Sunergise, a solar energy company specializing in commercial solar installations, project development, financing, and operations and maintenance services in New Zealand and the Pacific, has signed an agreement to acquire Infratec New Zealand Limited from WEL Networks to expand its solar and battery storage business in New Zealand and the Pacific.

The acquisition will combine Sunergise’s commercial solar operations with Infratec’s utility-scale solar and battery storage capabilities. The combined business will provide project development, engineering, financing, and operations and maintenance services to commercial, industrial, and utility-scale customers.

The transaction will also expand Sunergise’s presence in the Pacific, where it operates through Fiji-based Clay Energy. Sunergise acquired Clay Energy from Todd’s Pacific solar operations in early 2026.

“New Zealand’s and the Pacific’s renewable energy transition requires investment at every scale: commercial rooftops and large-scale generation,” says Paul Makumbe, our CEO. “Together we can meet that demand. Our offerings are fully complementary, and we now have the skills, experience and capacity to deliver the full spectrum of services to help expedite that much-needed transition.”

Sunergise and Infratec have previously collaborated on renewable energy projects in the Pacific. Since 2020, the companies have jointly delivered five renewable energy plants across Nauru, the Federated States of Micronesia, the Marshall Islands, and Palau.

According to Sunergise, the collaboration included New Zealand’s first renewable energy project in Micronesia.

WEL Networks is selling Infratec to focus on its core electricity network and infrastructure business. Sunergise said existing contracts, client relationships, and service commitments across both businesses would continue uninterrupted.

In 9M 2026, 205 project acquisitions totaling 34.4 GW were recorded compared to 166 project acquisitions totaling 29 GW in 9M 2025, as per Mercom’s recently released 9M and Q3 2026 Solar Funding and M&A Report.

In September, Qualitas Energy, an investment firm specializing in renewable energy, energy transition, and sustainable infrastructure, signed a definitive agreement to acquire Cero Generation’s core European platform from Macquarie Group, comprising a 5.8 GW portfolio of solar photovoltaic and battery energy storage projects across the U.K., Italy, and Spain.
