					</table><p>Switzerland-based engineering company <a href="https://www.meyerburger.com/en/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Meyer Burger</a> is planning to introduce a unified glass, glass-based product platform for its solar modules.</p>
<p>The modules designed under the platform will have optimized glass on the front and back. They will have enhanced bifaciality, a prominent attribute in heterojunction solar technology.</p>
<p>The company said the products will come with increased durability, low weight, sustainably higher performance, and appealing aesthetics in black, white, and transparent variants.</p>
<p>Meyer Burger hopes to cut manufacturing costs as the new platform enables the scalability of new manufacturing capacities and accelerate mass production.</p>
<p>The company said the platform will help eliminate downtime due to product changes and complex procurement logistics processes caused by product diversity.</p>
<p>The company has set a target of producing solar modules with a total output of approximately 800 MW in 2023.</p>
<p>Meyer Burger has designed production lines for the new platform at its Goodyear site in the United States while the technical upgrades at the company’s Freiberg plant in Germany are scheduled to begin in the second quarter of 2023.</p>
<p>While the company expanded its production capacity in Germany’s plant to 1.4 GW which would be sufficient for the new platform, Meyer said the ongoing supply chain disruptions for some industrial electronics components have delayed ramping up of the third module line in Freiberg until summer.</p>
<p>Meyer said that it is providing the black and white glass-backsheet modules to its customers while the company transitions to the new product platform. The new platform can be combined with future solar cells technologies such as IBC-HJT and HJT-perovskite tandem.</p>
<p>In 2021, the company <a href="https://mercomindia.com/daily-news-wrap-up-module-plant/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">announced</a> the beginning of module production using heterojunction technology with an annual capacity of 400 MW which the company said would be expanded to 1 GW.</p>
<p>Last year, the International Energy Agency said in a <a href="https://mercomindia.com/diversifying-global-production-solar-modules-net-zero/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">report</a> that ensuring a secure transition to net-zero emissions will require increased efforts to expand and diversify the global production of solar modules. The report examined solar photovoltaic supply chains from raw materials to the finished product, covering energy consumption, emissions, employment, production costs, investment, trade, and financial performance.</p>

Meyer Burger to Introduce Unified Glass-Glass Platform for Solar Modules

					</table><p>China-based module manufacturer <a href="https://en.risenenergy.com/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Risen Energy</a> claimed to have achieved a maximum power of 741.456W with a module efficiency of 23.8% in its Hyper-ion HJT solar module.</p>
<p>The module is backed by Risen&#8217;s 100 μm ultra-thin cell technology and low-temperature process, yielding a carbon footprint value that is lower than 400 kg equivalent CO2/kWc.</p>
<p>The results achieved by Risen were confirmed by security and sustainability solutions partner <a href="https://www.tuvsud.com/en" target="_blank" rel="noopener">TUV SUD</a>.</p>
<p>The company also said its Hyper-ion HJT module has a stable temperature coefficient and increased bifaciality of up to 85% ±10%, capable of maintaining its power output above 90% even after 30 years of use.</p>
<p>Risen Energy&#8217;s Senior Research and Development Director Even Liu said, &#8220;As the latest HJT product, Hyper-ion has the best combination of both improvement and reductions, high power generation, high efficiency and reliability, low degradation, and low-temperature coefficient, low CFP and low levelized cost of energy (LCOE). Risen Energy will continue to innovate and improve our products to promote the era of carbon neutrality.&#8221;</p>
<p>Apart from the use of ultra-thin wafers, other technological innovations like zero busbar technology, hyper-link interconnection, and embedding of encapsulated material helped Risen boost the efficiency of its new HJT series module.</p>
<p>According to Risen, the alloy frame of the HJT hyper-ion module is strong, with the tear-resistant capability of the steel material increased by 20%, which is better than the conventional metal frames.</p>
<p>With rising demand for improved power and efficiency, the global solar sector is focussed on streamlining improved photovoltaic (PV) systems like the heterojunction technology which offers a unique feature of bifaciality.</p>
<p>China has been leading in HJT innovation with continuous research resulting in enhanced power output.</p>
<p>Unlike conventional solar PV technologies like the crystalline silicon or passivated emitter and rear contact, the modules manufactured using HJT technology are tough and damage resistant which offers manufacturers and suppliers relief in terms of transporting the modules from peer to peer.</p>
<p>In January 2023, the Chinese module maker <a href="https://mercomindia.com/chinese-firm-development-710-wp-heterojunction-module/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">announced</a> that its 710 Wp HJT hyper-ion module achieved an efficiency surpassing 22.5% and has an improved stable temperature coefficient and a high bifaciality of up to 85% with a band of ±5%, enabling power output of over 90% even after 30 years of use.</p>
<p>Last December, China-based LONGi Green Energy Technology claimed to have <a href="https://mercomindia.com/longi-says-efficiency-in-heterojunction-silicon-solar-cells/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">achieved</a> a record efficiency of 26.8% for its HJT silicon solar cells on full-size silicon wafers through mass production.</p>

Risen Energy Achieves 23.8% Efficiency in Hyper-ion Heterojunction Module

					</table><p>Solar module manufacturing technology has been evolving rapidly over the last few years, with Chinese companies at the forefront of the development.</p>
<p>The race for better and more efficient modules is providing breakthroughs in even relatively modern technologies like Heterojunction (HJT) solar photovoltaic.</p>
<p>These photovoltaic panels are better damage resistant and more efficient due to their bifacial make.</p>
<p>Further, they have a longer lifecycle than conventionally used crystalline silicon or the passivated emitter and rear contact (PERC), among other available technologies.</p>
<p>The latest announcement on HJT came from China-based solar module maker <a href="https://en.risenenergy.com/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Risen Energy</a>. The company said that its 710 Wp HJT hyper-ion module achieved an efficiency surpassing 22.5%, which has been certified by security and sustainability solutions partner <a href="https://www.tuvsud.com/en" target="_blank" rel="noopener">TUV SUD</a>.</p>
<p>The company claimed that its HJT hyper-ion module comes with an improved stable temperature coefficient and a high bifaciality of up to 85% with a band of ±5%, enabling power output of over 90% even after 30 years of use.</p>
<p>Risen said that the module is made with 100μm ultra-thin cell technology and a low-temperature process yielding a carbon footprint value lower than 400 kg equivalent CO2/kWc.</p>
<p>The alloy frame of the HJT hyper-ion module is strong, with the tear-resistant capability of the steel material increased by 20%, which is better than the conventional metal frames, the company said.</p>
<p>Risen said it has begun mass-production of the new modules. The company also claimed to increase the production capacity of solar cells and modules to 5 GW by the first half of 2023 and targets tripling the same to 15 GW in the next six months.</p>
<p>India also has initiated measures to commence procurement and production of HJT cells, with Reliance Industries <a href="https://mercomindia.com/reliance-purchase-production-lines-hjt-cells/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">inking</a> a letter of commitment with Maxwell Technology last year to purchase eight sets of high-efficiency production lines for HJT cells, each with 600 MW capacity to manufacture an annual capacity of 4.8 GW cells.</p>

Chinese Firm Announces Development of 710 Wp Heterojunction Solar Module

					</table><p>After a year and a half of extensive research in heterojunction (HJT) solar cells, China-based <a href="https://www.longi.com/en/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">LONGi Green Energy Technology </a>said it has achieved a record efficiency of 26.81% for its HJT silicon solar cells on full-size silicon wafers through mass production.</p>
<p>The efficiency was confirmed and certified in a report by Germany-based <a href="https://isfh.de/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Institut für Solarenergieforschung</a> in Hamelin.</p>
<p>LONGi’s accelerated the research and development in HJT delivered 1.55% more efficiency to reach 26.81% compared to 25.26% achieved last year.</p>
<p>LONGi Founder and President said Li Zhenguo, “Improving the efficiency and reducing the LCOE (levelized cost of energy) is the eternal theme of the development of the photovoltaic industry. Every 0.01% improvement in solar cell conversion efficiency requires enormous efforts. In particular, crystalline silicon solar cells account for nearly 95% of the current photovoltaic market, so the ultimate efficiency of crystalline silicon solar cells also shows the development potential and direction of the photovoltaic industry, which is of great significance in the entire photovoltaic industry.”</p>
<p>Professor at the <a href="https://www.unsw.edu.au/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">University of New South Wales</a> Martin Green said that the 26.81% efficiency achieved by LONGi is the highest silicon solar cell efficiency worldwide.</p>
<p>“This outstanding achievement will be included in the next version of efficiency tables that is published in the progress in photovoltaics. This is the first time in the history of the photovoltaic industry that a Chinese solar technology company has set the world record for silicon solar cell efficiency,” Green said.</p>
<p>The new world record set by LONGi has been recognized by the International Energy Agency, the Energy Transformation Commission, the World Business Council for Sustainable Development, and industry associations like Australia’s Smart Energy Council, Renewables in Africa, and the Association of Chile Energy Solar.</p>
<p>LONGi was one of the five module suppliers which <a href="https://mercomindia.com/jinko-trina-ja-longi-adani-top-solar-module-suppliers-1h-22/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">led</a> the Indian solar market during the first half of 2022.</p>
<p>LONGi <a href="https://mercomindia.com/longi-solar-records-revenue-surge-of-44-yoy-in-1h-2022/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">posted</a> a year-over-year increase of 44% in net revenue at ¥50.4 billion (~$7.32 billion) for the first half (1H) of the financial year (FY) 2022.</p>

LONGi Says Achieved 26.8% Efficiency in Heterojunction Silicon Solar Cells

<p><strong>Adani Green Energy Limited has completed the </strong><a href="https://www.bseindia.com/xml-data/corpfiling/AttachHis/32a3f457-53e8-455d-bbcc-a7a9991e476e.pdf" target="_blank" rel="noopener"><strong>acquisition</strong></a><strong> of 100% of the share capital and all the securities of Spinel Energy &amp; Infrastructure </strong>from Hindustan Cleanenergy and Peridot Power Ventures.</p>
<p><strong>India Grid Trust (IndiGrid) completed the <a href="https://www.indigrid.co.in/pdf/IndiGrid_Intimation_of_NER_Acquisition_26_03_2021.pdf" target="_blank" rel="noopener">acquisition</a> </strong>of <strong> </strong>NER II Transmission Limited. The enterprise value of the transaction is ₹46.25 billion (~$632.9 million). IndiGrid has completed the acquisition of 49% paid-up capital and management control of the NER from Sterlite Grid 4 Limited on March 26, 2021. The remaining stake will be acquired in one or more tranches as agreed under the share purchase agreement. SGL4 is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Sterlite Power Transmission Limited, one of the sponsors of IndiGrid.</p>
<p><strong>Adani Transmission (ATL) </strong><a href="https://www.bseindia.com/xml-data/corpfiling/AttachLive/2236dea2-ea04-4e28-a605-e0baff6dcfe5.pdf" target="_blank" rel="noopener"><strong>entered</strong></a><strong> an agreement with Essel Infraprojects Limited (EIL) for the acquisition of Warora-Kurnool Transmission (WKTL).</strong> As per the agreement, WKTL will develop, operate, and maintain transmission lines aggregating to ~1,750 ckt km. The two 765 kV inter-state transmission lines link Warora to Warangal and Chilakaluripeta to Kurnool via Hyderabad, with a new 765/400 kV sub-station at Warangal, which will be built and operated as a part of the agreement.</p>
<p><strong>Jinneng Clean Energy Technology (Jinergy) has </strong><a href="https://www.prnewswire.co.uk/news-releases/jinergy-supplying-latest-hjt-module-to-east-asia-and-europe-839081642.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener"><strong>announced</strong></a><strong> that it is supplying M6-size (166mm) half-cut HJT (heterojunction) solar modules to East Asia and the European market.</strong> Jinergy&#8217;s M6 wafer HJT module received TÜV NORD Certificate last December. HJT is a promising technology to effectively bring down LCOE (levelized cost of energy) of photovoltaic power stations. As HJT technology continues to mature, more and more end-users, especially in Japan, South Korea, and Europe, are willing to select HJT modules when they are investing in rooftop or ground-mount solar stations.</p>
<p><strong>Octopus Energy Group </strong><a href="https://octopus.energy/press/octopus-energy-group-to-become-one-of-europes-largest-green-generation-operators-with-acquisition-of-octopus-renewables/" target="_blank" rel="noopener"><strong>announced</strong></a><strong> its intention to acquire sister company Octopus Renewables in a move designed to shake up the global energy market</strong> and help drive a cheaper, faster energy transition through technology. Octopus Energy has gained two million customers since launching to the market less than five years ago, making it the fifth-largest energy supplier in the U.K.</p>
