Until now, the net metering option was available only for private tube wells and metered domestic consumers. The amendment is also expected to have positive implications for distribution companies, as the solar electricity generated under the net metering arrangement will contribute towards meeting the Renewable Purchase Obligation.</p>
<p><a href="https://www.mercomindia.com/cerc-approves-fatehgarh-transmission-project" target="_blank" rel="noopener"><strong>Central Electricity Regulatory Commission has approved an annual transmission charge of ₹248.67 million (~$2.98 million) as per the final offer by Apraava Energy to acquire Fatehgarh IV</strong></a> Transmission, a special-purpose vehicle. The SPV was originally formed by PFC Consulting to evacuate 20 GW of power from a Renewable Energy Zone under Phase III-Part A1 in Rajasthan. However, the Commission clarified that this is subject to granting a transmission license to Fatehgarh IV Transmission.</p>
<p><a href="https://www.mercomindia.com/adani-power-to-blend-mw-thermal-project" target="_blank" rel="noopener"><strong>Adani Power is executing a green ammonia combustion pilot project at its Mundra plant in Gujarat, which will co-fire up to 20% green ammonia in the boiler of a conventional coal-fired 330 MW unit.</strong></a> Produced from green hydrogen, green ammonia is manufactured through electrolysis using renewable energy and contains no carbon, which means there are no carbon emissions from its combustion. The pilot is being jointly delivered by Adani Power and partners IHI, a heavy industry company, and Kowa-Japan.</p>
<p><a href="https://www.mercomindia.com/china-230-gw-solar-and-wind-2023" target="_blank" rel="noopener"><strong>China is on track to install a record-breaking 230 GW of wind and solar capacity in 2023, more than twice as many installations as in the U.S. and Europe, research firm Wood Mackenzie has said in a</strong></a> report. The expected addition far exceeds the 160 GW renewables target China had set for itself for the year, up 13.5% from the actual installations in 2022. Wind and solar project investment for China is expected to reach $140 billion by 2023, according to the ‘How China Became the Global Renewables Leader’ report.</p>
<p><a href="https://www.mercomindia.com/japans-18th-solar-auction-yields-kwh" target="_blank" rel="noopener"><strong>The government of Japan has announced the results of the 18th utility-scale solar photovoltaic projects auction, allocating 105 MW to 33 successful bidders.</strong></a> The state-run Green Investment Promotion Organization declared that the auction attracted bids totaling 177.8 MW. The competition specifically sought proposals falling into two categories: those ranging from 250 kW to 500 kW and those exceeding 500 kW. The selected project sizes of the successful bids varied between 500 kW and 25.9 MW. The lowest bid in this auction reached ¥7.94 ($0.053)/kWh, while the highest bid was ¥9.19 (~$0.060)/kWh.</p>
