					</table><p>India’s first green hydrogen project in the stainless steel sector was inaugurated by Union Minister for Steel Jyotiraditya Scindia at <a href="https://www.jindalstainless.com/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Jindal Stainless</a> in Hisar, Haryana.</p>
<p>The green hydrogen plant was set up by <a href="https://www.hygenco.in/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Hygenco Green Energies</a> for Jindal Stainless, an OP Jindal Group company.</p>
<p>Claimed to be the world’s first off-grid green hydrogen plant for the stainless steel industry and the world’s first green hydrogen plant with rooftop and floating solar, the facility aims to reduce carbon emissions by around 2,700 metric tons per annum and 54,000 tons of CO<sub>2</sub> emissions over the next two decades.</p>
<p>“The project not only aligns with the government&#8217;s vision but also creates valuable employment opportunities, showcasing the potential of responsible industrial practices,” Scindia said.</p>
<p>The minister urged other industry stakeholders to enthusiastically adopt clean technologies, actively participating in India&#8217;s transformative journey towards a greener economy and fostering a conscientious industrial landscape.</p>
<p>Scindia highlighted India&#8217;s progress in the steel sector, evolving from a net importer to a net exporter and aiming to become the world&#8217;s largest producer of crude steel. One key initiative in this journey is the National Green Hydrogen Mission, launched last year with an outlay of  ₹197.44 billion (~$2.3 billion) with the aim to make India a global hub for production, usage, and export of green hydrogen and its derivatives.</p>
<p>The mission is also <a href="https://www.mercomindia.com/mnre-pilot-implement-hydrogen-steel" target="_blank" rel="noopener">supporting</a> green hydrogen pilot projects in the steel sector with a budget of around ₹4.55 billion (~$54.8 million) until the financial year 2029-30. The program aims to gradually substitute fossil fuels to use 100% hydrogen in the Direct Reduced Iron process of steelmaking.</p>
<p>The minister <a href="https://www.mercomindia.com/deploying-renewable-energy-indias-steel-industry" target="_blank" rel="noopener">referred</a> to the 13 task forces set up to identify action points for each aspect of green steel production and implementation of the steel scrap recycling policy to enhance the availability of domestically generated scrap.</p>

					</table><p>Reliance Green Hydrogen and Green Chemicals (<a href="https://www.ril.com/businesses/new-energy-materials#:~:text=Energy%20storage%20and%20Green%20Hydrogen%20production&amp;text=For%20large%20scale%20and%20cost,giga%2Dscale%20electrolyser%20manufacturing%20facility." target="_blank" rel="noopener">Reliance</a>), <a href="https://www.acme.in/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">ACME Cleantech Solutions</a>, Greenko ZeroC (<a href="https://greenkogroup.com/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Greenko</a>), HHP Two (<a href="https://www.hygenco.in/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Hygenco</a>), and <a href="https://www.bharatpetroleum.in/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Bharat Petroleum Corporation</a> were among the winners of Solar Energy Corporation of India’s (<a href="https://www.seci.co.in/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">SECI</a>) tender to set up 450,000 metric tons (MT)/annum production facilities for green hydrogen, according to Mercom sources.</p>
<p>The tender <a href="https://www.mercomindia.com/seci-bids-450000-mta-green-hydrogen-facilities" target="_blank" rel="noopener">floated</a> in July invited proposals under the Technology Agnostic Pathways bucket (Bucket I) and Biomass-based Pathways bucket (Bucket II).</p>
<p>The total capacity under Bucket-I is 410,000 MT/annum of green hydrogen, and the total capacity under Bucket-II is 40,000 MT/annum.</p>
<p>Under Bucket I, Reliance, Greenko, and ACME won 90,000 MT of capacity at an average incentive of ₹18.9 (~$0.227)/kg, ₹30 (~$0.360)/kg, and ₹30 (~$0.360)/kg, respectively.</p>
<p>Hygenco won 75,000 MT capacity for an average incentive amount of ₹25.04 (~$0.301)/kg.</p>
<p>Other winners included Welspun New Energy (<a href="https://www.welspunenterprises.com/index.php" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Welspun</a>), who won 20,000 MT capacity at an average incentive of ₹20 (~$0.240)/kg; <a href="https://www.torrentpower.com/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Torrent Power</a> won 18,000 MT for ₹28.89 (~$0.347)/kg; Calcutta Electric Supply Corporation (<a href="https://www.cesc.co.in/home" target="_blank" rel="noopener">CESC</a>) Projects won 10,500 MT, and <a href="https://www.upl-ltd.com/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">UPL</a> (formerly United Phosphorus Limited) won 10,000 MT capacity at a zero average incentive amount.</p>
<p>JSW Neo Energy (<a href="https://www.jsw.in/energy" target="_blank" rel="noopener">JSW Energy</a>) won 6,500 MT capacity out of the 10,000 MT quoted capacity at ₹34.66 (~$0.416)/kg average incentive per kg under the bucket filling method.</p>
<p>All the capacity was allotted under Bucket I.</p>

The company was the only one to win a capacity under this bucket; the remaining 38,000 MT capacity remained unallocated.</p>

<p>The tenders for green hydrogen and electrolyzer manufacturing were issued in July this year under the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy’s (<a href="https://mnre.gov.in/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">MNRE</a>) Tranche-I of the Strategic Interventions for Green Hydrogen Transition (SIGHT) program.</p>
<p>Under the Green Hydrogen tender, the selected bidder is expected to set up production facilities in thousand metric tons (TMT) scale for green hydrogen production and its derivates.</p>
<p>The projects must be commissioned within 30 months of receiving the letter of award.</p>
<p>The average incentive discovered was based on the three-year incentive demanded by the companies in their proposals.</p>
<p>According to the source Mercom spoke to, the electrolyzer bids are still undergoing evaluation and are expected to be revealed later this month.</p>
<p>Mercom had previously <a href="https://www.mercomindia.com/adani-bhel-jsw-lt-bidders-green-hydrogen-electrolyzer" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reported</a> on the overwhelming response the tenders had received in December 2023, following the opening of the technical bids.</p>
