					</table><p>The <strong>Iraqi Ministry of Oil </strong><a href="https://www.enerdata.net/publications/daily-energy-news/iraq-moves-ahead-125-gw-solar-project-and-517-mcmyear-gas-field.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">signed</a> an agreement with <strong>TotalEnergies </strong>and<strong> QatarEnergy</strong> to develop a 1.25 GW solar project as part of the Gas Growth Integrated Project in the country&#8217;s Basra region. Both companies would equally own the project, and it will consist of two million bifacial solar panels mounted on single-axis trackers to be installed in five 250 MW phases to come online between 2025 and 2027. Once completely operational, the solar project is expected to generate up to 1.25 GW of energy<strong>. </strong>The project will supply clean energy to approximately 350,000 homes in southern Iraq.</p>
<p>The <strong>International Finance Corporation (IFC)</strong> <a href="https://www.zawya.com/en/projects/industry/ifc-to-support-usps-16bln-solar-polysilicon-project-in-oman-p9byq8s8" target="_blank" rel="noopener">signed</a> an agreement with <strong>Oman-based United Solar Polysilicon </strong>to support its $1.6 billion greenfield polysilicon facility. It will be built in Oman&#8217;s Sohar Port and Freezone and have an annual production capacity of 100,000 tons. <strong>Future Fund Oman</strong> invested $156 million in the project. The project has reached the installation phase.</p>
<p><strong>Algeria</strong> <a href="https://www.zawya.com/en/projects/utilities/algeria-launches-renewable-energy-hydrogen-plan-n2di1ny2" target="_blank" rel="noopener">plans</a> to develop renewable energy and green hydrogen projects to reduce its reliance on conventional energy sources and save fossil fuels for exports. The <strong>European Union </strong>and the<strong> German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development</strong> will fund the plan, which costs roughly €28 million ($32 million). The plan aims to establish a national database to assess green hydrogen potential and implement monitoring tools to reduce emissions and enhance energy efficiency. Algeria aims to achieve 27% renewable energy in its energy mix by 2026 and install 15 GW by 2030.</p>
<p><strong>Shanghai Electric</strong>, a power generation and electrical equipment manufacturing company, <a href="https://www.zawya.com/en/business/energy/shanghai-electric-in-deal-to-develop-2gw-saudi-pv-plant-hlzlg2ai" target="_blank" rel="noopener">entered</a> an agreement with <strong>Abu Dhabi-based Masdar</strong> for its Sadavi solar project. The project is part of Round 5 of Saudi Arabia&#8217;s National Renewable Energy Program. It is expected to deliver a total capacity of 2,000 MW. On completion, it will become Shanghai Electric&#8217;s biggest EPC project.</p>

					</table><p><strong>Algeria</strong> <a href="https://www.zawya.com/en/projects/utilities/algeria-launches-plan-for-15-solar-power-plants-tt8et555" target="_blank" rel="noopener">launched</a> a nationwide solar power program to construct 15 solar projects with a total capacity of 3.2 GW. Energy and Mines Minister Mohammed Arqab laid the foundation for the first 80 MW projects in Bechar province. The initiative will be implemented in phases across 12 provinces to expand Algeria&#8217;s renewable energy mix.</p>
<p><strong>Egypt&#8217;s </strong>renewable energy production is <a href="https://www.zawya.com/en/projects/utilities/egypts-renewable-energy-production-to-rise-to-12-gw-in-2026-r5wmb2oe" target="_blank" rel="noopener">projected</a> to increase to 12 GW by 2026, with further expansion expected in the following years, according to Electricity and Renewable Energy Minister Mahmud Esmat. The country also installed 3.5 GW of energy storage batteries to support growth. By 2029, Egypt aims to generate 20 GW from solar and wind projects alongside 3.6 GW from the Dabaa nuclear facility.</p>
<p><strong>Saudi Electricity Company</strong> <a href="https://www.saudigulfprojects.com/2025/03/sec-invite-bids-for-380kv-substations-of-renewable-energy-projects/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">invited</a> bids for constructing 380 kV substations and associated overhead transmission lines across multiple regions in the country to support upcoming renewable energy projects. The Saudi Power Procurement Company has also requested a proposal for the sixth round of renewable energy projects under the Ministry of Energy&#8217;s National Renewable Energy Program. The combined capacity of the sixth round of renewable energy projects is 4,500 MW.</p>
<p><strong>Scatec ASA </strong><a href="https://scatec.com/2025/03/13/scatec-signs-ppa-with-egypt-aluminium-for-major-solar-bess-project/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">signed</a> a 25-year power purchase agreement with <strong>Egypt Aluminium </strong>for a 1.1 GW solar and 100 MW/200 MWh battery energy storage system project in Egypt. Scatec owns 100% of the project but plans to bring in additional equity partners. The project, backed by a sovereign guarantee, targets decarbonizing Egypt Aluminum&#8217;s production.</p>
<p><strong>Bahrain&#8217;s Electricity and Water Authority </strong>(EWA) has <a href="https://www.bna.bh/en/news?cms=q8FmFJgiscL2fwIzON1%2BDqzsnC8V13KCQeNMQaQqTdc%3D" target="_blank" rel="noopener">installed</a> a solar energy system at the <strong>Khalifa City water distribution station</strong>, which is fully powered by renewable energy and able to export surplus electricity to the national grid. This initiative is part of EWA&#8217;s broader plan to integrate solar energy across multiple facilities, with Khalifa City being the eleventh to adopt such a system.</p>
<p>China&#8217;s <strong>Xinyi Glass</strong> is <a href="https://www.egypttoday.com/Article/3/139126/China%E2%80%99s-Xinyi-Glass-Invests-700M-in-SCZone-for-Solar-Panel" target="_blank" rel="noopener">investing</a> $700 million to establish a solar glass manufacturing facility in the <strong>Suez Canal Economic Zone</strong>. The project, planned to be executed in two phases, will produce 1.5 million tons of solar glass and 1.1 million tons of high-purity silica sand annually, with a significant portion of the output targeted for export.</p>
<p>Abu Dhabi&#8217;s <strong>Masdar </strong>will <a href="https://www.reuters.com/business/energy/uaes-masdar-talks-200-million-solar-power-deal-with-endesa-sources-say-2025-03-18/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">acquire</a> a 49.9% stake in a 450 MW solar portfolio controlled by Spanish power utility company <strong>Endesa </strong>for approximately $200 million. This deal would expand Masdar&#8217;s presence in Spain, a key market for its European growth strategy. Masdar, owned by TAQA, ADNOC, and Mubadala, previously partnered with Endesa last year to acquire a minority stake in a 2 GW solar portfolio.</p>
<p><strong>Siemens Gamesa</strong> <a href="https://renewablesnow.com/news/siemens-gamesa-signs-deal-for-500-mw-wind-project-in-egypt-1272565/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">signed</a> an agreement with the <strong>Egyptian Electricity Transmission Company </strong>to build a 500 MW wind farm in the Gulf of Suez region. The company will handle the project&#8217;s construction, financing, and operation. Siemens Gamesa has provided 1.5 GW of clean energy to Egypt.</p>


MENA Weekly Round-Up: Algeria Launches 3.2 GW Solar Projects

<p>Algeria’s Regulatory Commission for Electricity and Gas (CREG) has issued a tender for the construction, operation, and maintenance of several photovoltaic solar projects with a total capacity of 150 MW.</p>
<p>The solar projects will be spread over the southeast region of the country, each consisting of 10 MW. These projects will be developed under the Build-Own-Operate model and the power purchase agreement (PPA) will be signed for 20 years.</p>
<p>The last date for the submission of technical and financial bids is February 19, 2019. The bank guarantee for each project is fixed at 18 million Algerian Dinars (~$ 0.15 million).</p>
<p>According to the tender document, around 50 MW of project will be developed in the region of Ghardaïa, another 50 MW in the region of Biskra, 30 MW in the region of Ouargla, and the remaining 20 MW in the region of El Oued.</p>
<p>In the recent months, Northern Africa has seen a plethora of activities in the solar power market. Last Month, Mercom <a href="https://mercomindia.com/ifc-40-million-loan-tunisia-renewables/">reported that</a> the International Finance Corporation (<a href="http://www.ifc.org/wps/wcm/connect/corp_ext_content/ifc_external_corporate_site/home">IFC</a>), a member of the World Bank Group, said that it would provide a €40 million (~$46.2 million) subordinated loan to Attijari bank Tunisia, which is a private bank and part of the Attijariwafa Bank Group. This loan would help strengthen its capital base and grow its lending operations and increase its volume of long-term financing for climate-related projects and smaller businesses.</p>
<p>In May 2018, the <a href="http://www.onm.nat.tn/en/index.php">Ministry of Energy</a>, Mines and Renewable Energies of the Republic of Tunisia had tendered 70 MW of solar projects to be developed across the country. The capacity tendered has been divided into two batches. One batch consists of six 10 MW solar PV projects and the other comprises ten 1 MW solar PV projects.</p>
