<p>In the three-month period April to June 2017, India recorded a power supply deficit of 0.6 percent. India generated 307,663 million units (MU) of electricity in the second quarter of 2017, a growth of 3.74 percent, compared to the 296,573.99 MU of electricity generated in the same period last year, according to Central Electricity Authority (CEA).</p>
<p>Even though energy generation increased for the quarter, there was a supply deficit of 1,925 MU of electricity in Q2 of 2017.</p>
<p>The Power Supply Deficit and Peak Power Deficit by Regions are as follows:</p>

<p>The North-Eastern region faces a large supply deficit of 3.6 percent followed by the Northern region at 1.5 percent. Supply deficit levels have increased in the Eastern region.</p>
<p>In the <a href="https://mercomindia.com/india-expects-power-surplus-8-8-percent-peak-surplus-6-8-percent-fy2017-18/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Load Generation Balance Report (LGBR)</a> by the Central Electricity Authority (CEA) it was noted that during financial year (FY) 2016-17, total ex-bus energy availability increased by 4.1 percent over the previous year, and the peak demand increased by 5.7 percent. The energy requirement registered a growth of 2.6 percent during the year and peak demand registered a growth of 4 percent. The report also stated, “India is expecting a power surplus of 8.8 percent and peak surplus of 6.8 percent during FY 2017-18.”</p>
<p>Mercom <a href="https://mercomindia.com/indias-power-supply-deficit-0-7-percent-fy2016-17/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">previously reported</a> that India recorded a low power supply deficit of 0.7 percent in FY 2016-17.</p>
