					</table><p>Tata Power Solar, Roofsol Energy, Mahindra Solarize, Gentari (formerly Amplus Solar), and Kalpa Power <a href="https://www.mercomindia.com/tata-power-solar-roofsol-mahindra-solarize-lead-indias-rooftop-solar-market-in-2024" target="_blank" rel="noopener">emerged</a> as the top rooftop solar installers in India in 2024, according to Mercom India’s India Solar Market Leaderboard 2025. Together, these five companies accounted for nearly 30% of the total rooftop solar market. India added 3.2 GW of rooftop solar capacity in 2024, marking an 86% increase from 1.7 GW in 2023, as per Mercom India’s 2024 Q4 &amp; Annual Mercom India Rooftop Solar Market Report.</p>
<p>Multi Infrastructure and Engineering (MIEPL) <a href="https://www.mercomindia.com/multi-infra-wins-cels-auction-to-set-up-200-mw-solar-module-facility" target="_blank" rel="noopener">won</a> Central Electronics’ (CEL) auction for setting up a 200 MW solar module manufacturing facility in Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh. CEL floated the tender in April this year. MEIPL must implement the project on a revenue-sharing model under the Make in India initiative. The company said the proposed facility is expected to bolster the production of solar modules within the country, reduce import dependency, and contribute to India’s clean energy transition. MEIPL is an engineering, procurement, and construction company working on railway general electrification, gas pipelines, water pipelines, and electrical substations and lines.</p>
<p>The increasing integration of renewable energy <a href="https://www.mercomindia.com/operators-struggle-to-balance-solar-with-thermal-power-as-grid-woes-rise" target="_blank" rel="noopener">continues</a> to stress India’s electricity grid, causing repeated frequency fluctuations. The grid has seen persistent high frequency above the ceiling on 39 days in the third and fourth quarters of the financial year 2024-25, triggering concerns among grid operators and regulators. The frequency was above the Indian Electricity Grid Code band of 49.90-50.05 Hz for over 20% of the time on these days during the two quarters. The high-frequency periods were attributed to increased levels of solar power injection and the limited flexibility to reduce thermal generation to accommodate renewable energy production. On certain days, the down reserves during solar hours were completely depleted.</p>
<p>Hydrogen fuel cell solutions provider Plug Power <a href="https://www.mercomindia.com/plug-power-q1-revenue-up-11-yoy" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reported</a> a revenue of $133.67 million in the first quarter of 2025, an 11% year-over-year increase compared to $120.26 million. This growth was driven by rising demand for electrolyzers, consistent material handling activity, and continued deployment within its cryogenic platform. The revenue exceeded analysts’ expectations by $1.88 million. The company’s net loss fell to $196.65 million from a net loss of $295.77 million in the corresponding period last year. Its loss per share came in at $0.21, missing the analysts’ estimate by $0.02.</p>

					</table><p>Multi Infrastructure and Engineering (<a href="http://www.miepl.ind.in/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">MIEPL</a>) has won Central Electronics’ (<a href="https://www.celindia.co.in/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">CEL</a>) auction for setting up a 200 MW solar module manufacturing facility in Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh.</p>
<p>CEL <a href="https://www.mercomindia.com/central-electronics-invites-bids-for-200-mw-solar-module-plant" target="_blank" rel="noopener">floated</a> the tender in April this year.</p>
<p>MEIPL must implement the project on a revenue-sharing model under the Make in India initiative.</p>

<p>In February 2025, Central Electronics <a href="https://www.mercomindia.com/central-electronics-issues-eoi-for-operating-40-mw-solar-module-plant" target="_blank" rel="noopener">invited</a> expressions of interest to run an existing 40 MW automated solar module manufacturing plant in Uttar Pradesh. The scope of work covered manufacturing, operation, maintenance, marketing, and the sale of solar modules. The solar PV manufacturing facility has a storage facility for approximately 12 MW solar modules. The company has also installed multiple solar power projects, having a total capacity of around 1.5 MW.</p>
<p>India <a href="https://www.mercomindia.com/almm-strong-demand-drive-indias-solar-panel-manufacturing-capacity-to-25-3-gw-in-2024" target="_blank" rel="noopener">added</a> 25.3 GW of solar module capacity and 11.6 GW of solar cell capacity in 2024, according to Mercom’s State of Solar PV Manufacturing in India 2025 report. The capacity additions were driven by demand from the solar project pipeline and the reimposition of the Approved List of Models and Manufacturers order from April 2024.</p>
<p>Gujarat was the most preferred location for installing solar manufacturing facilities, with 42% of the country’s module capacities located in the state. The state accounted for over 37% of India’s annual solar cell production capacity.</p>

The project’s cumulative capacity includes 2,900 kW rooftop, 1,000 kW ground-mounted, and 225 kW elevated structure systems. MIEPL must use modules from the Approved List of Models and Manufacturers.</p>
<p>The Telangana Electricity Regulatory Commission <a href="https://www.mercomindia.com/telangana-approves-procurement-of-4-gw-solar-power-under-pm-kusum" target="_blank" rel="noopener">approved</a> the procurement of 4,000 MW of solar power and the associated power purchase agreements from projects under Component-A of the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Urja Suraksha evam Utthaan Mahabhiyan (PM-KUSUM). The case stemmed from the Southern and Northern Power Distribution Company of Telangana filing a petition seeking approval to procure 4,000 MW of solar power under Component-A of the PM-KUSUM program for 25 years.</p>
<p>The Tamil Nadu Electricity Regulatory Commission <a href="https://www.mercomindia.com/tnerc-approves-%E2%82%B90-10-additional-surcharge-for-open-access-power-consumers" target="_blank" rel="noopener">approved</a> an additional surcharge of ₹0.10 (~$0.00117)/kWh for open access consumers procuring power from sources other than the Tamil Nadu Power Distribution Corporation (TNPDCL), including third-party sellers and power exchanges. Effective from April 1, 2025, to September 30, 2025, the surcharge applies to the actual energy drawn and aims to address TNPDCL’s stranded capacity and recover its fixed costs.</p>
<p>Mahasamruddhi Renewable Energy, a special-purpose vehicle of the Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation, <a href="https://www.mercomindia.com/mahasamruddhi-invites-bids-for-purchase-of-164-mw-solar-power" target="_blank" rel="noopener">invited</a> bids for the long-term purchase of 164 MW of solar power under open access from its projects along a highway connecting Mumbai and Nagpur. Bids must be submitted by May 23, 2025. Bids will be opened on May 26. The scope of work includes purchasing power from MREL’s solar projects under long-term open access, managing all associated formalities and charges, and adhering to the PPA terms.</p>
<p>The Jharkhand Renewable Energy Development Agency <a href="https://www.mercomindia.com/jharkhand-issues-rate-contract-tender-for-om-of-3-9-mw-solar-projects" target="_blank" rel="noopener">invited</a> bids for rate contracts to select agencies for the comprehensive operation and maintenance of a cumulative 3.9 MW of rooftop solar power projects for five years. The last date to submit bids is May 14, 2025.  Bids will be opened on May 16. The scope of work comprises the operation and maintenance of 297 solar systems for five years. It also includes a five-year servicing and replacement guarantee for parts and components such as batteries, electronics, inverters, solar modules, and other hardware. The batteries must be warranted for at least five years.</p>
<p>Electric two-wheeler company Ather Energy’s ₹31 billion (~$363.92 million) initial public offering (IPO) was <a href="https://www.mercomindia.com/ather-energys-%E2%82%B931-billion-ipo-oversubscribed-by-1-43-times" target="_blank" rel="noopener">oversubscribed</a> 1.43 times at the end of the bidding window on April 30, 2025. The price band was set at ₹304-₹321 (~$3.56-$3.76) per equity share. The IPO saw bids for shares exceeding the shares on offer. It had an issue size of 53.36 million shares. Retail investors led the demand, with a subscription rate of 1.78, followed by qualified institutional buyers at 1.7. The non-institutional investors’ portion was subscribed 0.66 times, and the employees’ portion 5.43 times.</p>
<p>Japan-based multinational electronics manufacturer Panasonic <a href="https://www.mercomindia.com/panasonic-exits-solar-and-battery-storage-business" target="_blank" rel="noopener">discontinued</a> its solar and battery storage business. “We have made the decision to discontinue our solar and battery storage business line. This change allows us to focus on areas where we can have the greatest strategic impact,” Panasonic said on its website. Despite this closure, the company has emphasized its commitment to a smooth transition, assuring continued customer support for existing and future installations.</p>
<p>U.S.-based solar module manufacturer First Solar <a href="https://www.mercomindia.com/first-solar-misses-eps-expectations-in-q1" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reported</a> a revenue of $844.57 million in the first quarter of 2025, a 6.4% year-over-year increase from $794.11 million. The revenue was in line with analysts’ expectations. The decrease in revenue was primarily due to an anticipated seasonal reduction in the volume of modules sold. The company lowered its sales guidance for the remainder of 2025 due to new tariffs and ongoing policy uncertainties. Its earnings per share came in at $1.95 compared to $2.20 in the same quarter the previous year. The EPS missed expectations by $0.52.</p>

<p>The tender was <a href="https://www.mercomindia.com/seci-floats-tender-for-4-12-mw-solar-power-projects-in-iit-kharagpur" target="_blank" rel="noopener">floated</a> in December 2024. MIEPL must complete the project in 270 days.</p>
<p>The project’s cumulative capacity includes 2,900 kW rooftop, 1,000 kW ground-mounted, and 225 kW elevated structure systems.</p>
<p>MIEPL must use modules from the Approved List of Models and Manufacturers.</p>
<p>The company will set up grid-connected rooftop solar systems consisting of solar arrays, module mounting structures, power conditioning units with maximum power point trackers, inverters, controls, protections, interconnect cables, junction boxes, distribution boxes, and switches.</p>
<p>It will install the solar systems without a battery. MIEPL will also provide operation and maintenance for 25 years.</p>
<p>Solar modules used in grid-connected solar systems must have a minimum peak output wattage of 90% at the end of 10 years and 80% at the end of 25 years.</p>
<p>Each solar module must use a radio-frequency identification tag. In case of an energy supply shortfall, MIEPL will be levied liquidated damages at 50% of the tariff.</p>
<p>SECI had also mandated using commercially established and operational technologies to minimize technology risks and achieve timely project commissioning.</p>
<p>Recently, SECI <a href="https://www.mercomindia.com/seci-tenders-6-25-mw-rooftop-solar-projects-in-six-states" target="_blank" rel="noopener">issued</a> a request for selection to develop grid-connected rooftop solar projects with a cumulative capacity of 6.25 MW. These projects will be implemented on a build-own-operate basis.</p>
<p>SECI also <a href="https://www.mercomindia.com/seci-floats-tenders-for-4-55-mw-rooftop-solar-projects-in-five-states" target="_blank" rel="noopener">invited</a> bids for the engineering, procurement, and construction of 4.55 MW of grid-connected rooftop solar projects at multiple educational institutions across Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Sikkim, Assam, and Manipur.</p>
<p>In March this year, the Central Electricity Regulatory Commission <a href="https://www.mercomindia.com/central-commission-approves-tariff-for-secis-1-2-gw-solar-projects" target="_blank" rel="noopener">approved</a> SECI’s petition to adopt a tariff for 1,200 MW interstate transmission system connected solar projects with 600 MW/1,200 MWh energy storage systems. The approved tariff ranges between ₹3.41(~$0.039)/kWh and ₹3.42(~$0.04)/kWh.</p>
