					</table><p>Electric vehicle (EV) sales in India reached 560,637 units in the third quarter (Q3) of 2025, an over 12.5% year-over-year (YoY) increase from 497,974 units.</p>
<p>EVs accounted for 8% of the overall automobile sales, which totaled 5,796,216 units in Q3, according to data released by the <a href="https://morth.nic.in/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Ministry of Road Transport and Highways</a> through its <a href="https://vahan.parivahan.gov.in/vahan4dashboard/vahan/dashboardview.xhtml" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Vahan Dashboard</a>.</p>
<p>India now has over 7.02 million registered EVs.</p>
<p><strong>Electric Two-Wheelers</strong></p>
<p>Electric two-wheelers comprised nearly 56% (312,681) of the total EVs sold during the quarter.</p>
<p><a href="https://www.tvsmotor.com/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">TVS</a> led the segment with sales of 69,214 units, followed by <a href="https://www.atherenergy.com/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Ather</a> with 52,620, and <a href="https://www.bajajauto.com/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Bajaj Auto</a> with 51,161 units. <a href="https://www.olaelectric.com/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Ola</a> (50,287) and <a href="https://www.heromotocorp.com/en-in.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Hero Motocorp </a>(36,663) were among the other companies that registered significant sales.</p>
<p><strong>Electric Three-Wheelers</strong></p>
<p>Electric three-wheelers constituted 34.5% (193,633) of all EVs sold in Q3.</p>
<p><a href="https://mahindralastmilemobility.com/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Mahindra Last Mile Mobility</a> led this category, selling 26,854 units, followed by <a href="https://www.bajajauto.com/three-wheelers/ev-re" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Bajaj Auto</a> (20,705),  <a href="https://www.ycevehicles.com/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">YC Electric</a> (10,265),  <a href="https://www.saeraauto.com/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Saera Electric Auto</a> (6,006), and <a href="https://www.citylifeev.com/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Dilli Electric Auto</a> (5,270).</p>
<p>The Ministry of Heavy Industries (MHI) recently <a href="https://www.mercomindia.com/government-modifies-pm-e-drive-incentives-for-electric-three-wheelers/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">modified</a> the incentives for electric three-wheelers (e-3W) under the PM Electric Drive Revolution in Innovative Vehicle Enhancement (PM E-DRIVE) program.</p>
<p>Incentives for e-3W registered under the L5 category have been reduced to ₹2,500 (~$28.56)/kWh, capped at ₹25,000 (~$285.59) per vehicle for those registered on the government’s Vahan portal from November 8, 2024, to March 31, 2026. The number of such vehicles supported under the program during this period has been increased to 208,263.</p>
<p>The earlier incentive, for vehicles registered on the portal from April 1, 2024, to November 7, 2024, was ₹5,000 (~$57.12)/kWh, capped at ₹50,000 (~$571.17) per vehicle. The number of supported vehicles during this period was 80,546.</p>
<p>The highest vehicle ex-factory price to qualify for the incentives is ₹500,000 (~$5,711.74). The total incentive outlay will come up to ₹8.57 billion (~$97.9 million).</p>
<p><strong>Electric Four-Wheelers</strong></p>
<p>Electric four-wheelers accounted for 8.5% of the total sales of 48,166 units.</p>
<p><a href="https://www.tatamotors.com/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Tata Motors</a> remained the most preferred electric four-wheeler automobile maker, with 18,854 units sold. <a href="https://www.mgmotor.co.in/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">MG Motor</a>  (14,123),  <a href="https://www.mahindra.com/our-business/automotive" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Mahindra &amp; Mahindra</a> (9,254), <a href="https://www.hyundai.com/in/en" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Hyundai</a> (1,588), and <a href="https://bydautoindia.com/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">BYD India</a> (1,401) were among the other top performers.</p>
<p>EV sales in India <a href="https://www.mercomindia.com/electric-vehicle-sales-clock-34-yoy-growth-in-q2-2025/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reached</a> 530,386 units in the second quarter of 2025, an over 34% YoY increase from 396,719 units.</p>

<p>EVs accounted for 3.6% of overall automobile sales, according to data released by the <a href="https://morth.nic.in/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Ministry of Road Transport and Highways</a> through its <a href="https://vahan.parivahan.gov.in/vahan4dashboard/vahan/dashboardview.xhtml" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Vahan Dashboard</a>.</p>
<p>The EV market consistently surpassed the 100,000-unit mark every month, with October registering the highest sales at 219,527 units, followed by March with 213,068 units and November with 192,681 units.</p>
<p>Uttar Pradesh had the highest number of EVs sold, with 368,718 vehicles, followed by Maharashtra with 241,930 and Karnataka with 178,867.</p>
<p>India now has over 5.39 million registered EVs.</p>
<p><strong>Electric two-wheelers</strong></p>
<p>Electric two-wheelers accounted for nearly 59% (1.15 million) of total EVs sold in 2024. <a href="https://www.olaelectric.com/experience-centre-visit-registration?utm_source=google&amp;utm_medium=cpc_search&amp;utm_campaign=Brand-Top-cities-ola-test-ride&amp;gad_source=1&amp;gclid=Cj0KCQiAhc-sBhCEARIsAOVwHuTgMIs6kH_Xjc13dhtee2m14FCz6So6bcbJr8rE2hvqoVe4DSopMLQaApFjEALw_wcB" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Ola Electric</a> once again led the segment with the highest sales at 407,553 units, followed by <a href="https://www.tvsmotor.com/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">TVS Motor Company</a> (220,512), <a href="https://www.bajajauto.com/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Bajaj Auto</a> (193,460), <a href="https://www.atherenergy.com/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Ather Energy</a> (126,173), and <a href="https://www.heromotocorp.com/en-in.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Hero Motocorp</a> (43,696).</p>
<p><strong>Electric three-wheelers</strong></p>
<p>Electric three-wheelers constituted 35% (691,302) of all EVs sold in 2024. <a href="https://mahindralastmilemobility.com/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Mahindra Last Mile Mobility</a> sold 66,509 units, the most in this category, followed by <a href="https://www.ycevehicles.com/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">YC Electric Vehicle </a> (43,977), <a href="https://www.bajajauto.com/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Bajaj Auto</a> (41,915), <a href="https://www.saeraauto.com/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Saera Electric Auto</a> (28,293), and <a href="https://www.citylifeev.com/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Dilli Electric Auto</a> (25,043).</p>
<p><strong>Electric four-wheelers</strong></p>
<p>Electric four-wheelers represented 5% of the total sales at 89,765 units in 2024. <a href="https://www.tatamotors.com/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Tata Motors</a> led the segment again, selling 54,875 units, followed by <a href="https://www.mgmotor.co.in/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">MG Motors</a> selling 20,498 units. Other significant electric four-wheeler companies in the market include <a href="https://www.mahindra.com/our-business/automotive" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Mahindra</a> (6,583), <a href="https://bydautoindia.com/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">BYD</a> (2,661), and <a href="https://www.bmw.com/en/index.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">BMW</a> (1,169).</p>
<p>The Union Cabinet <a href="https://mercomindia.com/cabinet-pm-edrive-program" target="_blank" rel="noopener">approved</a> the ‘PM Electric Drive Revolution in Innovative Vehicle Enhancement (PM E-DRIVE) Program’ in September 2024. The PM E-DRIVE Program, with a total outlay of ₹109 billion (~$1.29 billion), focuses on providing demand incentives, deploying EVs, and developing charging infrastructure to support wider EV adoption.</p>
<p>The program allocates ₹36.79 billion ($438.1 million) in subsidies to promote electric two-wheelers (e-2Ws), three-wheelers (e-3Ws), e-ambulances, e-trucks, and e-buses. Specifically, it aims to support the deployment of 2.479 million e-2Ws, 316,000 e-3Ws, and 14,028 e-buses.</p>
<p>In March 2024, the Ministry of Heavy Industries <a href="https://www.mercomindia.com/government-5-billion-program-electric-mobility" target="_blank" rel="noopener">launched</a> the Electric Mobility Promotion Program 2024 with a funding of ₹5 billion (~$60.34 million). The program was scheduled from April 1, 2024, to July 31, 2024, targeting electric two-wheelers and three-wheelers, including e-rickshaws, e-carts, and L5 category vehicles. The program plans to support 372,215 EVs, which include 333,387 e-2Ws and 38,828 EV e-3Ws.</p>

<p>The EV market consistently exceeded the 100,000-unit threshold each month during the quarter, and March witnessed the highest-ever monthly sales figure of 204,337 units.</p>
<p>EVs account for 7.9% of overall automobile sales, which totaled 6,157,070 units in Q1 2024, according to data released by the <a href="https://morth.nic.in/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Ministry of Road Transport and Highways</a> through its <a href="https://vahan.parivahan.gov.in/vahan4dashboard/vahan/dashboardview.xhtml" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Vahan Dashboard</a>. The numbers do not include data for Telangana and Lakshadweep.</p>
<p>India now has over 3.95 million registered EVs.</p>
<p><strong>Electric two-wheelers</strong></p>
<p>Electric two-wheelers accounted for nearly 62% (301,010) of total EVs sold in Q1 2024.</p>
<p><a href="https://www.olaelectric.com/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Ola</a> once again led the segment with the highest sales at  116,810, followed by <a href="https://www.tvsmotor.com/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">TVS</a>  (56,412), <a href="https://www.bajajauto.com/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Bajaj Auto</a> (40,530), <a href="https://www.atherenergy.com/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Ather</a> (35,627), and <a href="https://greaveselectricmobility.com/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Greaves Electric</a> (7,852).</p>
<p><strong>Electric three-wheelers</strong></p>
<p>Electric three-wheelers constituted 33% (164,696) of all EVs sold in Q1 2024.</p>
<p><a href="https://mahindralastmilemobility.com/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Mahindra Last Mile Mobility</a> emerged as the leader in this category, achieving the highest sales with 16,136 units sold, followed by <a href="https://www.ycevehicles.com/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">YC Electric</a> (10,052), <a href="https://piaggio-cv.co.in/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Piaggio Vehicles</a> (7,424), <a href="https://www.saeraauto.com/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Saera Electric Auto</a> (6,640), and <a href="https://www.bajajauto.com/three-wheelers/ev-re" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Bajaj Auto</a> (6,312).</p>
<p><strong>Electric four-wheelers</strong></p>
<p>Electric four-wheelers represented 4% of the total sales at 20,963 units in Q1 2024.</p>
<p><a href="https://www.tatamotors.com/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Tata Motors</a> was once again the most preferred electric four-wheeler automobile maker, with 14,075 units sold. <a href="https://www.mgmotor.co.in/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">MG Motor</a> (3,215), <a href="https://www.mahindra.com/our-business/automotive" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Mahindra &amp; Mahindra</a> (1,982), <a href="https://www.hyundai.com/in/en" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Hyundai</a> (436), and <a href="https://bydautoindia.com/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">BYD India</a> (350) were the other major players.</p>
<p>Phase II of the Faster Adoption and Manufacturing of Electric and Hybrid Vehicles (FAME) program ended on March 31, 2024.</p>
<p>Earlier this year, the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Industry <a href="https://www.mercomindia.com/parliament-panel-extension-fame-program-2027" target="_blank" rel="noopener">recommended</a> that the government extend Phase II of the FAME program for at least three years beyond March 31, 2024, to make EVs a norm in the Indian automobile market.</p>
