/product/annual-q4-2023-funding-ma-report-storage-grid/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Report</a> for Storage &amp; Smart Grid. VC funding in the Smart Grid sector decreased 55% YoY, with $1.5 billion in 47 deals in 2023 compared to $3.3 billion in 46 deals in 2022.
Recently, Monterra, an electric vehicle (EV) charging software company, <a href="https://cms.mercomindia.com/ev-charging-tech-firm-monterra-raises/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">secured</a> $2.5 million in a pre-seed funding round led by Base10 Partners, and with participation from Future Climate Venture Studio, Very Serious Ventures, and a handful of other angel investors, including some of Monterra’s early customers.

EV charging platform Monta Secures $87 Million Series B Funding

<a href="https://monta.com/uk/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Monta</a>, an EV charging management platform, secured €30 million (~$30 million) at a €155 million (~$155 million) valuation as a part of the Series A+ funding round led by Energize Ventures with participation from returning investors Creandum, Pale Blue Dot, byFounders, and Headline.
The company intends to use the investment to expand to North America.
For EV drivers, Monta offers reservation, virtual queuing, and payment features under one platform and access to public charge points. They have partnered with hardware manufacturers to launch their Powered by Monta (PBM) program in multiple markets.
Monta expects to broaden its product development to include grid management services to combat the challenges that occur as more EVs hit the roads.
Ultimately, the company expects to facilitate the sale of excess power back to the grid (V2G), manage interoperability with other zero-carbon technologies (V2H, V2X), and aid in creating local energy markets.
In 2021 European EV sales <a href="https://www.iea.org/reports/global-ev-outlook-2022/trends-in-electric-light-duty-vehicles" target="_blank" rel="noopener">increased</a> by more than 65% compared to 2020, but the lack of EV charging infrastructure is still one of the biggest hurdles to mass adoption. Not only do nearly 3,000 new public charge points need to be built each week for Europe to reach its target of operating one million charge points by 2025.
“We are aiming to fully digitalize the EV ecosystem to tackle all the immediate challenges within the industry and build toward a more transparent and flexible future. By partnering with hardware OEMs we can deliver new features straight out of the box, like our new feature that allows operators to set a percentage on top of the spot price in order to follow the market fluctuations and automatically offer a fair price for charging,” says Casper Rasmussen, Monta CEO. “The investment from Energize and our returning investors is a strong vote of confidence in our vision, team, and software as the cornerstone of the mobility infrastructure of the future.”
The latest financing brings Monta’s total to €50 million (~$50 million).
“The market penetration of electric vehicles is climbing sharply as economic, regulatory, and climate levers accelerate EV adoption – and deployment of charging infrastructure has to keep pace. We expect more than 1.6 million public chargers and 20 million private charging stations to be deployed in the U.S. and Europe by 2025,” said Juan Muldoon, Partner at Energize Ventures.
According to Mercom’s 1H and Q2 2022 Funding and M&amp;A <a href="https://cms.mercomindia.com/product/1h-q2-2022-funding-ma-report-for-storage-grid-efficiency/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Report</a> for Storage, Grid &amp; Efficiency, VC funding in Smart Grid companies in 1H 2022 was 58% higher with $731 million compared to the $463 million raised in 1H 2021. Earlier this year, ChargePoint, a provider of an open electric vehicle charging network, <a href="https://cms.mercomindia.com/chargepoint-raises-300-million-financing/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">announced</a> that Antara Capital would invest $300 million in the company by purchasing convertible senior notes to accelerate the company’s growth.
