In an interview on the sidelines of the Mercom India Renewables Summit 2026, held in New Delhi on July 1 and 2, Kayan Kalthia, Director at Kosol Energy, said only around 20% to 25% of solar cell production is currently available to independent module manufacturers. He expects the next six to seven months to remain challenging before upcoming cell manufacturing capacity helps stabilize supply. Responding to concerns about the large volume of announced module capacity, Kalthia said manufacturers may find it difficult to sell the additional output in export markets because of competition from China and Southeast Asia. He expects public utility projects to account for the largest energy storage deployment volumes, while commercial and industrial projects could offer higher internal rates of return.
