<p><strong>Sention Technologies, a company that provides battery quality monitoring solutions, has </strong><a href="https://mercomcapital.com/sention-technologies-raises-5-million-in-seed-funding/" target="_blank" rel="noopener"><strong>secured</strong></a><strong> £3.7 million (~$5 million) in seed funding</strong>. Twin Path Ventures led the funding round, which was joined by Doral Energy-Tech Ventures, Endgame Capital, Energy Revolution Ventures, G.K. Goh Ventures, Green Angel Ventures, Third Sphere, and the UK Innovation and Science Seed Fund. With this funding, the company plans to accelerate the commercialization of its Senturion and AI-driven data fusion software, Sentinel. Additionally, Sention plans to invest in R&amp;D for its next-generation product, Sentry, which is designed to integrate directly into production lines.</p>
<p><strong>Contemporary Amperex Technology (CATL), a China-based battery manufacturing and technology company, </strong><a href="https://mercomcapital.com/battery-manufacturer-catl-announces-ipo-listing-hong-kong-stock-exchange/" target="_blank" rel="noopener"><strong>announced</strong></a><strong> the listing on the Main Board of the Hong Kong Stock Exchange (HKEX)</strong> under stock code 3750, raising $4.6 billion. The offering is said to have attracted investors from 15 countries and regions worldwide. The initial public offering (IPO) comprises 135 million shares, before the greenshoe option, at HKD 296 (~$37.80) each, representing a 12.55% increase from the offering price. According to the company, this makes it the first A-share company to seek a secondary listing in Hong Kong with a price cap for the issuance.</p>
<p><strong>Amp Energy, a global energy transition and digital infrastructure platform, </strong><a href="https://www.amp.energy/news/amp-energys-australia-and-uk-businesses-acquired-by-revera-energy-and-longtime-partner-carlyle" target="_blank" rel="noopener"><strong>announced</strong></a><strong> that its Australia and U.K. businesses have been acquired by Revera Energy</strong>, an independent energy infrastructure platform launched by global investment firm Carlyle. Amp entered the Australian market in 2017 with operations across South Australia and New South Wales. In the UK, Amp hands over a development team and platform consisting of 1.2GW of late-stage battery storage projects in Scotland. Since its inception, Amp is stated to have developed and built or contracted 14 GW of assets globally.</p>

					</table><p>The Central Electricity Regulatory Commission <a href="https://www.mercomindia.com/cerc-releases-draft-virtual-power-purchase-agreement-guidelines" target="_blank" rel="noopener">released</a> draft guidelines for virtual power purchase agreements (VPPA), which could evolve as another instrument to enable the designated consumers to meet their renewable consumption obligation targets. These guidelines aim to help India achieve its goal of 500 GW of installed capacity from non-fossil fuel sources. The Commission said that a VPPA consumer or a designated consumer may enter a long-term bilateral VPPA with a renewable energy generator at an agreed-upon price.</p>
<p>The Rajasthan Electricity Regulatory Commission <a href="https://www.mercomindia.com/rajasthan-bess-captive-projects-exceeding-contract-demand" target="_blank" rel="noopener">issued</a> the Rajasthan Electricity Regulatory Commission (Terms and Conditions for Green Energy Open Access) Regulations, 2025. Captive renewable energy projects, including behind-the-meter installations, can have a capacity of up to 200% of the consumer’s contract demand. If the installed capacity of a captive power project exceeds 100% and goes up to 200% of the contract demand, a battery energy storage system (BESS) is required. The BESS must be capable of storing at least 20% of the energy generated by the additional capacity, that is, the portion of the capacity above 100% of the contract demand.</p>
<p>Gujarat Urja Vikas Nigam <a href="https://www.mercomindia.com/gujarat-invites-bids-to-purchase-power-from-500-mw-solar-projects" target="_blank" rel="noopener">issued</a> a request for selection for procuring power from 500 MW solar projects on a build, own, operate basis. The tender includes a greenshoe option for an additional capacity of up to 500 MW, increasing the potential total to 1,000 MW. The scope of work encompasses the setup of the solar projects, including the electrical network up to the delivery point. It also includes obtaining the projects’ approvals, permits, and clearances.</p>
<p>The NTPC Vidyut Vyapar Nigam <a href="https://www.mercomindia.com/nvvn-tenders-3-4-mw-rooftop-solar-projects-in-andaman-and-nicobar" target="_blank" rel="noopener">invited</a> bids for installing 3.45 MW grid-connected rooftop solar projects at multiple buildings in three Andaman and Nicobar Islands districts. Bidders must submit a bid document fee of ₹22,500 (~$262.45). Bids must be submitted by June 19, 2025. Bids will be opened on June 20. Apart from installing the solar systems, the selected bidders must obtain net-metering approval from the distribution company/designated agency. They must obtain an insurance policy for transit, storage, and erection for all the project materials. They must also provide operations and maintenance services for five years.</p>
<p>Rajasthan Electronics and Instruments <a href="https://www.mercomindia.com/reil-issues-rate-contract-tender-for-1-4-mw-rooftop-solar-projects" target="_blank" rel="noopener">invited</a> bids for rate contracts to set up 1.35 MW of grid-connected rooftop solar projects on government buildings in Uttar Pradesh. The last date to submit bids is June 11, 2025. Bids will be opened June 12. The rate contract has been estimated at ₹49.95 million (~$581,588), and the ceiling limit at ₹37,000 (~$430.8)/kWh. The scope of work covers survey, design, supply, engineering, erection, testing, and commissioning of the projects. It also covers operation and maintenance for 10 years.</p>
<p>Solar module manufacturers <a href="https://www.mercomindia.com/solar-cell-manufacturing-lags-behind-demand" target="_blank" rel="noopener">stressed</a> the importance of increasing solar cell capacity to meet the growing domestic demand at the recent RE Buyer Seller Meet hosted by Mercom India in Pune. Representatives from Adani Solar and Swelect Energy participated in the discussion. Kabir Bakshi, Territory Manager, Adani Solar, said, “The domestic content requirement (DCR) module capacities are limited in the country. We are trying to increase the DCR capacity, but the demand increases as we increase the supply. Last year, one million homes were solarized under PM Surya Ghar, and this financial year, the government has set a target of three million homes.”</p>
<p>Government-owned Power Finance Corporation <a href="https://www.mercomindia.com/higher-net-interest-income-strengthens-pfcs-q4-fy-2025-financials" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reported</a> a total revenue of ₹292.85 billion (~$3.42 billion) in the fourth quarter (Q4) of the financial year (FY) 2024-25, a 21.13% year-over-year (YoY) increase from ₹241.76 billion (~$2.82 billion). It has attributed the rise in total income to higher net interest income, which went up 38.36% to ₹120.92 billion (~$1.4 billion) from ₹87.39 billion (~$1.01 billion) in the corresponding quarter of the previous year. The public infrastructure financing company’s profit after tax increased by 10.6% YoY to ₹83.58 billion (~$976.46 million) from ₹75.56 billion (~$882.76 million). Its earnings per share (EPS) stood at ₹19.14 (~$0.22) in Q4 FY25 compared to an EPS of ₹17.04 (~$0.19).</p>

<p>The company’s initial public offering took 128 days to complete. It did not offer any share price discount. CATL’s stock opened at HKD296 (~$37.83) per share, a 12.55% increase from the offered price.</p>
<p>CATL said its offering attracted investors from 15 countries and regions. These investors included sovereign wealth funds, industrial capital, long-term institutions, insurance capital, and multi-strategy funds.</p>
<p>Outside of ESS solutions, CATL develops batteries for passenger vehicles such as cars and commercial applications such as buses, trucks, boats, and other industrial and commercial vehicles. It is also involved in battery recycling.</p>
<p>Recently, it introduced its standardized battery swap block and full-scenario chassis-swap solutions for heavy-duty trucks.</p>
<p>China continues to lead battery production, accounting for over 75% of the global supply. In 2024, the country’s battery prices <a href="https://www.mercomindia.com/battery-demand-1-twh-2024-iea" target="_blank" rel="noopener">declined</a> more rapidly than anywhere else, dropping by nearly 30%. Chinese batteries were 30% cheaper than their European counterparts and 20% less expensive than those produced in North America.</p>
<p>An International Energy Agency report said that over 70% of all EV batteries are produced in China, and companies like CATL and BYD have leveraged manufacturing expertise to scale production rapidly and improve efficiency.</p>
<p>According to BloombergNEF’s fifth edition of the Global Lithium-Ion Battery Supply Chain Ranking, China <a href="https://www.mercomindia.com/china-overtakes-canada-to-regain-top-spot-among-li-ion-supply-chain-countries" target="_blank" rel="noopener">overtook</a> Canada to return as the leading lithium-ion supply-chain country in 2024. Low commercial electricity prices and advancing infrastructure primarily drove China’s rankings. Despite diversifying efforts, the country continues to host a heavily concentrated refined supply of battery raw materials. Capacity additions across the manufacturing value chain are also centered in China.</p>


Battery Manufacturer CATL Lists on Hong Kong Stock Exchange’s Main Board

					</table><p>China-based battery manufacturing and technology company Contemporary Amperex Technology (<a href="https://www.catl.com/en/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">CATL</a>) has pledged an investment of $1.4 billion to build two lithium production plants that will utilize Direct Extraction of Lithium technology and will be located in the salt flats of Uyuni, Potosí, and Coipasa, in the city of Oruro in Bolivia.</p>
<p>The project&#8217;s initial phase aims to achieve an annual lithium production of approximately 200,000 tons.</p>
<p>CATL is considering the possibility of increasing investments to optimize production and operate more efficiently by 2025. The investment is expected to rise from $1.4 billion to $9.92 billion.</p>
<p>The announcement was made by the Minister of Hydrocarbons and Energies, Franklin Molina Ortiz, who highlighted the significance of this investment in the energy sector and positioning Bolivia as a sovereign player in the lithium industry.</p>
<p>Minister Molina said, &#8220;This investment marks a milestone in the energy history of our country and consolidates Bolivia as a benchmark in the industrialization of lithium. Additionally, it is a step towards energy transition with sovereignty.&#8221;</p>
<p>In January this year, the Bolivian State, represented by Yacimientos del Litio Bolivianos (YLB), signed an agreement with CATL BRUNP &amp; CMOC (CBC) under the sovereign investment model, solidifying their partnership and paving the way for future collaboration.</p>
<p>The company said its current global market share is approximately 37%, and its clients include major electromobility players, such as Porsche, Tesla, Mercedes Benz, and Ford.</p>
<p>Recognizing the tourist potential of the Uyuni salt flats, the company plans to employ engineering strategies that minimize the project&#8217;s visual impact and prioritizes environmental conservation.</p>
<p>The engineering design would be mindful of the landscape, ensuring that it does not compromise or affect the landscape of the Uyuni salt flats, the company said in its statement.</p>
<p>In October last year, CATL <a href="https://www.mercomindia.com/primergy-solar-catl-for-1-2-billion-solar-project-in-us" target="_blank" rel="noopener">entered</a> a sole battery supply agreement with Primergy Solar, a U.S.-based utility-scale and distributed solar and storage company, to develop a 690 MW solar and 1,416 MWh storage project called Gemini in Nevada in the United States.</p>
<p>Later in December, CATL and Gresham House Energy Storage Holdings <a href="https://www.mercomindia.com/daily-news-wrap-up-gwh-battery-storage-system-to-gresham-house" target="_blank" rel="noopener">entered</a> into a long-term agreement for supplying up to 7.5 GWh of battery energy storage systems. Both parties will endeavor to increase the scope to 10 GWh of BESS for utility-scale energy storage.</p>

<p><strong>The Asian Development Bank (ADB) has <a href="https://www.adb.org/news/adb-bim-wind-sign-107-million-financing-package-support-wind-energy-viet-nam" target="_blank" rel="noopener">signed</a> a $107 million financing project with BIM Wind to support the operation of an 88 MW wind farm in Vietnam, which will offset 215,000 tons of CO2 annually</strong> and help Vietnam reach its clean energy and climate action targets. The ADB funds the project from various sources, including Japan International Cooperation Agency, Hong Kong Mortgage Corporation, Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation, ING Bank, and Cathay United Bank. The Federated States of Micronesia (FSM) will <a href="https://www.adb.org/news/adb-approves-5-million-grant-develop-clean-energy-projects-fsm" target="_blank" rel="noopener">receive</a> a grant of $5 million from ADB to support the development of clean energy projects, such as solar and hydro, in the country. The grant will help assess, plan, and build capacity for energy efficiency and clean energy projects. The FSM government will also contribute $500,000 in in-kind support for the initiative.</p>
<p><strong>Electricité de Guinée (</strong><a href="https://edg.com.gn/" target="_blank" rel="noopener"><strong>EDG</strong></a><strong>) and Swiss renewable energy developer </strong><a href="https://terra-sola.com/fr/" target="_blank" rel="noopener"><strong>Terra Sola Group</strong></a><strong> have signed an agreement to invest $500 million in a program to accelerate Guinea&#8217;s electrification</strong>, particularly in rural areas. Terra Sola has formed a consortium to implement a large-scale integrated solar energy program, including solar power plants, energy storage and distribution systems, and a human resources development center to train EDG employees. The project is expected to be completed within nine months, with the construction of the first power project set to begin in the last quarter of 2023.</p>
<p><strong>Flipkart, an India-based e-commerce company, has <a href="https://storiesflistgv2.blob.core.windows.net/stories/2022/12/63a2a87c3345d-63a2a87c3345fFinal-Flipkart-joins-RE100-2022.docx.pdf.pdf" target="_blank" rel="noopener">committed</a> to sourcing 100% of its energy requirements from renewable energy sources for its entire operations by 2030.</strong> The company has taken Climate group’s RE100 commitment and aligned the move with its net zero commitments of reducing the Scop 1 and 2 climate change impacts by 2030. According to the company, 14% of its electricity requirements are already met by renewable sources against the baseline consumption of the calendar year 2021.</p>
<p><strong>Energy Dome, a battery storage company, was <a href="https://www.businesswire.com/news/home/20221221005552/en/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">awarded</a> €17.5 million in funding from the European Innovation Council (EIC), the largest amount made available by the program.</strong> The company pioneered the CO2 battery, a disruptive long-duration energy storage solution at a competitive cost and using readily available, off-the-shelf components. Energy Dome was selected through a highly competitive process from more than 1000 companies that submitted a complete application.</p>

					</table><p><a href="https://primergysolar.com/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Primergy Solar</a>, a U.S.-based utility-scale and distributed solar and storage company has entered a sole battery supply agreement with Contemporary Amperex Technology Limited (<a href="https://www.catl.com/en/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">CATL</a>) to develop a 690 MW solar and 1,416 MWh storage project called Gemini in Nevada in the United States.</p>
<p>Gemini will be one of the largest operational solar and storage projects in the U.S, worth a total of $1.2 billion.</p>
<p>Primergy, which has portfolios of over 8 GW of solar and battery energy storage projects in development, construction, and operations over 17 different states in the U.S., has completed a comprehensive procurement process and selected several globally leading equipment suppliers and construction partners for the Gemini project.</p>
<p>The company said it has designed an innovative direct coupling system for the project, aiming to maximize efficiency by teaming up with CATL’s storage system.</p>
<p>CATL will supply Primergy with EnerOne, a modular outdoor liquid cooling energy storage system with long service life, high integration, and a high degree of safety. EnerOne solutions utilize advanced lithium phosphate chemistry and hence have been selected for Gemini by Primergy for it meets the company’s requirements for safe and reliable operations at its sites.</p>
<p>With a cycle life of up to 10,000 cycles, the LFP (lithium ferro-phosphate) based battery product is expected to contribute to the safe and reliable operation of the Gemini project.</p>
<p>&#8220;CATL is a technology leader in the battery industry, and we are pleased to partner with them on the Gemini Project and showcase CATL&#8217;s advanced EnerOne storage solution,&#8221; said Ty Daul, Chief Executive Officer of Primergy Solar.</p>
<p>&#8220;The future of our country&#8217;s energy reliability and resiliency relies on the mass deployment of battery storage capacity that can supply consistent power back into the grid when it&#8217;s needed most,&#8221; he added.</p>
<p>According to a <a href="https://mercomindia.com/global-lithium-ion-battery-capacity-to-increase-five-fold/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">report</a> published by Wood Mackenzie, CATL led the expansion outlook, amongst the Chinese battery manufacturers, with an operating and planned capacity of 800 GWh by 2030.</p>
<p>APG, a Netherlands-based pension asset manager, <a href="https://mercomindia.com/project-finance-brief-apg-acquires-49-stake-in-gemini-solar-storage-project/">agreed</a> to acquire 49% equity ownership in the Gemini project from Quinbrook Infrastructure Partners, an investment manager focused exclusively on the new infrastructure needed for the energy transition, and its portfolio company Primergy.</p>
