Voltalia, a renewable energy power producer, <a href="https://cms.mercomindia.com/voltalia-sells-solar-project-in-brazil-to-newave-energia/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">sold</a> its 420 MW solar project to Newave Energia, a partnership between Gerdau and Newave FIP in Brazil. Newave Energia will rely on Voltalia to construct and maintain electrical infrastructure. Newave Energia’s future photovoltaic power plants will avoid the emission of approximately 350 kilotons of CO2 annually. The project sold is a part of the larger Arinos cluster. The cluster has a total potential capacity of over 1.8 GW, and Voltalia will be responsible for developing the entire cluster, including this sold project.
ABO Wind, a renewable energy project developer, has <a href="https://cms.mercomindia.com/abo-wind-sells-solar-project-in-south-africa/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">sold</a> a 100 MW solar project in South Africa to an undisclosed acquirer. The project is the third photovoltaic facility within a cluster comprising a total of 300 MW. The project is located on 450 hectares of privately owned land in the North-West Province of South Africa. The other 200 MW had already been sold by ABO Wind in 2022.
OCP Group, a phosphate-based fertilizer producer, <a href="https://cms.mercomindia.com/ocp-secures-green-loan-for-400-mw-of-solar-projects/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">announced</a> that it has entered into an agreement under which IFC will provide OCP with a €100 million (~$105.54 million) green loan for the construction of two solar projects totaling 400 MW and up to 100 MWh of battery storage, making this the first large scale solar photovoltaic project with integrated storage infrastructure in Morocco – and the largest in North Africa. IFC’s green loan agreement with OCP is part of its strategy to increase climate-related investments and projects in emerging markets, decarbonize economies, and adapt to a warming planet.
OX2, a Sweden-based renewable energy company that develops, funds, and manages large-scale projects, signed an agreement to <a href="https://cms.mercomindia.com/ox2-sells-23-mw-agripv-project-in-france/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">sell</a> a 23 MW AgriPV project located in the Loiret region, France, to CVE, a France-based independent renewable energy power producer. CVE will carry out the construction of the solar project, and the commissioning is expected to be during the first quarter of 2026. The project is OX2’s first in AgriPV, where solar panels are combined with agriculture, farming, or livestock.

<a href="https://www.abo-wind.com/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">ABO Wind</a>, a renewable energy project developer, has sold a 100 MW solar project in South Africa to an undisclosed acquirer. The project is the third photovoltaic facility within a cluster comprising a total of 300 MW. The project is located on 450 hectares of privately owned land in the North-West Province of South Africa. The other 200 megawatts had already been sold by ABO Wind in 2022.
Through the ABO Wind team, the project obtained the necessary permits and consents to be ready to build. The investor concluded a private power purchase agreement with an off-taker for the produced electricity.
&#8220;We started working on this project when we first entered the South African market in 2018,&#8221; says Rob Invernizzi, General Manager of the South African subsidiary of ABO Wind. &#8220;Our development team has done an excellent job in fully developing the project, and the finance and sales team has set a sound financial basis and ensured a smooth sale.&#8221;
In South Africa, ABO Wind&#8217;s business model is to develop large wind, solar, battery storage, and hybrid projects and potential sites for green hydrogen production. According to Mercom&#8217;s recently released 9M and Q3 2023 Solar Funding and M&amp;A <a href="https://cms.mercomindia.com/product/9m-q3-2023-solar-funding-ma-report/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Report</a>, in the first nine months (9M) of 2023, there were a total of 166 project acquisitions for 31.6 GW compared to 207 projects acquired for 52.1 GW in 9M 2022.
Capital Dynamics, a private asset management firm, recently <a href="https://cms.mercomindia.com/capital-dynamics-acquires-solar-projects-italy/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">acquired</a> 170 MW of construction-ready solar photovoltaic projects located in Sicily, Italy, from a global energy service provider. The projects will be supported by long-term power purchase agreements.

ABO Wind Sells 100 MW Solar Project in South Africa

<a href="https://www.abo-wind.com/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">ABO Wind</a>, a Wiesbaden-based project developer, reached an agreement with Repsol Renovables for the sale of five renewable energy projects totaling 250 MW. The projects comprise three wind farms totaling 150 MW and two solar projects with a capacity of 100 MW. They are located in the province of Palencia in Northern Spain and will share interconnection infrastructures with other Repsol projects.
The financial terms of the transaction were not disclosed. The acquired projects are in an advanced stage of development and are scheduled to go into operation between 2024 and 2025.
With this latest acquisition, Repsol&#8217;s total portfolio in Spain, including operational, under-construction, and near-completed capacity, will increase to 3,200 MW.
As for ABO Wind, the company says it has 1,100 MW of wind and solar PV projects currently in the works in Spain. In recent years, ABO Wind has strengthened activities in Castilla y Léon. In addition to the five projects, the company is developing further ones in the region. Another wind farm developed by ABO Wind between 2019-2022 is currently under construction in the province of Valladolid.
According to Mercom Annual and Q4 2022 Solar Funding and M&amp;A <a href="https://cms.mercomindia.com/product/annual-q4-2022-solar-funding-ma-report/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">report</a>, 268 large-scale solar project acquisitions were recorded in 2022 compared to 280 in 2021. In 2022, about 66 GW of solar projects were acquired, with project developers picking up the most, reaching 35.7 GW.
In September 2022, ABO Wind <a href="https://cms.mercomindia.com/abo-wind-sells-solar-projects-south-africa/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">sold</a> 200 MW of solar projects to the South African SOLA Group, an independent power producer in South Africa. The South African SOLA Group has already concluded a private Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) for the projects with the mine operator Tronox. These are Africa’s most significant renewable energy projects financed through a corporate PPA. Most renewable energy projects in South Africa receive a government-subsidized tariff awarded through tenders. The project’s construction is yet to begin, and the projects are expected to be operational by 2023.
